Book Synopsis Air Route Networks Through Complex Networks Theory by : Jose M. Sallan
Download or read book Air Route Networks Through Complex Networks Theory written by Jose M. Sallan and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2019-11-07 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air Route Networks through Complex Networks Theory connects theory research with network connectivity analysis, providing practitioners with the tools they need to develop more efficient, resilient and profitable air route networks. The book helps airline route planners and executives create more robust route networks that are less vulnerable to disruptions, such as node isolation. The book further explores errors and attacks in complex networks, strategies for detecting critical nodes and cascading failure models to assess and maximize robustness. The book explains how to measure air route network connectivity with complex network representations. Air transport is among the most dynamic and toughest competition industries in today's global economy. The quality of air route network design is a key strategic factor in an airline's viability. These robust networks provide for more stable and secure carrier operations vs. those based simply on existing supply and demand volumes. Node-specific and network-specific representations are covered, along with in-depth coverage of connectivity in special and temporal networks. These collective tools serve as a guide for practitioners seeking to apply complex network theory to the airline industry.
Book Synopsis Graph Spectra for Complex Networks by : Piet van Mieghem
Download or read book Graph Spectra for Complex Networks written by Piet van Mieghem and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-12-02 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analyzing the behavior of complex networks is an important element in the design of new man-made structures such as communication systems and biologically engineered molecules. Because any complex network can be represented by a graph, and therefore in turn by a matrix, graph theory has become a powerful tool in the investigation of network performance. This self-contained 2010 book provides a concise introduction to the theory of graph spectra and its applications to the study of complex networks. Covering a range of types of graphs and topics important to the analysis of complex systems, this guide provides the mathematical foundation needed to understand and apply spectral insight to real-world systems. In particular, the general properties of both the adjacency and Laplacian spectrum of graphs are derived and applied to complex networks. An ideal resource for researchers and students in communications networking as well as in physics and mathematics.

Book Synopsis The Complex Networks of Economic Interactions by : Akira Namatame
Download or read book The Complex Networks of Economic Interactions written by Akira Namatame and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-03-09 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the mechanism of a socio-economic system requires more than an understanding of the individuals that comprise the system. It also requires understanding how individuals interact with each other, and how the agg- gated outcome can be more than the sum of individual behaviors. This book contains the papers fostering the formation of an active multi-disciplinary community on socio-economic systems with the exciting new ?elds of age- based modeling and econophysics. We especially intend to increase the awareness of researchers in many ?elds with sharing the common view many economic and social activities as collectives of a large-scale heterogeneous and interacting agents. Economists seek to understand not only how individuals behave but also how the interaction of many individuals leads to complex outcomes. Age- based modeling is a method for studying socio-economic systems exhibiting the following two properties: (1) the system is composed of interacting agents, and (2) the system exhibits emergent properties, that is, properties arising from the interactions of the agents that cannot be deduced simply by agg- gating the properties of the system’s components. When the interaction of the agents is contingent on past experience, and especially when the agents continually adapt to that experience, mathematical analysis is typically very limited in its ability to derive the outcome.

Temporal network theory is perhaps the most recent significant development in the field in recent years, with direct applications to many of the “big data” sets. This book appeals to students, researchers, and professionals interested in theory and temporal networks—a field that has grown tremendously over the last decade. This second edition of Temporal Network Theory extends the first with three chapters highlighting recent developments in the interface with machine learning.
Book Synopsis Mining Complex Networks by : Bogumil Kaminski
Download or read book Mining Complex Networks written by Bogumil Kaminski and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2021-12-14 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book concentrates on mining networks, a subfield within data science. Data science uses scientific and computational tools to extract valuable knowledge from large data sets. Once data is processed and cleaned, it is analyzed and presented to support decision-making processes. Data science and machine learning tools have become widely used in companies of all sizes. Networks are often large-scale, decentralized, and evolve dynamically over time. Mining complex networks aim to understand the principles governing the organization and the behavior of such networks is crucial for a broad range of fields of study. Here are a few selected typical applications of mining networks: Community detection (which users on some social media platforms are close friends). Link prediction (who is likely to connect to whom on such platforms). Node attribute prediction (what advertisement should be shown to a given user of a particular platform to match their interests). Influential node detection (which social media users would be the best ambassadors of a specific product). This textbook is suitable for an upper-year undergraduate course or a graduate course in programs such as data science, mathematics, computer science, business, engineering, physics, statistics, and social science. This book can be successfully used by all enthusiasts of data science at various levels of sophistication to expand their knowledge or consider changing their career path. Book Synopsis Disrupted Networks by : Bruce J. West
Download or read book Disrupted Networks written by Bruce J. West and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a lens through which modern society is shown to depend on complex networks for its stability. One way to achieve this understanding is through the development of a new kind of science, one that is not explicitly dependent on the traditional disciplines of biology, economics, physics, sociology and so on; a science of networks. This text reviews, in non-mathematical language, what we know about the development of science in the twenty-first century and how that knowledge influences our world. In addition, it distinguishes the two-tiered science of the twentieth century, based on experiment and theory (data and knowledge) from the three-tiered science of experiment, computation and theory (data, information and knowledge) of the twenty-first century in everything from psychophysics to climate change. This book is unique in that it addresses two parallel lines of argument. The first line is general and intended for a lay audience, but one that is scientifically sophisticated, explaining how the paradigm of science has been changed to accommodate the computer and large-scale computation. The second line of argument addresses what some consider the seminal scientific problem of climate change. The authors show how a misunderstanding of the change in the scientific paradigm has led to a misunderstanding of complex phenomena in general, and the causes of global warming in particular.

Book Synopsis Handbook on Biological Networks by : Stefano Boccaletti
Download or read book Handbook on Biological Networks written by Stefano Boccaletti and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Networked systems are all around us. The accumulated evidence of systems as complex as a cell cannot be fully understood by studying only their isolated constituents, giving rise to a new area of interest in research ? the study of complex networks. In a broad sense, biological networks have been one of the most studied networks, and the field has benefited from many important contributions. By understanding and modeling the structure of a biological network, a better perception of its dynamical and functional behavior is to be expected. This unique book compiles the most relevant results and novel insights provided by network theory in the biological sciences, ranging from the structure and dynamics of the brain to cellular and protein networks and to population-level biology.
