Download or read book Electron Microscopy of Interfaces in Metals and Alloys written by L.M Clarebrough and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-09-01 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electron Microscopy of Interfaces in Metals and Alloys examines the structure of interfaces in metals and alloys using transmission electron microscopy. The book presents quantitative methods of analysis and reviews the most significant work on interface structure over the last 20 years. It provides the first book description of the methods used for quantitative identification of Burgers vectors of interfacial dislocations, including the geometric analysis of periodicities in interface structure and the comparison of experimental and theoretical electron micrographs. The book explores low- and high-angle grain boundaries and interphase interfaces between neighboring grains, emphasizing interfacial dislocations and rigid-body displacements to the structure and properties of interfaces. It also analyzes the use of two-beam images and diffraction patterns for analysis and studies n-beam lattice imaging. The book includes numerous worked examples of the analysis of the structure of grain boundaries and interphase interfaces, which are particularly useful to those who need to consider the nature of intercrystalline interfaces.

Book Synopsis C,H,N and O in Si and Characterization and Simulation of Materials and Processes by : A. Borghesi
Download or read book C,H,N and O in Si and Characterization and Simulation of Materials and Processes written by A. Borghesi and published by North Holland. This book was released on 1996 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Containing over 200 papers, this volume contains the proceedings of two symposia in the E-MRS series. Part I presents a state of the art review of the topic - Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen and Oxygen in Silicon and in Other Elemental Semiconductors. There was strong representation from the industrial laboratories, illustrating that the topic is highly relevant for the semiconductor industry. The second part of the volume deals with a topic which is undergoing a process of convergence with two concerns that are more particularly application oriented. Firstly, the advanced instrumentation which, through the use of atomic force and tunnel microscopies, high resolution electron microscopy and other high precision analysis instruments, now allows for direct access to atomic mechanisms. Secondly, the technological development which in all areas of applications, particularly in the field of microelectronics and microsystems, requires as a result of the miniaturisation race, a precise mastery of the microscopic mechanisms.

Book Synopsis Advanced Computing in Electron Microscopy by : Earl J. Kirkland
Download or read book Advanced Computing in Electron Microscopy written by Earl J. Kirkland and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-09 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This updated and revised edition of a classic work provides a summary of methods for numerical computation of high resolution conventional and scanning transmission electron microscope images. At the limits of resolution, image artifacts due to the instrument and the specimen interaction can complicate image interpretation. Image calculations can help the user to interpret and understand high resolution information in recorded electron micrographs. The book contains expanded sections on aberration correction, including a detailed discussion of higher order (multipole) aberrations and their effect on high resolution imaging, new imaging modes such as ABF (annular bright field), and the latest developments in parallel processing using GPUs (graphic processing units), as well as updated references. Beginning and experienced users at the advanced undergraduate or graduate level will find the book to be a unique and essential guide to the theory and methods of computation in electron microscopy.
Download or read book Crystal Growth written by A.W. Vere and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the second in a series of scientific textbooks designed to cover advances in selected research fields from a basic and general viewpoint, so that only limited knowledge is required to understand the significance of recent developments. Further assistance for the non-specialist is provided by the summary of abstracts in Part 2, which includes many of the major papers published in the research field. Crystal Growth of Semiconductor Materials has been the subject of numerous books and reviews and the fundamental principles are now well-established. We are concerned chiefly with the deposition of atoms onto a suitable surface - crystal growth - and the generation of faults in the atomic structure during growth and subsequent cooling to room temperature - crystal defect structure. In this book I have attempted to show that whilst the fundamentals of these processes are relatively simple, the complexities of the interactions involved and the individuality of different materials systems and growth processes have ensured that experimentally verifiable predictions from scientific principles have met with only limited success - good crystal growth remains an art. However, recent advances, which include the reduction of growth temperatures, the reduction or elimination of reactant transport variables and the use of better-controlled energy sources to promote specific reactions, are leading to simplified growth systems.

Book Synopsis Surface Mobilities on Solid Materials by : Vu Thien Binh
Download or read book Surface Mobilities on Solid Materials written by Vu Thien Binh and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 589 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The surface of solids had long been considered simply the external boundary which determined the outside appearance of the solids but had no intrinsic character of its own. The concept that surfaces have specific properties and are the first and foremost means of communication between individual things and the rest of the universe is fairly new, coming into prominence only in the early sixties. This new concept of surface properties was the result of a vast accumulation of knowledge due to recent development of research in this area. This breakthrough of surface science resulted from the combined action of four factors: (i) control of surface sample prep aration, (ii) control of the surface's environment, (iii) improve ment of measurement tools and techniques, and (iv) the importance of surface properties in many new industrial areas. Nearly eighty techniques are now available to help us answer to the following questions: what is the surface structure or arrangement of surface atoms? what are the atomic species present? what is the spatial distribution of foreign atoms? what are the nature and distribution of possible defects on the surface? what is the electronic structure of the surface atoms? what is the motion of atoms on the surface? In general, two or more analytical techniques are used concurrently to assure unequivocal answers to problems. Different techniques employ different combina. tions of incident probes and the scattered or secondary particles that convey information regarding the sur faces.
