Book Synopsis Frequency Independent Antennas by : Victor H. Rumsey
Download or read book Frequency Independent Antennas written by Victor H. Rumsey and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frequency Independent Antennas provides a reasonably complete coverage of frequency independent antennas from its inception until the middle of 1965. Most of the contents have not previously been published, except in scattered journal articles, and some are original. The first six chapters are written at a fairly easy level—about the level of a beginning graduate student or the more advanced undergraduate. The last two chapters, which deal with solutions of Maxwell's equations, are at a somewhat higher level. The book opens with a discussion of some fundamental ideas about antennas. It shows how typical measurements can be understood in terms of classical electromagnetic theory: in other words, how to make sense of measured data, how to set up apparatus to get meaningful data, and how to test their significance. Separate chapters follow on the features of frequency independent, plane-sheet, spiral, and log-periodic antennas. Subsequent chapters discuss how the periodic structure theory provides a way of understanding the peculiarities of frequency independent antennas; and solutions of Maxwell's equations for idealized spiral and idealized sinusoidal structures.

Book Synopsis Self-Complementary Antennas by : Yasuto Mushiake
Download or read book Self-Complementary Antennas written by Yasuto Mushiake and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An antenna with a self-complementary structure has a constant input impedance, independent of the source frequency and of the shape of the structure. The principle for this property of constant impedance was discovered by Professor Mushiake himself. This is the first study which comprehensively describes the principles of self-complementarity in antennas. It explains the theory which was the basis of the development of this principle and presents various engineering applications with an emphasis on extremely broadband self-complementary antennas. Self-Complementary Antennas will be of particular interest to antenna engineers working with extremely large bandwidths and more generally to electrical engineers with an interest in the development of the field since 1948.

Book Synopsis The Taming of Fate by : Macamo, Elisio S.
Download or read book The Taming of Fate written by Macamo, Elisio S. and published by CODESRIA. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about how extreme situations appearing to have a destructive potential can actually be used to produce meaningful individual and social lives. It is about the “taming of fate”. This notion means and accounts for the ability of individuals and communities to rebuild their lives against all odds. The book is based on case-studies that draw from theoretical insights derived from the sociology of disasters. It addresses some limitations of the sociology of risk, chief among which is the rejection of the relevance of the notion of risk to the study of technologically non-advanced societies. The book argues that this rejection has deprived the study of the human condition of an important analytical asset. The book claims that risk is a property of social action which can best be understood through the analytical scrutiny of its role in the historical constitution of social relations.
