Book excerpt: CETTE ETUDE PORTE SUR LA CONCEPTION D'UN CONVERTISSEUR NUMERIQUE-ANALOGIQUE 12 BITS - 100 MHZ EN TECHNOLOGIE CMOS OU BICMOS SANS AJUSTEMENT DE COMPOSANTS. LES STRUCTURES CLASSIQUES BASEES SUR LA COMMUTATION DE SOURCES A L'AIDE D'UN DECODEUR THERMOMETRE OCCUPENT UNE SURFACE IMPORTANTE QUI LIMITE LA VITESSE DE CONVERSION. NOUS PROPOSONS UNE SOLUTION BASEE SUR LE MULTIPLEXAGE TEMPOREL DE DEUX CONVERTISSEURS DITS ELEMENTAIRES: CEUX-CI TRAVAILLENT A TOUR DE ROLE EN ASSOCIATION AVEC UN MULTIPLEXEUR QUI COMMUTE LEURS COURANTS VERS LA SORTIE (STRUCTURE SANS GLITCHS). CHAQUE CONVERTISSEUR ELEMENTAIRE TRAVAILLE A UNE VITESSE DEUX FOIS PLUS FAIBLE (50 MHZ) ET N'UTILISE PAS DE DECODEUR THERMOMETRE. LES ERREURS DE LINEARITE ET L'APPARIEMENT DES CNA ELEMENTAIRES ONT ETE EXPRIMES ANALYTIQUEMENT, VERIFIES PAR DES SIMULATIONS DE MONTE-CARLO. LES SOURCES DE COURANT ONT ETE REALISEES A L'AIDE DE MIROIRS DE COURANT DYNAMIQUES SELON UN NOUVEAU PRINCIPE DE COMPENSATION DES CHARGES QUI PERMET D'ATTEINDRE UNE PRECISION DE 600 PPM A 125C AVEC DES CAPACITES DE 0,5 PF. LE MULTIPLEXEUR SIMULE EN TECHNOLOGIE BICMOS PRESENTE UNE PRECISION ET UNE VITESSE SUFFISANTES POUR UN CONVERTISEUR 12 BITS - 100 MHZ AVEC UNE BANDE PASSANTE SUPERIEURE A 50 MHZ

Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 28 (thesis year 1 983) a total of 10,661 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 197 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 28 reports theses submitted in-1983, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book excerpt: Suitable for both individual and group learning, Engineering Acoustics focuses on basic concepts and methods to make our environments quieter, both in buildings and in the open air. The author’s tutorial style derives from the conviction that understanding is enhanced when the necessity behind the particular teaching approach is made clear. He also combines mathematical derivations and formulas with extensive explanations and examples to deepen comprehension. Fundamental chapters on the physics and perception of sound precede those on noise reduction (elastic isolation) methods. The last chapter deals with microphones and loudspeakers. Moeser includes major discoveries by Lothar Cremer, including the optimum impedance for mufflers and the coincidence effect behind structural acoustic transmission. The appendix gives a short introduction on the use of complex amplitudes in acoustics.
