Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1983. This book presents a description and critical analysis of the communication systems and policy at the time in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, the Federal Republic of Germany, Sweden, Australia and New Zealand. It examines the technological and cultural forces shaping policy and communications development, and begins with a chapter presenting a review of the international context and of the conceptual frameworks suggested by scholars concerned with communication policy. Other chapters highlight the common trends among countries, and analyses the unique nature of policy and communications development in each country based on its cultural foundation. Download or read book Media Law in Germany written by Frank Fechner and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2023-05-20 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Derived from the renowned multi-volume International Encyclopaedia of Laws, this analysis of media law in Germany surveys the massively altered and enlarged legal landscape traditionally encompassed in laws pertaining to freedom of expression and regulation of communications. Everywhere, a shift from mass media to mass self-communication has put enormous pressure on traditional law models. An introduction describing the main actors and salient aspects of media markets is followed by in-depth analyses of print media, radio and television broadcasting, the Internet, commercial communications, political advertising, concentration in media markets, and media regulation. Among the topics that arise for discussion are privacy, cultural policy, protection of minors, competition policy, access to digital gateways, protection of journalists’ sources, standardization and interoperability, and liability of intermediaries. Relevant case law is considered throughout, as are various ethical codes. A clear, comprehensive overview of media legislation, case law, and doctrine, presented from the practitioner’s point of view, this book is a valuable time-saving resource for all concerned with media and communication freedom. Lawyers representing parties with interests in Germany will welcome this very useful guide, and academics and researchers will appreciate its value in the study of comparative media law.

This book was released on 2024-03-11 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2023 in the subject Politics - Political Systems - Germany, grade: 1,3, University of Cologne (Cologne Center for Comparative Politics), language: English, abstract: This master's thesis aims to expand the state of research by examining federal-state cooperation in the context of international DC. To this end, the policy field will first be described in terms of its institutional structure. Multi-level governance research as a sub- discipline of political science serves as the theoretical basis for classifying the system. Furthermore, the discussion of governance forms, as well as their opportunities and risks, serves as an in-depth description of the relationships between the actors of the system. To contextualise the framework, the theory of federalism is used. In this way, the influence of the prevailing political system can be considered. The FSP is used as a case study so that the impact of federal-state cooperation on state DC can be determined. At the time of this research report, no evaluation reports of the FSP exist. It is important to mention that the entire multi-level system is examined so that a possible conceptual deficiency can be counteracted, and no analytical gap arises. The focus of the paper is thus on the following question: To what extent does the multi-level system influence the performance of state development cooperation in the Federal Republic of Germany? The policy field of Development cooperation in Germany is subject to constant review of projects, with system-oriented studies on the decentralisation of the multi-level system being conducted in addition to content-specific impact studies. In this context, Groß analyses the impact of the multi-stakeholder approach, which is enshrined in the Sustainable Development Goals. The results show that the inclusion of all relevant stakeholders from politics, civil society and the private sector has a positive impact on the effectiveness and sustainability of decentralisation forms. The study underlines the importance of integrating all actors in a multi-level system. Consequently, it is noticeable that the state of research on federal-state cooperation in German DC is limited. Bohnet et al. discuss the structure of German DC in 2018. While the federal ministries involved are considered in detail, the representation of the federal states can be classified as marginal. Herrmanns examines the challenges of the German DC to be able to make recommendations for action for more efficiency.
Book Synopsis Pluralism, Politics and the Marketplace by : Suzanne Hasselbach
Download or read book Pluralism, Politics and the Marketplace written by Suzanne Hasselbach and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-09-11 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the mid-1980s, broadcasting in the Federal Republic of Germany has been extensively re-regulated. The traditional duopoly of the public broadcasters Ard and ZDF has been challenged by new private networks in both radio and television. In two historic judgements handed down in 1986 and 1987, the Federal Constitutional Court set out terms for a new dual order of private and public broadcasting. But how were the guidelines of the court interpreted in practice? Pluralism, Politics and the Marketplace traces the economic and political influences which shaped the emergence of a pluralistic broadcasting system in the federal republic, and examines the conflicts between public and private broadcasting, both in West Germany and in the European Community as a whole.
Book Synopsis The Political Economy of Communications by : Kenneth Dyson
Download or read book The Political Economy of Communications written by Kenneth Dyson and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-12-01 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1990, The Political Economy of Communications explores the central theme of the relationship between politics and markets in policy development. The contributors show how governments have been drawn into increasing interdependency by technological and market developments, with international institutions like the European Community becoming more important in these policy areas. They argue that neither government ideologies nor market and technological forces offer an adequate account of the processes of change in communications policy. These conclusions lead to a critique of central theories of international political economy, notably neo-liberalism, and the authors advocate instead a neo-pluralist perspective for the study of political economy of communications – an approach that takes institutions much more seriously as a central unit of analysis. The book will be of interest to students of international relations, European studies, and media and telecommunication studies, as well as to political scientists and economists concerned with public policy.
