Book excerpt: The major progress in computer vision allows us to make extensive use of medical imaging data to provide us better diagnosis, treatment and predication of diseases. Computer vision can exploit texture, shape, contour and prior knowledge along with contextual information from image sequence and provide 3D and 4D information that helps with better human understanding. Many powerful tools have been available through image segmentation, machine learning, pattern classification, tracking, reconstruction to bring much needed quantitative information not easily available by trained human specialists. The aim of the book is for both medical imaging professionals to acquire and interpret the data, and computer vision professionals to provide enhanced medical information by using computer vision techniques. The final objective is to benefit the patients without adding to the already high medical costs.

Book excerpt: This book proposes various deep learning models featuring how deep learning algorithms have been applied and used in real-life settings. The complexity of real-world scenarios and constraints imposed by the environment, together with budgetary and resource limitations, have posed great challenges to engineers and developers alike, to come up with solutions to meet these demands. This book presents case studies undertaken by its contributors to overcome these problems. These studies can be used as references for designers when applying deep learning in solving real-world problems in the areas of vision, signals, and networks. The contents of this book are divided into three parts. In the first part, AI vision applications in plant disease diagnostics, PM2.5 concentration estimation, surface defect detection, and ship plate identification, are featured. The second part introduces deep learning applications in signal processing; such as time series classification, broad-learning based signal modulation recognition, and graph neural network (GNN) based modulation recognition. Finally, the last section of the book reports on graph embedding applications and GNN in AI for networks; such as an end-to-end graph embedding method for dispute detection, an autonomous System-GNN architecture to infer the relationship between Apache software, a Ponzi scheme detection framework to identify and detect Ponzi schemes, and a GNN application to predict molecular biological activities.

Book excerpt: DEFECT PROPORTION OF DETECTION INITIAL RATE DETECTION RATE INSPECTOR 3 COMPLEXITY OF TIMES PAN OF PERFORMING o~ ________________________ o~ ______________________ __ -;. INSPECTION TASK -;. VISUAL INSPECTION Fagure 1. Trends in relations between the complexity of inspection tasks, defect detection rates (absolute and relative), and inspection time. Irrespective of the necessities described above, and with the excep tion of specific generic application systems (e.g., bare-board PCB inspection, wafer inspection, solder joint inspection, linewidth measure ment), vision systems are still not found frequently in today's electronics factories. Besides cost, some major reasons for this absence are: 1. The detection robustness or accuracy is still insufficient. 2. The total inspection time is often too high, although this can frequently be attributed to mechanical handling or sensing. 3. There are persistent gaps among process engineers, CAD en gineers, manufacturing engineers, test specialists, and computer vision specialists, as problems dominate the day-to-day interac tions and prevent the establishment of trust. 4. Computer vision specialists sometimes still believe that their contributions are universal, so that adaptation to each real problem becomes tedious, or stumbles over the insufficient availabIlity of multidisciplinary expertise. Whether we like it or not, we must still use appropriate sensors, lighting, and combina tions of algorithms for each class of applications; likewise, we cannot design mechanical handling, illumination, and sensing in isolation from each other.
