Book Synopsis Computational Aerodynamic Modeling of Aerospace Vehicles by : Mehdi Ghoreyshi
Download or read book Computational Aerodynamic Modeling of Aerospace Vehicles written by Mehdi Ghoreyshi and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2019-03-08 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Currently, the use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solutions is considered as the state-of-the-art in the modeling of unsteady nonlinear flow physics and offers an early and improved understanding of air vehicle aerodynamics and stability and control characteristics. This Special Issue covers recent computational efforts on simulation of aerospace vehicles including fighter aircraft, rotorcraft, propeller driven vehicles, unmanned vehicle, projectiles, and air drop configurations. The complex flow physics of these configurations pose significant challenges in CFD modeling. Some of these challenges include prediction of vortical flows and shock waves, rapid maneuvering aircraft with fast moving control surfaces, and interactions between propellers and wing, fluid and structure, boundary layer and shock waves. Additional topic of interest in this Special Issue is the use of CFD tools in aircraft design and flight mechanics. The problem with these applications is the computational cost involved, particularly if this is viewed as a brute-force calculation of vehicle’s aerodynamics through its flight envelope. To make progress in routinely using of CFD in aircraft design, methods based on sampling, model updating and system identification should be considered.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This computational aerodynamics textbook is written at the undergraduate level, based on years of teaching focused on developing the engineering skills required to become an intelligent user of aerodynamic codes. This is done by taking advantage of CA codes that are now available and doing projects to learn the basic numerical and aerodynamic concepts required. This book includes a number of unique features to make studying computational aerodynamics more enjoyable. These include: • The computer programs used in the book's projects are all open source and accessible to students and practicing engineers alike on the book's website, www.cambridge.org/aerodynamics. The site includes access to images, movies, programs, and more • The computational aerodynamics concepts are given relevance by CA Concept Boxes integrated into the chapters to provide realistic asides to the concepts • Readers can see fluids in motion with the Flow Visualization Boxes carefully integrated into the text.

Book Synopsis Experimental and Theoretical Studies of Axisymmetric Free Jets by :
Download or read book Experimental and Theoretical Studies of Axisymmetric Free Jets written by and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some experimental and theoretical studies have been made of axisymmetric free jets exhausting from sonic and supersonic nozzles into still air and into supersonic streams with a view toward problems associated with propulsive jets and the investigation of these problems. For jets exhausting into still air, consideration is given to the effects of jet Mach number, nozzle divergence angle, and jet static-pressure ratio upon jet structure, jet wavelength, and the shape and curvature of the jet boundary. Studies of the effects of the ratio of specific heats of the jets are included as are observations pertaining to jet noise and jet simulation. For jets exhausting into supersonic streams, an attempt has been made to present primarily theoretical curves of the type that may be useful in evaluating certain jet interference effects and in formulating experimental studies. The primary variables considered are jet Mach number, free-stream Mach number, jet static-pressure ratio, ratio of specific heats of the jet, nozzle exit angle, and boattail angle. The simulation problem and the case of a hypothetical hypersonic vehicle are examined. A few experimental observations are included.
Book Synopsis New Results in Numerical and Experimental Fluid Mechanics XII by : Andreas Dillmann
Download or read book New Results in Numerical and Experimental Fluid Mechanics XII written by Andreas Dillmann and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-09-26 with total page 862 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers contributions to the 21st biannual symposium of the German Aerospace Aerodynamics Association (STAB) and the German Society for Aeronautics and Astronautics (DGLR). The individual chapters reflect ongoing research conducted by the STAB members in the field of numerical and experimental fluid mechanics and aerodynamics, mainly for (but not limited to) aerospace applications, and cover both nationally and EC-funded projects. Special emphasis is given to collaborative research projects conducted by German scientists and engineers from universities, research-establishments and industries. By addressing a number of cutting-edge applications, together with the relevant physical and mathematics fundamentals, the book provides readers with a comprehensive overview of the current research work in the field. The book’s primary emphasis is on aerodynamic research in aeronautics and astronautics, and in ground transportation and energy as well.

Book excerpt: Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is an important design tool in engineering and also a substantial research tool in various physical sciences as well as in biology. The objective of this book is to provide university students with a solid foundation for understanding the numerical methods employed in today's CFD and to familiarise them with modern CFD codes by hands-on experience. It is also intended for engineers and scientists starting to work in the field of CFD or for those who apply CFD codes. Due to the detailed index, the text can serve as a reference handbook too. Each chapter includes an extensive bibliography, which provides an excellent basis for further studies.
Book Synopsis Aerial Robots by : Omar D Lopez Mejia
Download or read book Aerial Robots written by Omar D Lopez Mejia and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2017-09-06 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few years ago, the topic of aerial robots was exclusively related to the robotics community, so a great number of books about the dynamics and control of aerial robots and UAVs have been written. As the control technology for UAVs advances, the great interaction that exists between other systems and elements that are as important as control such as aerodynamics, energy efficiency, acoustics, structural integrity, and applications, among others has become evident. Aerial Robots - Aerodynamics, Control, and Applications is an attempt to bring some of these topics related to UAVs together in just one book and to look at a selection of the most relevant problems of UAVs in a broader engineering perspective.
