Imagine having access to the planning, training and motivational secrets of Australia's most elite military operators; then imagine being able to adapt what they know to your own everyday life. This is what Bram Connolly gives us in this smart, surprising, optimistic and autobiographical manual for resilience, personal leadership and success. In sharing the tedium of training as a raw recruit and taking us into the pitch of battle during some of the toughest fighting in Afghanistan, Bram Connolly reminds us among other things that it is okay to be bored, that laziness can quickly become a habit, that there are advantages in being scared and that it's fine to let go. Clear-headed, honest and self-deprecating, The Commando Way offers powerful lessons that can be used in all aspects of life, no matter who you are. 'The Commando Way is an engaging and practical journey . . . a must read for leaders in any stage of their own leadership journey.' - General Stanley McChrystal (Ret'd), former commander of US and International Security Assistance Forces Afghanistan

Book excerpt: On September 20, 1998, Jose Vigoa, a child of Fidel Castro’s revolution, launched what would be the most audacious and ruthless series of high-profile casino and armored car robberies that Las Vegas had ever seen. In a brazen sixteen-month reign of terror, he and his crew would hit the crème de la crème of Vegas hotels: the MGM, the Desert Inn, the New York—New York, the Mandalay Bay, and the Bellagio. The robberies were well planned and executed, and the police–“the stupids,” as Vigoa contemptuously referred to them–were all but helpless to stop them. But Lt. John Alamshaw, the twenty-three-year veteran in charge of robbery detectives, was not giving up so easily. For him, Vigoa’s rampage was a personal affront. And he would do whatever it took, even risk his badge, to bring Vigoa down.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is my second book about the Falklands War, The book is foreword by Major-General Malcolm Hunt OBE FRSA. .This time I have recorded interviews, written statements from both British and Argentine Marines and even permission to publish a poem! These are backed up with some iconic pictures. 40 Commando Royal Marines gets little or no coverage during the Falkland’s war. Many historians dismiss the unit as only playing the bland role of Brigade reserve. This was NOT the case. Alpha and Charlie Companies were attached to the Welsh Guards and took the southern route towards Port Stanley. Others were committed to 45 Commando RM and as for Bravo and HQ well, they were kept busy with actions on the West Island. My concept in this book is to give personal accounts by myself from or attached to 40 Commando RM and our adversaries from the Argentine Marines, during Operation Corporate (1982). As a young 19 year old Royal Marine in 9 Troop, C Company, I landed with the first wave at San Carlos Settlement Blue Beach, progressed on to Wreck Point, Ajax Bay and with the rest of A and C Companies was eventually attached to the Welsh Guards after the air bombing of Sir Galahad. During this period we formed the start line for the attack on Mount Harriet, advanced on Mount William and took Sapper Hill in the only 'hot' helicopter assault during the war that resulted in casualties and fatalities. A hill that the Welsh Guards seem to imply they alone had attacked and won. The fact being that the Welsh Guards did not fire one shot. The synopsis: A brief resume before my induction into the Royal Marines training at Commando Training Centre Royal Marines (CTCRM). The Falklands-War call up and sailing south on the P&O SS Canberra. The first landings at San Carlos Settlement off HMS Fearless at night. Air attacks In Bomb Alley. A and C Companies move from 3 Commando Brigade to join the 5th Army Brigade at Bluff Cove to replace the loss of Welsh Guards on Sir Galahad. A and C Companies southern route. Yomping over rivers of rock to the start line for the attack on Mount Harriet. Another night yomp this time through a mine field and getting stuck with casualties,. the little known and only 'hot' helicopter attack during the Falklands War on Sappers Hill by 9 and some members of 8 Troop. There is also a section on the Royal Marines ships attachment on HMS Yarmouth. The written accounts explain in some detail about being stuck in a minefield for five hours with casualties. Then immediately afterwards, the only helicopter daytime attack, under fire from Argentine Marines, by 9 Troop, 40 Commando Royal Marines at Sappers Hill, the last high ground before Port Stanley. This episode resulted in fatalities and casualties. Finally I comment on the Pros and Cons of the War and an unpalatable plaque placed on Sapper Hill by the Welsh Guards.

Book excerpt: An updated and expanded edition of the runaway bestseller Never Eat Alone by Keith Ferrazzi Proven advice on networking for success: over 400,000 copies sold. As Keith Ferrazzi discovered early in life, what distinguishes highly successful people from everyone else is the way they use the power of relationships - so that everyone wins. His form of connecting to the world around him is based on generosity and he distinguishes genuine relationship-building from the crude, desperate glad-handling usually associated with 'networking'. In Never Eat Alone, Ferrazzi lays out the specific steps - and inner mindset - he uses to reach out to connect with the thousands of colleagues, friends, and associates on his Rolodex, people he has helped and who have helped him. He then distills his system of reaching out to people into practical, proven principles. Keith Ferrazzi is founder and CEO of Ferrazzi Greenlight, a marketing and sales consulting company. He is the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Who's Got Your Back and has been a contributor to Inc., the Wall Street Journal, and Harvard Business Review. Previously, he was CMO of Deloitte Consulting and at Starwood Hotels & Resorts, and CEO of YaYa media. He lives in Los Angeles and New York.

Book excerpt: THE MUST-READ BOOK FOR ENGLAND'S EURO 2024 JOURNEY The definitive, behind-the-scenes account of England's journey from no-hopers to genuine contenders. Under the stewardship of Gareth Southgate and captained by Harry Kane, England will arrive in Germany as favourites to win Euro 2024 and finally end all those trophy-less years of hurt. It's taken for granted that England are now considered serious challengers at major football tournaments but prior to Southgate, this wasn't the case. 'Golden generations' came and went, with club rivalries and big egos ensuring that England camps had a fractured, toxic atmosphere where performances on the pitch paled in comparison to their club successes. So, how did we get here? Dear England: The Real Story of the Three Lions Rebirth delves into Southgate's turbulent journey to being hired as England manager, to his emergence as a waistcoated cult figure and becoming the country's most successful manager since Sir Alf Ramsey. Award-winning football writers Jonathan Northcroft and Rob Draper have had extraordinary access to the England team during Southgate's tenure and take us behind the scenes as they interview key backroom staff and players, including Gareth Southgate, Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Declan Rice, John Stones, Bukayo Saka, Dan Ashworth, Martin Glenn, Steve Cooper, Jesse Lingard, Danny Rose, Wayne Rooney, Gary Neville and many more, to give the complete account of the highs and lows of Southgate's reign and the sea change that took place throughout the entire England set up. For the first time, this is the real story of England's evolution both on and off the pitch, revealing how Southgate transformed a failing culture and empowered young people to write their own history.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's the reason why spending time on Facebook makes us feel sad and lonely. Why expensive name-brand medicines provide better pain relief than the generic stuff, even if they share the same ingredients. And why a hospital room with a good view speeds up recovery from surgery. The truth is, the way we think about ourselves and the world around us dramatically impacts our happiness, health, how fast or slow we age, and even how long we live. In fact, people with a positive mindset about aging live on average 7.5 years longer than those without. That might sound alarming to those of us who struggle to see the bright side, but the good news is we can make surprisingly simple changes or small shifts to how we think, feel, and act that will really pay off. In The Positive Shift: Mastering Mindset to Improve Happiness, Health, and Longevity, Dr. Catherine Sanderson breaks down the science of thought and shows how our mindset—or thought pattern—exerts a substantial influence on our psychological and physical health. Most important, this book demonstrates how, no matter what our natural tendency, with practice we can make minor tweaks in our mindset that will improve the quality—and longevity—of our life. Combining cutting-edge research from the fields of psychology, neuroscience, and medicine, as well as vivid real-world examples of the power of mindset, The Positive Shift gives readers practical and easy strategies for changing maladaptive thought patterns and behaviors so they can live longer, happier lives. These behaviors include: • Appreciating nature, with actions as simple as eating lunch outside • Giving to others, like volunteering • Spending money on experiences, not possessions Living your best life is truly mind over matter. Believe in yourself and rethink your way to a happier reality.

Through the Dennis’ often-humorous storytelling, Seventh-Inning Stretch hopes to create an emotional response from the reader then offers biblical anecdotes to inspire the reader to acknowledge and appreciate the people God placed in their own life. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of military ethics has generally been attentive to emerging trends in modern warfare. Cyber, robotics and AI, for example, have inspired an abundant and flourishing literature. One trend, however, has been largely overlooked: the emergence of special operations as a prominent instrument of statecraft. Drawing extensively on historical cases and first-hand experience, the authors of this book call attention to qualities inherent in special operations – and special operators – that challenge the moral framework which has long informed conventional military operations. Moral theorists will find this analysis provocative, while practitioners – those who conduct or oversee special operations and have an interest in the moral wellbeing of special operators – can put the authors' insights to practical use. Those who simply view with fascination the opaque world of special operations will find this book illuminating.
