This book was released on 1993 with total page 143 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An intensive investigation was conducted to evaluate membrane performance and effectiveness. The main objectives of this study were to: develop a nondestructive test method for evaluating the integrity of membranes in place; investigate the effectiveness of membranes, relative to chloride barrier properties, as a function of membrane integrity; and evaluate the factors that may affect membrane performance, including membrane type and age, climate, and deicer application rate. A nondestructive methodology using ultrasonic pulse velocity was developed to predict the membrane status. It was found that preformed membrane systems reduce chloride intrusion, when properly installed and overlaid with at least 2.5-in. hot-mix asphalt, which should be kept in a good service condition.

This book was released on 2012-06-01 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third edition of the Structural Concrete Textbook is an extensive revision that reflects advances in knowledge and technology over the past decade. It was prepared in the intermediate period from the CEP-FIP Model Code 1990 (MC90) tofib Model Code for Concrete Structures 2010 (MC2010), and as such incorporates a significant amount of information that has been already finalized for MC2010, while keeping some material from MC90 that was not yet modified considerably. The objective of the textbook is to give detailed information on a wide range of concrete engineering from selection of appropriate structural system and also materials, through design and execution and finally behaviour in use. The revised fib Structural Concrete Textbook covers the following main topics: phases of design process, conceptual design, short and long term properties of conventional concrete (including creep, shrinkage, fatigue and temperature influences), special types of concretes (such as self compacting concrete, architectural concrete, fibre reinforced concrete, high and ultra high performance concrete), properties of reinforcing and prestressing materials, bond, tension stiffening, moment-curvature, confining effect, dowel action, aggregate interlock; structural analysis (with or without time dependent effects), definition of limit states, control of cracking and deformations, design for moment, shear or torsion, buckling, fatigue, anchorages, splices, detailing; design for durability (including service life design aspects, deterioration mechanisms, modelling of deterioration mechanisms, environmental influences, influences of design and execution on durability); fire design (including changes in material and structural properties, spalling, degree of deterioration), member design (linear members and slabs with reinforcement layout, deep beams); management, assessment, maintenance, repair (including, conservation strategies, risk management, types of interventions) as well as aspects of execution (quality assurance), formwork and curing. The updated textbook provides the basics of material and structural behaviour and the fundamental knowledge needed for the design, assessment or retrofitting of concrete structures. It will be essential reading material for graduate students in the field of structural concrete, and also assist designers and consultants in understanding the background to the rules they apply in their practice. Furthermore, it should prove particularly valuable to users of the new editions of Eurocode 2 for concrete buildings, bridges and container structures, which are based only partly on MC90 and partly on more recent knowledge which was not included in the 1999 edition of the textbook.

Download or read book Performance Evaluation of Various Corrosion Protection Systems of Bridges in Colorado written by Yunping Xi and published by . This book was released on 2004 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion of reinforced concrete structures has been a significant problem for many state and transportation agencies since the application of deicing salts was introduced. Much research has been conducted to develop corrosion protection systems that can prolong the life span of reinforced concrete structures. The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has several routine and experimental measures to prevent corrosion of the rebar including epoxy-coated rebar, calcium nitrite admixture, organic corrosion inhibitors, a thick cover of quality concrete, and a waterproofing membrane covered by an asphalt overlay. An extensive literature review was performed to collect information on various corrosion protection systems that have been used in the U.S. and around the world. Current CDOT practices in terms of corrosion protection measures were reviewed. A draft inspection plan for Colorado's bridge structures was proposed.

Book excerpt: This volume reviews and summarizes the existing methods and equipment for evaluating the condition of concrete bridge components. It discusses methods for detection of damage resulting from corrosion of steel in concrete, poor quality or deteriorated concrete, and damages to prestressed/posttensioned tendons embedded in concrete. The discussion of each method includes any experiences with the method/procedure as reported in available literature sources and in interviews with state and provincial department of transportation inspection and maintenance personnel.
Book Synopsis Condition Evaluation of Concrete Bridges Relative to Reinforcement Corrosion by : Philip Dale Cady
Download or read book Condition Evaluation of Concrete Bridges Relative to Reinforcement Corrosion written by Philip Dale Cady and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A procedure is presented for the condition assessment of concrete bridge components. It is based on a rational integration of 13 applicable, current test methods or procedures with 7 newly developed methods. The selection of the current methods is detailed in Volume 1 of this report, and the developement of the 7 new procedures is presentted in Volumes 2 through 7. While The primary emphasis is on deterioration associated with chloride-induced corrosion of reinforcing steel, all aspects of durability relative to concrete bridge components are addressed. The procedure is designed to be flexible and amenable to tailoring to suit the needs of the individual highway agency.
