Download or read book Aerospace Actuators 2 written by Jean-Charles Maré and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-03-13 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the second in a series of volumes which cover the topic of aerospace actuators following a systems-based approach. This second volume brings an original, functional and architectural vision to more electric aerospace actuators. The aspects of signal (Signal-by-Wire) and power (Power-by-Wire) are treated from the point of view of needs, their evolution throughout history, and operational solutions that are in service or in development. This volume is based on an extensive bibliography, numerous supporting examples and orders of magnitude which refer to flight controls and landing gear for various aircraft (fixed or rotorwing, launchers) in commercial, private and military applications. The topics covered in this set of books constitute a significant source of information for individuals and engineers from a variety of disciplines, seeking to learn more about aerospace actuation systems and components.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The object of this book is to provide a comprehensive reference source for the numerous scientific communities (engineers, researchers, students, etc.) in various disciplines which require detailed information in the field of dielectric materials. Part 1 focuses on physical properties, electrical ageing, and modeling - including topics such as the physics of charged dielectric materials, conduction mechanisms, dielectric relaxation, space charge, electric ageing and end of life (EOL) models, and dielectric experimental characterization. Part 2 examines applications of specific relevance to dielectric materials: insulating oils for transformers, electro-rheological fluids, electrolytic capacitors, ionic membranes, photovoltaic conversion, dielectric thermal control coatings for geostationary satellites, plastics recycling and piezoelectric polymers.

Book Synopsis The Lightning Rod as a Danger by : Jan Meppelink
Download or read book The Lightning Rod as a Danger written by Jan Meppelink and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-07-15 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the physical effects of a lightning flash on a person near the down conductor of a lightning protection system. These effects are the touch voltage, the step voltage and the side flash. For this purpose, a full-scale simulation model of the human body with a resistance of 1000 ohms was first created. In the simulation model, the body can touch the down conductor or be placed close to it. Furthermore, the specific resistance of the earth is varied. Likewise, insulating layers such as asphalt can be incorporated into the simulation model. Also, special cases like water permeable layers or water layers on an asphalt layer can be calculated. In post-processing, all relevant values can be determined, such as the energy converted in the body, the charge, the current and the voltage applied to the body. A comparison with the permissible limit values then shows for the lightning protection classes whether there is danger or not and provides information on necessary measures. There is a risk for death and injury if the down conductor is touched. However, there is also a risk of a side flash if a person is standing next to a discharge. Site isolation with dry asphalt is effective, but there is a residual risk of surface discharges. In real situations with wet asphalt, water-permeable layers or asphalt with a water layer, however, there is a great risk of death or injury. Equipotential bonding with an earthing grid is a necessary but not sufficient solution with regard to the induced voltage at negative subsequent stroke. Therefore, the situation must always be examined on a case-by-case basis with regard to the safety requirements. The only effective measure to prevent injury and death due to touch voltage is an insulating down conductor in conjunction with equipotential bonding. The measures for reducing the touch voltage, such as site insulation and equipotential bonding, basically also apply to limiting the step voltage. A risk calculation according to IEC 62305-2 gives the mean time between two events of injury and death MG = 1/RA. The tolerable risk is: RA = 0,0001 or MT = 10.000 years, equivalent to one death in 10.000 years.

Book Synopsis Gaseous Dielectrics by : Loucas G. Christophorou
Download or read book Gaseous Dielectrics written by Loucas G. Christophorou and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-11 with total page 702 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gaseous Dielectrics V presents the proceedings of the Fifth International Symposium on Gaseous Dielectrics, held in Knoxville, Tennessee on May 3–7, 1987. This book discusses the effective coupling between basic and applied research and technology achieved in this area. Organized into 12 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the status of theoretical calculations of excitation and ionization coefficients for electrons. This text then provides an extensive investigation into different phases of discharge development in electronegative gases. Other chapters consider the use of sulfur hexafluoride as a dielectric medium in rail systems and gas circuit breakers. This book reviews as well the primary requirements for a successful gas analysis program, with emphasis on measurement and interpretation methods. The final chapter deals with the progress in dielectric quality assurance of gas insulated substations (GIS), which has resulted from improved scientific knowledge of significant phenomena. This book is a valuable resource for electrical and electronics engineers.
