Book excerpt: Un défi majeur dans les réseaux d'aujourd'hui est de combler l'écart entre la haute vitesse de la transmission optique et la vitesse plus limitée du traitement électronique des données. Une option est de commuter les données directement dansle domaine optique. Dans cette thèse, nous proposons plusieurs solutions permettant la commutation dans le domaine optique à une granularité plus fine que la longueur d'onde, technique que nous appelons commutation sous-longueurd'onde. Pour montrer la pertinence des solutions proposées, nous analysons leur performance en termes de capacité de trafic, de débit et de délai. La performance est évaluée à la fois par des simulations et en utilisant des modèles de filesd'attente appropriés. Nous considérons d'abord le cas des réseaux métropolitains (Metropolitan Area Networks, MAN) et nous étudions la performance d'un anneau optique avec multiplexage en longueur d'onde (Wavelength Division Multiplexing, WDM) dans lequel la communication entre les noeuds du réseau se fait par insertion/extraction de données dans des créneaux temporels. Nous présentons un protocole entièrement distribué conçu pour assurer l'équité dansce réseau. Nous proposons également un mécanisme d'assemblage de paquets capable d'assurer des délais faibles ainsi que des taux de remplissage élevés. Nous proposons ensuite des solutions de commutation sous-longueur d'onde qui peuvent être appliquées dans le cas plus général des réseaux asynchrones. D'abord, nous proposons de résoudre le problème des collisions de la commutation optique par rafale (Optical Burst Switching, OBS) par la mise en oeuvre d'un mécanisme de réservation. Afin de maximiser l'utilisation des ressources, nous proposons d'adapter la taille de la rafale optique à la charge du réseau.Ensuite, nous proposons une solution alternative pour construire un réseau coeur tout-optique. A cette architecture, nous associons un protocole d'accès ainsi qu'un algorithme d'allocation dynamique de bande passante et nous analysons les performances de la solution proposée. Par le biais d'une étude de cas, nousmontrons que notre solution est capable de réduire considérablement la consommation énergétique par rapport aux architectures actuelles basées sur des routeurs IP. Enfin, nous proposons un nouveau dispositif optique capable derésoudre la contention directement dans le domaine optique. Nous montrons que ce dispositif simple peut être utilisé pour construire des réseaux optiques dynamiques à courte portée tels que les réseaux d'accès ou les centres de traitement de données.

Des groupes de travail sont en place pour normaliser la prochaine génération de PON qui permettra des accès de l'ordre du Gigabit/s. Dans cette optique, cette thèse porte sur les réseaux d'accès optiques exploitant le multiplexage en longueurs d'ondes (WDM). Le premier chapitre décrit de façon générale le réseau d'accès ainsi que la technologie du multiplexage en longueurs d'onde. Le second chapitre est un état de l'art des PON WDM. Les avantages et contraintes de chaque architecture et composant utilisés sont analysés. Le troisième chapitre présente deux architectures innovantes de PON WDM, qui ont été imaginées puis maquettées en laboratoire, permettant un débit global de 1 Gbit/s par longueur d'onde sur 20 km. Ces architectures sont basées sur un amplificateur optique à semiconducteur réflectif (RSOA) qui permet d'obtenir un module client achromatique bas coût. L'association du multiplexage en longueurs d'onde et du multiplexage temporel est expérimentée afin d'augmenter la mutualisation sur chaque PON WDM. Une étude sur la conversion tout optique de longueur d'onde de la bande O vers les bandes C et L, basée sur un modulateur à électro-absorption, a également été réalisée, dans le cadre d'une architecture de réseau d'accès étendu. Une étude théorique sur les limitations de la transmission bidirectionnelle dans une fibre a été effectuée dans le chapitre 4 afin d'évaluer en particulier les impacts de la rétrodiffusion de Rayleigh sur les performances des architectures étudiées.

Channels are routed and switched in the optical domain . In this manner data channels are carried from the receiver side to its destination making use of optical transmission techniques . Wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) is a transmission technique that has dramatically increased the capacity of optical transmission systems. WDM allows for transmission of several channels over a single optical fiber by - ing different wavelength as the channel carrier . Optical switching and routing techniques are also being developed to cope with the high data speeds and n- ber of channel carried in the optical fibers. These functionalities are provided by optical crossconnects. The use of transmission techniques such as WDM in combination with optical crossconnects is enabling optical networking at high bit-rates reaching terabits per second . These techniques also offer ways to improve the network flexibility and configurability .

De ce fait, plusieurs composants de fibre optique ont été développés, parmi eux on retrouve les réseaux de Bragg qui suscitent un vaste intérêt grâce à leurs filtres à réflexion à bande très étroite permettant de réfléchir plusieurs longueurs d'ondes d'un signal optique se propageant sur la fibre. Ces réseaux présentent de nombreux avantages, entre autres leur utilisation comme capteurs dans la détection de la température, la déformation, la pression, la vitesse et le niveau d'un fluide. Ils trouvent également leur application dans les systèmes de multiplexage en longueur d'onde. La détermination des paramètres physiques des réseaux de Bragg permet une conception des réseaux de Bragg spécifiques. Par conséquent, la technologie des réseaux de Bragg est souvent incorporée dans le domaine de télécommunication tel que les compensateurs de dispersion, filtrage spectral et filtrage des longueurs d'ondes. L'analyse spectrale d'un réseau de Bragg est déterminée par trois paramètres : la période du réseau, le rapport du couplage entre les indices de réfraction et la longueur du réseau. Le développement des outils de calculs est l'une des méthodes utilisées pour gérer l'augmentation du débit de l'information transmise, les méthodes classiques déterminent le spectre de réflexion à partir des paramètres physiques du réseau de Bragg. La présente étude propose une marche à suivre pour faire une approximation des paramètres physiques d'un réseau de Bragg à partir du spectre de réflexion en utilisant l'algorithme de colonies de fourmis. Les paramètres pris en compte sont : la période, la longueur d'onde du réseau et la variation de l'indice de réfraction. L'algorithme de colonies de fourmis est utilisé pour déterminer les paramètres des réseaux désirés à travers plusieurs simulations et variation de paramètres (sections, longueurs, nombre de fourmis). L'algorithme de colonies de fourmis est performant, donne des erreurs faibles (de l'ordre de 10−8 pour un réseau de Bragg uniforme) et converge rapidement, à partir de 11 itérations. Enfin, une simulation sera faite à titre d'exemple, pour d'illustrer leur application comme filtre dans le système de multiplexage en longueur d'onde (WDM). Le diagramme de l'œil montre que le facteur de qualité Q augmente avec l'application d'un réseau de Bragg (de 35.8 à 48 pour une longueur de fibre optique de10km)."--Sommaire.
