This book was released on 2018-11-16 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents a psychobiographical story of John F. Kennedy, Jr. In reality, psychobiography is psychological biography—the intensive psychological study of an individual of historic significance within a sociocultural-historical context. It covers JFK Jr.’s search for identity and purpose, and the depths and vibrancy of his personality. The author approaches the life of JFK, Jr. as a psychologist and psychobiographer with the goal of understanding the workings of John’s mind; his inner feelings, fears, hopes, and desires perhaps not visible on the surface. Presented in four parts, Part One explores the death and legacy of John F. Kennedy, Jr. in a psychological and social context. His life and place in history is introduced, and the conditions around his death are deconstructed and examined. Psychological theories used to frame and understand Johns’ psychological development are briefly introduced, and his ethnic and religious influences are discussed. Part Two tells the story of John F. Kennedy, Jr.’s life in a somewhat chronological order. Important events and relationships in John’s life are discussed with respect to early childhood, early schooling, high school and college years, law school study, and his work as an Assistant District Attorney for Manhattan, including his co-founding of George magazine and his life with Carolyn Bessette. Part Three speculates on the future of John’s professional career and his marriage had the couple lived a full life. Emerging in this part is a strong impression that John was destined for a life in politics and that he would have succeeded in this quest. John’s marriage to Caroline Bessette and the possible directions of their partnership is analyzed. Borrowing from quantitative research methods in personality psychology, JFK Jr.’s personality traits on a popular and well-validated measure of personality is assessed. His personality profile is then compared to select U.S. presidents throughout history. Part Four provides additional theoretical and research methods information. The leading theories of personality and psychosocial development first introduced in Part One are expanded. Finally, ethical issues related to John’s psychobiography are explored and discussed. Additionally, the illustrations and tables supplement the text in exemplifying relevant data. This book will be an insightful resource to address unanswered questions about JFK Jr.’s life and potential future had he lived a full life.

Book excerpt: Unforeseen and precipitous violence is a reality of the times we live in, but it has always been a reality in the mental health profession. The main premise of this book is to make art therapists aware of the unpredictable violence that may occur in their day-to-day work with clients and the presence of potential danger. The author stresses the importance of preventive measures to ensure safety. The preface describes the horrific event the author witnessed and her realization that psychotherapy is a dangerous profession. The first chapter sets the stage for the exploration of mass murders, violence, creativity, and mental illness. Chapter 2 provides framework for the cultural context concerning the contemporary societal and cultural landscape within which mass murders exist. Major changes in mental health laws are discussed, including the individual versus community rights in mental health systems. Chapter 3 is a brief history of the treatment of violence in the United States mental health system. Gun violence, the stigma of mental illness, and the threat assessment in schools are explored. Chapter 4 examines art, violence, and mental illness, including historic artistic figures in which violence and/or mental illness was an issue. The artwork of serial killers such as Adolf Hitler, the psychiatrically institutionalized artist Martin Ramirez, and the Outsider artist Henry Darger are discussed. The author also describes her own experience as an expert witness for the trial of serial killer Eric Leonard. Chapter 5 displays the author's mass murderers’ artwork with a brief description of each event. Chapter 6 depicts the mass murders that occurred in the United States, October 2017 through September 2018. Chapter 7 portrays a reaction to the Marjorie Stone Douglas school shooting and the essay evoked by this tragedy. Chapter 8 offers practical suggestions to help art therapists find assistance and support in a dangerous practice. Safety orientation in art therapy education programs and job orientation are provided. Chapter 9 discusses additional practical suggestions for art therapists with help and support in a dangerous practice and culture. Book excerpt: Dance/Movement Therapists in Action fosters awareness of the living body, honors diverse ways of working, and leads toward creative expression and integration. This edited text, written by authors with exemplary credentials, spans and illuminates a breadth of investigative inquiry approaches and models to all students, clinicians, and researchers interested in dance/movement therapy (DMT) research. The text highlights two basic research frameworks-quantitative (objective) and qualitative (interpretative)-including their underlying philosophic and theoretical tenets. The authors' goal has been to create a comprehensible, accessible book that is readable and engaging: one that contains accepted research protocols in conjunction with practical information written in "nontechnical" terms. Many examples are incorporated throughout the text to clarify and amplify each of the various research options. A spectrum of research alternatives are presented that can inform clinical practice, inspire clinicians and students, and guide further research inquiry. These chapters hold a wealth of information and examples that will be of particular use and interest to clinicians and were conceived and written with practitioners in mind-for example, one featuring the use of movement observation scales for DMT research and clinical practice, and one on using research results to inform clinical practice. A completely new chapter on embodied descriptive and interpretive methods in DMT research also has been added. This volume will afford dance/movement therapists the tools to conduct research related to both clinical practice and academic inquiry.

Group therapy represents the most efficient utilization of the scarce resource of mental health interventions. Online settings dramatically increase the dissemination of this approach. This book identifies the diverse challenges and suggests solutions in remote group therapy for specific therapeutic approaches such as psychodynamic, relational, psychodrama, CBT, ACT, and group supervision. The contributing authors explore specific issues that anyone who conducts groups online should be aware of. Using a group therapy lens, this book develops further the ideas and areas explored in the authors’ previous books Theory and Practice of Online Therapy and Advances in Online Therapy.
