Book Synopsis Who Says You Can't Sell Ice to Eskimos? by : James W. Murphy
Download or read book Who Says You Can't Sell Ice to Eskimos? written by James W. Murphy and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-10 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "'Parachute me in anywhere in America and I'll write at least one order that day,' says author Jim Murphy, which perfectly describes the exuberance and can-do attitude of this remarkable, old-school door-to-door encyclopedia salesman who made millions during his career. Do you have a doorknob close? Do you know what a three-dime bank is? Have you discovered the perfect way to overcome price objections? You will. After sitting down to four days of in-depth interviews, Murphy lays it all out, every trick he used, every tell he watched for to make a sale. This is no ivory-tower theorist but rather a witty, engaging, behind-the-scenes confessional from one of the nation's best. No matter what you rep and no matter what you sell - stocks, insurance, cars, clothing, technology, travel, or lemonade on the street - you'll be a lot better at it after an hour or two with Murphy. Great salespeople are made not born, Murphy reminds us - you just need to know a few of those unsaid things that they don't teach you in school' - Amazon.com.

Book Synopsis Ten Things I Learned from Bill Porter by : Shelly Brady
Download or read book Ten Things I Learned from Bill Porter written by Shelly Brady and published by New World Library. This book was released on 2010-10-05 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite being born with cerebral palsy, Bill Porter grew up to take the physically demanding job of a door to door salesman in the worst neighborhood in Portland, Oregon, earning no pay, only commissions. Eventually he became the companys top salesman in the city, the region, and finally the country. Along the way he learned powerful life lessons that he imparted to those around him. One of those people was Shelly Brady, first hired by Porter as a typist and driver, later to become his great friend. In this inspiring book, she brings together his lessons. These seemingly simple ideas, such as Mothers Know Best, Persistence Pays Off, and Know Your Limits, but Reach Beyond Them, resonate powerfully when seen through the lens of a life lived to the fullest against what would be impossible odds for many. Whether finding cooperative bellmen to button his cuffs or beaming a video to his speaking engagements because of ill health, Porter, whose life story became a cause celebre in the 1990s, gets the job done with a smile, and inspires readers to do the same.

Book Synopsis Organizing Leviathan by : Carl Dahlström
Download or read book Organizing Leviathan written by Carl Dahlström and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-06-21 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why are some countries less corrupt and better governed than others? Challenging conventional explanations on the remarkable differences in quality of government worldwide, this book argues that the organization of bureaucracy is an often overlooked but critical factor. Countries where merit-recruited employees occupy public bureaucracies perform better than those where public employees owe their post to political connections. The book provides a coherent theory of why, and ample evidence showing that meritocratic bureaucracies are conducive to lower levels of corruption, higher government effectiveness, and more flexibility to adopt modernizing reforms. Data comes from both a novel dataset on the bureaucratic structures of over 100 countries as well as from narratives of particular countries, with a special focus on the relationship between politicians and bureaucrats in Spain and Sweden. A notable contribution to the literature in comparative politics and public policy on good governance, and to corruption studies more widely.

– Willis Johnson
