L'auteur : Saint Jean Chrysostome est né à Antioche vers 344. En 397, il succède à Nectaire comme archevêque de Constantinople, déposé illégalement en 403 à cause de sa grande rigueur, il doit partir en exil où il meurt le 14 septembre 407 près du Caucase. Réhabilité dès 438 par le Pape Innocent, son corps est ramené triomphalement à Constantinople. Il est l'un des quatre plus grands Pères de l'Église.
