Book excerpt: This is an excellent textbook, suitable as a core text for environmental engineers and environmental scientists but equally it should, in my opinion, be compulsory reading for all researchers, practitioners, and policy-makers regardless of their discipline because it has relevance for all. In fact, the book is so lively and understandable that everyone and anyone could and should read it. . . Clearly written by a team of recognised environmental authors drawn from around the world, it guides the reader through current thinking on the tools and techniques industry. . . As an academic, it is a delight to find a book to recommend that I know students will enjoy and one which addresses so many different elements of a diversity of university courses, while covering the most important areas of environmental technology and management. I am certainly using it to enhance and update the content of some of my own lectures. Book excerpt: In today’s world, ‘change’ is the only ‘constant’ factor. In the last few decades, there has been a radical change in how organizations function. To survive in this highly volatile environment, companies need a long-term strategic vision and thinking. In light of this, ‘strategic management’ has become a significant topic and is taught as the core subject in MBA/PGDM programmes in Indian universities and business schools. This is a book written in the context of the Indian business environment but with a global orientation. It is comprehensive and contemporary in its approach.

Download or read book Pro-ecological Restructuring of Companies written by Aleksandra Gąsior and published by Ubiquity Press. This book was released on 2019-04-17 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a practical approach to pro-environmental challenges faced by companies in the process of restructuring. It contains a broad variety of case studies from different economic sectors, and small and large businesses, in four European countries: Ukraine, Romania, Germany and Poland. The studies are the results of surveys of companies that had either already restructured or were planning to, and reveal both the weaknesses and strengths in these practices. The book is divided into three parts: explorations of how political and legal factors are embedded in a company’s strategy and how they influence the company’s behaviour; analyses of companies’ activities on matching restructuring with ecology; and approaches to ecoinnovations within the companies. The case studies throughout the book show that the restructuring of a company is an opportunity for the implementation of proecological action and “green” business models. The authors trust that the experiences and good practices of others will prove valuable both for future businessmen (i.e. students), but also for academics and representatives of local government, central environmental agencies, owners and managers of enterprises to be restructured.

Download or read book Eco-efficient Masonry Bricks and Blocks written by Fernando Pacheco-Torgal and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-27 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masonry walls constitute the interface between the building's interior and the outdoor environment. Masonry walls are traditionally composed of fired-clay bricks (solid or perforated) or blocks (concrete or earth-based), but in the past (and even in the present) they were often associated as needing an extra special thermal and acoustical insulation layer. However, over more recent years investigations on thermal and acoustical features has led to the development of new improved bricks and blocks that no longer need these insulation layers. Traditional masonry units (fired-clay bricks, concrete or earth-based blocks) that don't offer improved performance in terms of thermal and acoustical insulation are a symbol of a low-technology past, that are far removed from the demands of sustainable construction. This book provides an up-to-date state-of-the-art review on the eco-efficiency of masonry units, particular emphasis is placed on the design, properties, performance, durability and LCA of these materials. Since masonry units are also an excellent way to reuse bulk industrial waste the book will be important in the context of the Revised Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC which states that the minimum reuse and recycling targets for construction and demolition waste (CDW) should be at least 70% by 2020. On the 9th of March 2011 the European Union approved the Regulation (EU) 305/2011, known as the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and it will be enforced after the 1st of July 2013. The future commercialization of construction materials in Europe makes their environmental assessment mandatory meaning that more information related to the environmental performance of building materials is much needed. - Provides an authoritative guide to the eco-efficiency of masonry units - Examines the reuse of waste materials - Covers a range of materials including, clay, cement, earth and pumice
