Book Synopsis In-service Experience with Traffic Noise Barriers by : William Bowlby
Download or read book In-service Experience with Traffic Noise Barriers written by William Bowlby and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1992 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to highway environmental engineers, noise analysts, design engineers, maintenance personnel, planners, administrators, and others responsible for the design, selection, and maintenance of noise barriers or other traffic noise abatement policies. Information is provided on current state practice associated with noise abatement techniques and on the various products that are used. This synthesis describes the state of the art with respect to traffic noise abatement procedures, especially noise barriers. This report of the Transportation Research Board provides information on the design, construction and maintenance of both new (Type I) and retrofit ( Type II) noise barriers. The design elements that are addressed include materials, the selection process, service life, foundations, drainage, aesthetics, and safety. The construction section covers technical problems related to surface effects, durability, snow damage, and costs. Other noise abatement measures such as insulation and highway design alternatives are also addressed. The issue of public demand and availability funding is included, and recommendations are made to improve the situation.

Book Synopsis Transportation Planning and Public Participation by : Ted Grossardt
Download or read book Transportation Planning and Public Participation written by Ted Grossardt and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2018-06-20 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transportation Planning and Public Participation: Theory, Process, and Practice explains why, and then how, transportation professionals can treat public participation as an opportunity to improve their projects and identify problems before they do real damage. Using fundamental principles based on extensive project-based research and insights drawn from multiple disciplines, the book helps readers re-think their expectations regarding the project process. It shows how public perspectives can be productively solicited, gathered, modeled, and integrated into the planning and design process, guides project designers on how to ask the proper questions and identify strategies, and demonstrates the tradeoffs of different techniques. Readers will find an analytic and evaluation framework - along with process design guidelines - that will help improve the usefulness and applicability of public input. - Shows how to apply quantifiable metrics to the public participation process - Helps readers critically analyze and identify project properties that impact public participation process decisions - Provides in-depth examples that demonstrate how feedback, representation, and decision modeling can be integrated to achieve outcomes - Demonstrates basic principles using examples from a wide range of types and scales - Presents tactics on how to make public meetings more efficient and satisfying by integrating appropriate visualizations

Book Synopsis Basic of sound and hearing Part 4 building acoustics by : prof.Ibrahim elnoshokaty
Download or read book Basic of sound and hearing Part 4 building acoustics written by prof.Ibrahim elnoshokaty and published by ibrahim elnoshokaty. This book was released on 2020-11-19 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Building acoustics is the science of controlling noise in buildings. This includes the minimization of noise transmission from one space to another and the control of the characteristics of sound within spaces themselves. Building acoustics are an important consideration in the design, operation and construction of most buildings, and can have a significant impact on health and wellbeing, communication and productivity. They can be particularly significant in spaces such as concert halls, recording studios, lecture theatres, and so on, where the quality of sound and its intelligibility are very important. Building acoustics can be influenced by: The geometry and volume of a space. The sound absorption, transmission and reflection characteristics of surfaces enclosing the space and within the space. The sound absorption, transmission and reflection characteristics of materials separating spaces. The generation of sound inside or outside the space. Airborne sound transmission. Impact noise.
