Download or read book Microhydrodynamics written by Sangtae Kim and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2013-04-26 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book is well organized and comprehensive . . . an eloquent and enduring statement of significant hydrodynamic principles." — AIChE Journal Microhydrodynamics concerns the flow and related phenomena pertinent to the motion of small particles suspended in viscous fluids. This text focuses on determining the motion of a particle or particles through a viscous fluid in bounded and unbounded flow. Its central theme is the mobility relation between particle motion and forces. Microhydrodynamics: Principles and Selected Applications functions as a manual that explains methods for solving particulate flows at low-Reynolds number, from analytical to computational methods. The ever-increasing growth in computational power has resulted in a similar growth in the range of solvable problems in microhydrodynamics. Suitable for graduate students in engineering and applied mathematics, this text treats the mathematical foundations and highlights the interplay of both mathematical and physical insights, guiding readers through single particle theory and problems related to multiparticle analyses.

Book Synopsis Capillary Flows in Heterogeneous and Random Porous Media by : Rachid Ababou
Download or read book Capillary Flows in Heterogeneous and Random Porous Media written by Rachid Ababou and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2019-02-06 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capillary phenomena occur in both natural and human-made systems, from equilibria in the presence of solids (grains, walls, metal wires) to multiphase flows in heterogeneous and fractured porous media. This book, composed of two volumes, develops fluid mechanics approaches for two immiscible fluids (water/air or water/oil) in the presence of solids (tubes, joints, grains, porous media). Their hydrodynamics are typically dominated by capillarity and viscous dissipation. This first volume presents the basic concepts and investigates two-phase equilibria, before analyzing two-phase hydrodynamics in discrete and/or statistical systems (tubular pores, planar joints). It then studies flows in heterogeneous and stratified porous media, such as soils and rocks, based on Darcy’s law. This analysis includes unsaturated flow (Richards equation) and two-phase flow (Muskat equations). Overall, the two volumes contain basic physical concepts, theoretical analyses, field investigations and statistical and numerical approaches to capillary-driven equilibria and flows in heterogeneous systems

Book Synopsis A Course in Grammar and Composition : Intermediate by : Geetha Nagaraj
Download or read book A Course in Grammar and Composition : Intermediate written by Geetha Nagaraj and published by Foundation Books. This book was released on 2006-03-06 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This coursebook has been prepared for students at the intermediate level. The first part of the course deals with grammar and the second part deals with composition. The course in grammar aims to - familiarise learners with the rules of grammar and usage, and - give practice in using the grammatical structures acuurately and appropriately. The course in composition aims to develop learners' ability to write cohesively and coherently using appropriate vocabulary on familiar topics. Minimal teacher guidance will be required to do the tasks. Some of the key features of the book: - Simple and clear explanations: Grammatical explanations are made in simple language with minimal use of jargon. - Focus on form and function: Each topic is dealt with in two parts. The first focuses on the form of the staructure and the second on its function. Extensive practice: The practice section is divided into two. The first part aims to give learners a firm grounding in the form of the structure and the second part aims to enable the learners to use the structure in situations. - Writing for academic purposes: The composition section deals with writing skills that are useful for studying all subjects through English. - Writing for life: The composition section also aims to develop learners' skills for using English for written communication in everyday life.

Book Synopsis Theory of Structures (Penerbit USM) by : Taksiah A. Majid
Download or read book Theory of Structures (Penerbit USM) written by Taksiah A. Majid and published by Penerbit USM. This book was released on 2014-11-25 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims at providing students of civil engineering with basic skill of structural analysis to determine internal forces as well as deflection of statically determinate planar structures. It covers major structural types of trusses, beams, and frames. Three-pinned arches and cables are also covered to complete the coverage of statically determinate structures. As for deflection of structures, the use of moment-area method and conjugate beam method are covered. The effect of moving load on structures under the topic of influence line is also included. The emphasis of the book is on development of students’ ability to formulate procedures needed to solve statically determinate problem. Importance of using appropriate free body diagrams to assist in the process of analysis is emphasized through the use of diagrams in the examples given in the book. The students are expected to be able to develop proficiency of solving for internal forces and deflections through the worked examples given in the book. Apart from quantitative analysis, an important skill of qualitative analysis through sketching of qualitative deflected shape based on bending moment diagram is also covered.
Book Synopsis Theory of Linear Poroelasticity with Applications to Geomechanics and Hydrogeology by : Herbert Wang
Download or read book Theory of Linear Poroelasticity with Applications to Geomechanics and Hydrogeology written by Herbert Wang and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2000-12-03 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of linear poroelasticity describes the interaction between mechanical effects and adding or removing fluid from rock. It is critical to the study of such geological phenomena as earthquakes and landslides and is important for numerous engineering projects, including dams, groundwater withdrawal, and petroleum extraction. Now an advanced text synthesizes in one place, with one notation, numerous classical solutions and applications of this highly useful theory. The introductory chapter recounts parallel developments in geomechanics, hydrogeology, and reservoir engineering that are unified by the tenets of poroelasticity. Next, the theory's constitutive and governing equations and their associated material parameters are described. These equations are then specialized for different simplifying geometries: unbounded problem domains, uniaxial strain, plane strain, radial symmetry, and axisymmetry. Example problems from geomechanics, hydrogeology, and petroleum engineering are incorporated throughout to illustrate poroelastic behavior and solution methods for a wide variety of real-world scenarios. The final chapter provides outlines for finite-element and boundary-element formulations of the field's governing equations. Whether read as a course of study or consulted as a reference by researchers and professionals, this volume's user-friendly presentation makes accessible one of geophysics' most important subjects and will do much to reduce poroelasticity's reputation as difficult to master.
