Book Synopsis Facial Volumization with Fillers by : Kyle K. Seo
Download or read book Facial Volumization with Fillers written by Kyle K. Seo and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-18 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive guide to the use of injectable fillers for facial volumization. Traditionally, fillers have been used for anti-aging purposes such as for wrinkle treatments, but they are increasingly being applied in various ways to achieve beautification such as the augmentation of the nose, chin and lips, leveraging the volumizing effect of fillers. This trend is especially evident in Asian countries but can be expected to flourish elsewhere in the future. The book opens by explaining the specifics of pretreatment assessment and relevant aspects of the basic science of fillers. It then provides a detailed description of the anatomy, injection depth and injection amount relevant to each regional indication, easy to follow for even a novice injector, based on a rich assortment of anatomical illustrations, ultrasound imaging and cadaveric photos provided to assist their understanding. And guidance is also provided on combination treatments in conjunction with botulinum toxin, thread lifting, fat-dissolving injection, etc. Potential complications and countermeasures specific to volumization with fillers are identified. The book features a wealth of illustrations showing the relevant anatomy and before and after appearances, as well as video clips for each indication. Written by a specialist with extensive experience, it provides safe and effective guidance for both beginners and advanced practitioners.
Book Synopsis Lacrimal Gland, Tear Film, and Dry Eye Syndromes by : David A. Sullivan
Download or read book Lacrimal Gland, Tear Film, and Dry Eye Syndromes written by David A. Sullivan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past decade a significant international research effort has been directed towards understanding the composition and regulation of the preocular tear film. This effort has been motivated by the recognition that the tear film plays an essential role in maintaining corneal and conjunctival integrity, protecting against microbial challenge and preserving visual acuity. In addition, research has been stimulated by the knowledge that alteration or deficiency of the tear film, which occurs in countless individuals throughout the world, may lead to desiccation of the ocular surface, ulceration and perforation of the cornea, an increased incidence of infectious disease, and potentially, pronounced visual disability and blindness. 7 To promote further progress in this field of vision research, the International Conference on the Lacrimal Gland, Tear Film and Dry Eye Syndromes: Basic Science and Clinical Relevance was held in the Southampton Princess Resort in Bermuda from November 14 to 17, 1992. This meeting was designed to assess critically the current knowledge and 'state of the art' research on the structure and function of lacrimal tissue and tears in both health and disease. The goal of this conference was to provide an international exchange of information that would be of value to basic scientists involved in eye research, to physicians in the ophthalmological community, and to pharmaceutical companies with an interest in the treatment of lacrimal gland, tear film or ocular surface disorders (e. g. Sjogren's syndrome).

Book Synopsis Contrast Agents I by : Werner Krause
Download or read book Contrast Agents I written by Werner Krause and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2002-01-22 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extracellular MRI and X-ray contrast agents are characterized by their phar- cokinetic behaviour. After intravascular injection their plasma-level time curve is characeterized by two phases. The agents are rapidly distributed between plasma and interstitial spaces followed by renal elimination with a terminal half-live of approximatly 1–2 hours. They are excreted via the kidneys in unchanged form by glomerular filtration. Extracellular water-soluble contrast agents to be applied for X-ray imaging were introduced into clinical practice in 1923. Since that time they have proved to be most valuable tools in diagnostics. They contain iodine as the element of choice with a sufficiently high atomic weight difference to organic tissue. As positive contrast agents their attenuation of radiation is higher compared with the attenuation of the surrounding tissue. By this contrast enhancement X-ray diagnostics could be improved dramatically. In 2,4,6-triiodobenzoic acid derivatives iodine is firmly bound. Nowadays diamides of the 2,4,6-triiodo-5-acylamino-isophthalic acid like iopromide (Ultravist, Fig. 1) are used as non-ionic (neutral) X-ray contrast agents in most cases [1].
