Book Synopsis The Routledge Companion to Global Value Chains by : Renu Agarwal
Download or read book The Routledge Companion to Global Value Chains written by Renu Agarwal and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-09-30 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Companion provides a review of global value chains (GVCs) and the megatrends that are shaping them and will continue to reshape them in deep-set trajectories of change over the next few decades. Megatrends herald both challenges and opportunities. With the growing interest among business leaders and researchers in GVCs, this is a reference work which fills a gap in current literature by focusing on the new features of GVCs, including the shift of global purchasing power towards developing economies, the significance of emerging technologies and data analytics, the increasing tensions between globalisation and de-globalisation, and the role of micro-multinationals, start-up entrepreneurs, the public sector and middle markets in a fast-changing global economy. The early chapters are essentially intradisciplinary in character, with the first seeking to explore some historical aspects of GVCs. Subsequent chapters cover the theory and practice of operations and supply chain management, emerging supply chain technologies, and the impact of inter-firm collaboration across sectors and economies. The final chapters take a more interdisciplinary approach and examine topics at the interface of GVCs with the economy, society, culture and politics. This comprehensive handbook provides a timely analysis of leading-edge global megatrends and practices in one volume.

Book Synopsis Carrying on the Tradition: A Social and Intellectual History of Hadith Transmission across a Thousand Years by : Garrett Davidson
Download or read book Carrying on the Tradition: A Social and Intellectual History of Hadith Transmission across a Thousand Years written by Garrett Davidson and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2020-07-20 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Carrying on the Tradition Garrett Davidson employs a variety of largely unutilized print, as well as archival sources collected from the Near East, North Africa, India, Europe, and North America. He analyses these sources to excavate the fundamental reinvention of the conceptions and practices of hadith transmission that resulted from the establishment of the hadith canon. Further, the book examines how hadith scholars reimagined the transmission of hadith, not as a scholarly tool, as it had originally been, but instead as, among other things, an act of pious emulation of the forefathers. It demonstrates the emergence of new genres and subgenres of hadith literature, as a result of this shift, examining them as artefacts of the cultural, social, and intellectual history of Muslim religiosity from the tenth to twentieth centuries.

Book Synopsis The Probability Companion for Engineering and Computer Science by : Adam Prügel-Bennett
Download or read book The Probability Companion for Engineering and Computer Science written by Adam Prügel-Bennett and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2020-01-23 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This friendly guide is the companion you need to convert pure mathematics into understanding and facility with a host of probabilistic tools. The book provides a high-level view of probability and its most powerful applications. It begins with the basic rules of probability and quickly progresses to some of the most sophisticated modern techniques in use, including Kalman filters, Monte Carlo techniques, machine learning methods, Bayesian inference and stochastic processes. It draws on thirty years of experience in applying probabilistic methods to problems in computational science and engineering, and numerous practical examples illustrate where these techniques are used in the real world. Topics of discussion range from carbon dating to Wasserstein GANs, one of the most recent developments in Deep Learning. The underlying mathematics is presented in full, but clarity takes priority over complete rigour, making this text a starting reference source for researchers and a readable overview for students.
