Book Synopsis Theoretical and Observational Problems Related to Solar Eclipses by : Z. Mouradian

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The NATO ARW on the problems of ground-based observations of Solar Eclipses was held in Sinaia (Romania) between 1 and 5 June 1996. The Workshop was divided into seven sessions, in which 17 papers were given, by key speakers, along with 30 oral presentations. Additionally, 30 posters were presented. This issue contains only the invited and oral papers. The posters are to be published in a special issue of the Romanian Astronomical Journal. The contributions were based on our present knowledge of solar corona physics and on the perspectives for future total eclipse observations, focussing especially on that of August 11, 1999, which will be the last eclipse of the century. The workshop sessions reviewed the results of past eclipse observations, coronal hot and cold structures, coronal heating, public education, and instrumental problems. At the end of the meeting a fruitful general discussion drew out problems to be studied and techniques to be used for forthcoming observations. Posters completed the workshop contributions.

Download or read book The Solar Corona written by John W. Evans and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Solar Corona covers the proceedings of the International Astronomical Union Symposium No. 16 held at Cloudcroft, New Mexico, U.S.A. on August 28-30, 1961. The book focuses on the characteristics, reactions, and analysis of the solar corona. The selection first offers information on the local physics of the corona and comments on coronal heating. Discussions focus on density, temperature, energy balance, excitation and ionization, and electrostatic ejection of light ions. The text then takes a look at the temperature of the solar corona and relative populations of Fe in the corona. The publication tackles excitation of the red and green coronal lines; filamentary structure of the solar corona; prediction of solar emission lines in the short-wave region of the spectrum; and prominences of the solar corona. The text then examines the study of the corona by radar, rockets, and satellites; slow variations of the solar corona; and influence of flares on the associated permanent coronal condensation. The selection is a vital source of data for scientists and readers interested in the solar corona.
Book Synopsis A Guide to the Solar Corona by : Donald E. Billings
Download or read book A Guide to the Solar Corona written by Donald E. Billings and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Guide to the Solar Corona is specifically directed to the space scientist or engineer who is not a specialist in solar physics, but whose work requires a fairly detailed knowledge of the corona. It is hoped that the material may prove useful to most graduate students in astrophysics, while solar physicists may find some topics of interest and value to them. The book contains 12 chapters and begins with three descriptive chapters that provide the casual reader with a concept of the corona as it is evident through more or less direct observation. Topics covered include the development of coronal science, observational techniques, and observational aspects of the corona. The next chapter discusses methods of analyzing coronal data. Subsequent chapters present theoretical considerations as they are applicable to the corona. These combine theory with observation to provide a description of the various aspects of the corona. The final chapter is a combination of established ideas and speculation on the place of the corona in the universe.

Book Synopsis Basics of the Solar Wind by : Nicole Meyer-Vernet
Download or read book Basics of the Solar Wind written by Nicole Meyer-Vernet and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-01-18 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sun continually ejects matter into space, blowing a huge bubble of supersonic plasma. This solar wind bathes the whole solar system and shapes all planetary environments. The growth of space technology has considerably increased our knowledge of this medium. This 2007 book presents an introduction to the subject, starting with basic principles and including all the latest advances from space exploration and theory. It contains a short introduction to plasma physics and discusses the structure of the solar interior and atmosphere, the production of solar wind and its perturbations. It explains the objects of the Solar System, from dust to comets and planets, and their interaction with the solar wind. The final sections explore the astrophysical point of view. The topics are treated at various levels of difficulty both qualitatively and quantitatively. This book will appeal to graduate students and researchers in earth and atmospheric sciences, and astrophysics.
