Book Synopsis Marine Palaeoenvironmental Analysis from Fossils by : Dan W. J. Bosence
Download or read book Marine Palaeoenvironmental Analysis from Fossils written by Dan W. J. Bosence and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 1995 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume critically reviews the use of fossils for the analysis of palaeoenvironments. The papers are multi-disciplinary, drawing on a host of geochemical, palaeoecological and palaeontological methods from traditional taxonomic uniformitarianism to more recently developed geochemical isotopic analyses. The approach of the book is analytical rather than taxonomic, concentrating on a range of techniques. The common thread, however, is that it is palaeontological material that is being considered, whether it be identifiable body fossils, trace fossils, distinctive fossil associates, diagenetically unaltered material or organic compounds. Using a number of methods, and comparing their results, allows different environmental controls to be isolated and provides more information on the record of past environmental parameters. The volume focuses on the data obtained from organisms and their remains and will be of importance to sedimentologists, stratigraphers and palaeontolgists who need to maximize their palaeoenvironmental interpretations of depositonal environments, facies models, sequence stratigraphy and palaeoclimates.--Provided by publisher.

Book Synopsis Miocene Stratigraphy by : A. Montanari
Download or read book Miocene Stratigraphy written by A. Montanari and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1997-06-18 with total page 713 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrated stratigraphy is essential for⧫ detailed paleoecologic studies of critical intervals in Earth history⧫ the calibration of the time scale for global use⧫ the establishment of Global Stratotype Sections and Points (GSSPs) for the definition of chronostratigraphic boundaries. This book constitutes an excellent and probably unique example of how interdisciplinary stratigraphic and geochronologic studies are approached with modern methodologies and techniques. It contains numerous unpublished, accurate radioisotopic dates of volcano-sedimentary layers interbedded in fossiliferous marine and continental Miocene sequences representing Mediterranean and Pacific environments. New, extremely detailed paleontologic data which constitute the basis for an accurate definition of the Miocene biostratigraphy, and the study of the ecologic evolution of Miocene marine environments are also included. The chapters are complimented by black-and-white photographs, graphic figures, and tables.Stratigraphers, paleontologists and sedimentologists plus geologists working in oil companies will certainly find this work of interest.

Book Synopsis Mesozoic and Cenozoic Sequence Stratigraphy of European Basins by : Pierre Charles de Graciansky
Download or read book Mesozoic and Cenozoic Sequence Stratigraphy of European Basins written by Pierre Charles de Graciansky and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 818 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project was designed to build a documented chronostratigraphic and outcrop record of depositional sequences calibrated across European basins. Data on standard stages, magnetostratigraphy, and geochronology integrated with high resolution biostratigraphy calibrate the stratigraphic position of depositional sequence boundaries. Higher order eustatic sequences show a significant increase in the number identified. A good portion of the European Mesozoic and Cenozoic succession is set in the sequence stratigraphic context with a stratigraphic record of its bonding surfaces.
