This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rae Earnshawand John A. Vince --_. . _----- 1 Introduction The USPresident's Information Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC)recently advised the US Senate of the strategic importance of investing in IT for the 21st century, particularlyin the areas of software,human-computer interaction, scalable information infrastructure, high-end computing and socioeconomic issues [1]. Research frontiers ofhuman-computer interaction include the desire that interac tion be more centered around human needs and capabilities, and that the human environment be considered in virtual environments and in other contextual infor mation-processing activities. The overall goal is to make users more effective in their information or communication tasks by reducing learning times, speeding performance, lowering error rates, facilitating retention and increasing subjective satisfaction. Improved designs can dramatically increase effectiveness for users, who range from novices to experts and who have diverse cultures with varying educational backgrounds. Their lives could be made more satisfying, their work safer, their learning easier and their health better.

For programmers, this book provides a solid theoretical orientation and extensive practical instruction information you can put to work in any development or customization project. For animators, it provides crystal-clear guidance on determining which of your concepts can be realized using commercially available products, which demand custom programming, and what development strategies are likely to bring you the greatest success. - Expert instruction from a variety of pace-setting computer graphics researchers. - Provides in-depth coverage of established and emerging animation algorithms. - For readers who lack a strong scientific background, introduces the necessary concepts from mathematics, biology, and physics. - A variety of individual languages and substances are addressed, but addressed separately - enhancing your grasp of the field as a whole while providing you with the ability to identify and implement solutions by category.
Book Synopsis Rendering Techniques ’98 by : George Drettakis
Download or read book Rendering Techniques ’98 written by George Drettakis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some of the best current research on realistic rendering is included in this volume. It emphasizes the current "hot topics” in this field: image based rendering, and efficient local and global-illumination calculations. In the first of these areas, there are several contributions on real-world model acquisition and display, on using image-based techniques for illumination and on efficient ways to parameterize and compress images or light fields, as well as on clever uses of texture and compositing hardware to achieve image warping and 3D surface textures. In global and local illumination, there are contributions on extending the techniques beyond diffuse reflections, to include specular and more general angle dependent reflection functions, on efficiently representing and approximating these reflection functions, on representing light sources and on approximating visibility and shadows. Finally, there are two contributions on how to use knowledge about human perception to concentrate the work of accurate rendering only where it will be noticed, and a survey of computer graphics techniques used in the production of a feature length computer-animated film with full 3D characters.

Book Synopsis Rendering Techniques 2000 by : B. Peroche
Download or read book Rendering Techniques 2000 written by B. Peroche and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the proceedings of the 11th Eurographics Workshop on Rendering, which took place from the 26th to the 28th of June, 2000, in Brno, Czech Republic. Over the past 10 years, the Workshop has become the premier forum dedicated to research in rendering. Much of the work in rendering now appearing in other conferences and journals builds on ideas originally presented at the Workshop. This year we received a total of 84 submissions. Bachpaper was carefully reviewed by two of the 25 international programme committee members, as weil as external reviewers, selected by the co-chairs from a pool of 121 individuals (The programme committee and external reviewers are listed following the contents pages). In this review process, all submissions and reviews were handled electronically, with the exception of videos submitted with a few of the papers (however, some mpeg movies were also sent electronically). The overall quality of the submissions was exceptionally high. Space and time constraints forced the committee to make some difficult decisions. In the end, 33 papers were accepted, and they appear here. Almost all papers are accompanied by color images, which appear at the end of the book. The papers treat the following varied topics: radiosity, ray tracing, methods for global illumination, visibility, reftectance, filtering, perception, hardware assisted methods, real time rendering, modeling for effi cient rendering and new image representations.
Book Synopsis Digital Content Creation by : Rae Earnshaw
Download or read book Digital Content Creation written by Rae Earnshaw and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The very word "digital" has acquired a status that far exceeds its humble dictionary definition. Even the prefix digital, when associ ated with familiar sectors such as radio, television, photography and telecommunications, has reinvented these industries, and provided a unique opportunity to refresh them with new start-up companies, equipment, personnel, training and working practices - all of which are vital to modern national and international economies. The last century was a period in which new media stimulated new job opportunities, and in many cases created totally new sectors: video competed with film, CDs transformed LPs, and computer graphics threatened traditional graphic design sectors. Today, even the need for a physical medium is in question. The virtual digital domain allows the capture, processing, transmission, storage, retrieval and display of text, images, audio and animation without familiar materials such as paper, celluloid, magnetic tape and plastic. But moving from these media to the digital domain intro duces all sorts of problems, such as the conversion of analog archives, multimedia databases, content-based retrieval and the design of new content that exploits the benefits offered by digital systems. It is this issue of digital content creation that we address in this book. Authors from around the world were invited to comment on different aspects of digital content creation, and their contributions form the 23 chapters of this volume.

Book Synopsis Recording, Modeling and Visualization of Cultural Heritage by : Manos Baltsavias
Download or read book Recording, Modeling and Visualization of Cultural Heritage written by Manos Baltsavias and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2005-11-17 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the recording, modelling and visualization of cultural heritage (anthropogenic objects and natural scenes) and related processes. The areas discussed include data acquisition, using a variety of sensors (mainly optical sensors and laser scanners); platforms and mobile systems; data management and Spatial Information Systems; 3D modeling; and reconstruction, visualization and animation; Virtual and Augmented Reality, including innovative software and hardware systems; applications and interdisciplinary projects. A central focus is the development of methods for automated data processing. The aim of the workshop was to survey recent developments, trends, and new approaches and to bring together the various heterogeneous groups active in cultural heritage (sponsors, archaeologists and architects, scientists in remote sensing, photogrammetry, computer vision and computer graphics etc.). The involvement of these groups, representing both producers and users of information, allowed a cross-fertilisation and a multidisciplinary treatment of the workshop topics. This book offers a comprehensive selection of high-quality contributions from leading international research institutions and other organisations active in cultural heritage, treating theoretical issues as well as projects and applications and representing the cutting edge of this key subject as presented at the workshop organised by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich at Monte Verità, Ascona, Switzerland on 22-27 May 2005.
