Book Synopsis Communication et interculturalité : Cultures et interactions interpersonnelles by : FRAME Alexander
Download or read book Communication et interculturalité : Cultures et interactions interpersonnelles written by FRAME Alexander and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2013-02-01 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Relational Communication by : L. Edna Rogers
Download or read book Relational Communication written by L. Edna Rogers and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-03-05 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relational Communication: An Interactional Perspective to the Study of Process and Form brings together in one volume a full treatment of the relational communication perspective on the study of relationships. This perspective takes to heart the formative nature of communication by focusing on the codefined patterns of interaction by which members jointly create their relationship. This book provides a strong theoretical foundation to the research approach and also offers a step-by-step guide for carrying out the research procedures. It is a complete guide for the beginner or experienced researcher. The contributed chapters are written by researchers from psychology, clinical psychology, marital and family therapy, as well as marital, health, and organizational communication. Several of the studies on marital interaction are based on both American and Spanish research samples, offering a cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural application of the perspective. Part I opens with a discussion of the theoretical foundation and epistemological grounding of the perspective and then moves on to the observational research methods involved in applying the perspective's interactional approach. Part II presents a set of programmatic research exemplars that describe the application of the relational communication approach in different relational contexts, from marital to organizational settings. Part III offers a reflective overview of the research perspective. This book is appropriate for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, scholars, and researchers in communication. It will also be of interest to professionals, students, teachers and researchers in the fields of marital relations and family study, social and clinical psychology, family therapy, social work, and marital and family counseling programs.

Distinctive features of this handbook include: * broad, comprehensive treatment of work on social interaction skills and skill acquisition; * up-to-date reviews of research in each area; and * emphasis on empirically supported strategies for developing and enhancing specific skills. Book excerpt: 5,000,000 COPIES SOLD WORLDWIDE • TRANSLATED IN MORE THAN 35 LANGUAGES What is Violent Communication? If "violent" means acting in ways that result in hurt or harm, then much of how we communicate—judging others, bullying, having racial bias, blaming, finger pointing, discriminating, speaking without listening, criticizing others or ourselves, name-calling, reacting when angry, using political rhetoric, being defensive or judging who's "good/bad" or what's "right/wrong" with people—could indeed be called "violent communication." What is Nonviolent Communication? Nonviolent Communication is the integration of four things: • Consciousness: a set of principles that support living a life of compassion, collaboration, courage, and authenticity • Language: understanding how words contribute to connection or distance • Communication: knowing how to ask for what we want, how to hear others even in disagreement, and how to move toward solutions that work for all • Means of influence: sharing "power with others" rather than using "power over others" Nonviolent Communication serves our desire to do three things: • Increase our ability to live with choice, meaning, and connection • Connect empathically with self and others to have more satisfying relationships • Sharing of resources so everyone is able to benefit

Book Synopsis Lexique Français-Anglais Services aux personnes by : Céline Dudouet
Download or read book Lexique Français-Anglais Services aux personnes written by Céline Dudouet and published by Educagri Editions. This book was released on 2013-10-07 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Making Connections by : Kathleen M. Galvin
Download or read book Making Connections written by Kathleen M. Galvin and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2006 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fourth edition of Making Connections has been updated, expanded, and reorganized to reflect the changing field of relational communication. New essays address emerging topics--including anti-comforting messages, friendship in urban tribes, and discourse-dependent families--while a new section on the "dark side" of communication features articles on such topics as lying and irresolvable conflicts. Three new essays in the technology section reflect current thinking on Internet-based interpersonal relationships; communication norms in an online support group; and how student use of technology challenges existent communication theories. This edition also adds a complete subject index and is accompanied by an Instructor's Manual. Continuing the successful tradition and framework of previous editions, the fourth edition of Making Connections: * Employs the "lenses" of gender, family, and culture to view and make sense of relational communication * Offers a well-rounded discussion of the links between basic communication competencies and relationships * Features a developmental approach in terms of initiating, sustaining, and ending relationships * Reflects direct applications of relational issues within contexts of family, friendship, and technology * Explores issues relating to computer-mediated communication and new technologies in everyday life
Book Synopsis Understanding Creative Users of ICTs by : David Kurt Herold
Download or read book Understanding Creative Users of ICTs written by David Kurt Herold and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-09-13 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The disjuncture between the design intent of the developers of ICTs and the needs of the users has often led to surprising use of new technologies, as users have refused to become mere agents of the designers. Individual users have adopted their own uses of ICTs based on the complex webs of relations and meanings in which they function as social actors. Instead of adjusting these webs to new ICTs, they have fit the ICTs into their pre-existing social webs, often resulting in imaginative and creative uses of new technologies, not envisaged by the original designers. The contributions in this volume provide studies of such integrations of ICTs into the lives of human users, and demonstrate that such uses should not be regarded as 'faulty' or 'mistaken', merely because they 'fail' to meet the expectations of the original designers of the ICTs. Instead, human users should be given precedence over ICTs, and the creative uses of 'universal' technologies by individual users should be emphasised and studied, so as to move towards a better understanding and appreciation of the integration of ICTs into human lives. This book was originally published as special issue of The Information Society.

Book Synopsis Communication and Consequences by : Robert Norton
Download or read book Communication and Consequences written by Robert Norton and published by Routledge. This book was released on 1996 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The communicative process allows, sometimes forces, one to make connections about the self and simultaneously how the self relates to the other and the world. The bonus of communicating is that one makes connections with other individuals. Not only are social connections made, but political, business, spiritual, esoteric, and functional connections as well. Each connection holds the possibility of teaching the person more about the self and the world. This book helps individuals understand the dynamics of change particularly by focusing on enthymematic communication that can be used to effect change. It demonstrates the simultaneous potential of communication to both constrain and free the individual. The first part of the book establishes the theoretical ground by identifying the definitional issues, defining communication, and relating content and style to the sense-making function of interaction. The second part examines the primary consequences of interaction in both self and relational identity. Communication creates self-identification as well as relational identity, both of which provide a means of stabilizing the self and simultaneously allowing for change.
