Book excerpt: The authors here provide a detailed treatment of the design of robust adaptive controllers for nonlinear systems with uncertainties. They employ a new tool based on the ideas of system immersion and manifold invariance. New algorithms are delivered for the construction of robust asymptotically-stabilizing and adaptive control laws for nonlinear systems. The methods proposed lead to modular schemes that are easier to tune than their counterparts obtained from Lyapunov redesign.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph shows the reader how to avoid the burdens of sensor cost, reduced internal physical space, and system complexity in the control of AC motors. Many applications fields—electric vehicles, wind- and wave-energy converters and robotics, among them—will benefit. Sensorless AC Electric Motor Control describes the elimination of physical sensors and their replacement with observers, i.e., software sensors. Robustness is introduced to overcome problems associated with the unavoidable imperfection of knowledge of machine parameters—resistance, inertia, and so on—encountered in real systems. The details of a large number of speed- and/or position-sensorless ideas for different types of permanent-magnet synchronous motors and induction motors are presented along with several novel observer designs for electrical machines. Control strategies are developed using high-order, sliding-mode and quasi-continuous-sliding-mode techniques and two types of observer–controller schemes based on backstepping and sliding-mode techniques are described. Experimental results validate the performance of these observer and controller configurations with test trajectories of significance in difficult sensorless-AC-machine problems. Control engineers working with AC motors in a variety of industrial environments will find the space-and-cost-saving ideas detailed in Sensorless AC Electric Motor Control of much interest. Academic researchers and graduate students from electrical, mechanical and control-engineering backgrounds will be able to see how advanced theoretical control can be applied in meaningful real systems.

Book excerpt: L'OBJET DE CETTE THESE EST L'ETUDE ET LA VALIDATION EXPERIMENTALE DE DEUX STRATEGIES DE COMMANDE NUMERIQUE DE LA MACHINE ASYNCHRONE : LA COMMANDE LINEAIRE ET LA COMMANDE PAR RETOUR D'ETAT NON LINEAIRE. LA METHODE LINEAIRE, SE BASANT SUR L'HYPOTHESE DE LA SEPARATION DES MODES ELECTRIQUE (RAPIDE) ET MECANIQUE (LENT), OFFRE DES RESULTATS SATISFAISANTS TANT QUE CETTE HYPOTHESE EST JUSTIFIEE. D'AUTRE PART, LA VARIATION DES PARAMETRES, TELS QUE LES RESISTANCES STATORIQUE ET ROTORIQUE DE LA MACHINE, NECESSITE, EN PLUS DE LEUR IDENTIFICATION EN TEMPS REEL, LA MISE AU POINT D'UNE COMMANDE ADAPTATIVE AFIN DE MAINTENIR LES PERFORMANCES PREDEFINIES POUR LE SYSTEME. DANS LE CAS DE LA COMMANDE NON LINEAIRE OU LES DYNAMIQUES MECANIQUE ET ELECTRIQUE SONT EGALEMENT CONSIDEREES, DEUX BOUCLES DE REGULATION SONT UTILISEES : UNE BOUCLE DE VITESSE ET UNE BOUCLE DE FLUX. AVEC CETTE NOUVELLE APPROCHE, LE PROBLEME DE LA LIMITATION DU COURANT ALIMENTANT L'ENSEMBLE CONVERTISSEUR-MACHINE EST RECONSIDERE. PAR AILLEURS, LA COMMANDE NON LINEAIRE DANS LE REPERE FIXE DU STATOR MONTRE UNE MEILLEURE ROBUSTESSE VIS-A-VIS DE LA VARIATION DE LA CONSTANTE DE TEMPS ROTORIQUE T R EN COMPARAISON AVEC LES COMMANDES LINEAIRE ET NON LINEAIRE DANS LE REPERE DU CHAMP TOURNANT. DE PLUS, MEME SI LA COMMANDE NON LINEAIRE NECESSITE AUSSI UNE IDENTIFICATION DE T R, CELLE-CI PERMET DE SE PASSER DE LA COMMANDE ADAPTATIVE PUISQUE LA CONNAISSANCE DE CE PARAMETRE SUFFIT POUR ASSURER UN DECOUPLAGE PARFAIT DES BOUCLES DE VITESSE ET DE FLUX. EN EFFET, UNE FOIS DECOUPLEES, LES BOUCLES DEVIENNENT INDEPENDANTES DE T R GRACE A UN CHOIX ADEQUAT DES CORRECTEURS. CE CHOIX AMELIORE EGALEMENT LA ROBUSTESSE VIS-A-VIS DE LA MECONNAISSANCE DE LA RESISTANCE STATORIQUE.

Book excerpt: Computational Methods for the Innovative Design of Electrical Devices is entirely focused on the optimal design of various classes of electrical devices. Emerging new methods, like e.g. those based on genetic algorithms, are presented and applied in the design optimization of different devices and systems. Accordingly, the solution to field analysis problems is based on the use of finite element method, and analytical methods as well. An original aspect of the book is the broad spectrum of applications in the area of electrical engineering, especially electrical machines. This way, traditional design criteria of conventional devices are revisited in a critical way, and some innovative solutions are suggested. In particular, the optimization procedures developed are oriented to three main aspects: shape design, material properties identification, machine optimal behaviour. Topics covered include: • New parallel finite-element solvers • Response surface method • Evolutionary computing • Multiobjective optimization • Swarm intelligence • MEMS applications • Identification of magnetic properties of anisotropic laminations • Neural networks for non-destructive testing • Brushless DC motors, transformers • Permanent magnet disc motors, magnetic separators • Magnetic levitation systems
