Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gnosis means knowledge. But we are not referring to just any knowledge. Gnosis is knowledge which produces a great transformation in those who receive it. Knowledge capable of nothing less than waking up man and helping him to escape from the prison in which he finds himself. That is why Gnosis has been so persecuted throughout the course of history, because it is knowledge considered dangerous for the religious and political authorities who govern mankind from the shadows. Every time this religion, absolutely different from the rest, appears before man, the other religions unite to try to destroy or hide it again. Primordial Gnosis is the original Gnosis, true Gnosis, eternal Gnosis, Gnostic knowledge in its pure form. Due to multiple persecutions, Primordial Gnosis has been fragmented, distorted and hidden.

Book Synopsis Weak Foundations by : Héctor Lindo-Fuentes
Download or read book Weak Foundations written by Héctor Lindo-Fuentes and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Héctor Lindo-Fuentes provides the first in-depth economic history of El Salvador during the crucial decades of the nineteenth century. Before independence in 1821, the isolated territory that we now call El Salvador was a subdivision of the Captaincy General of Guatemala and had only 250,000 inhabitants. Both indigo production, the source of wealth for the country's tiny elite and its main link to the outside world, and subsistence agriculture, which engaged the majority of the population, involved the use of agricultural techniques that had not changed for two hundred years. By 1900, however, El Salvador's primary export was coffee, a crop that demanded relatively sophisticated agricultural techniques and the support of an elaborate internal finance and marketing network. The coffee planters came to control the state apparatus, writing laws that secured their access to land, imposing taxes that paid for a transportation network designed to service their plantations, building ports to expedite coffee exports, and establishing a banking system to finance the new crop. Weak Foundations shows how the parallel process of state-building and expansion of the coffee industry resulted in the formation of an oligarchy that was to rule El Salvador during the twentieth century. Historians and economists interested in the "routes to underdevelopment" followed by Latin American and other "Third World" countries will find this analysis thorough and provocative.

Book Synopsis Mexico's Indigenous Communities by : Ethelia Ruiz Medrano
Download or read book Mexico's Indigenous Communities written by Ethelia Ruiz Medrano and published by University Press of Colorado. This book was released on 2011-11-15 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rich and detailed account of indigenous history in central and southern Mexico from the sixteenth to the twenty-first centuries, Mexico's Indigenous Communities is an expansive work that destroys the notion that Indians were victims of forces beyond their control and today have little connection with their ancient past. Indian communities continue to remember and tell their own local histories, recovering and rewriting versions of their past in light of their lived present. Ethelia Ruiz Medrano focuses on a series of individual cases, falling within successive historical epochs, that illustrate how the practice of drawing up and preserving historical documents-in particular, maps, oral accounts, and painted manuscripts-has been a determining factor in the history of Mexico's Indian communities for a variety of purposes, including the significant issue of land and its rightful ownership. Since the sixteenth century, numerous Indian pueblos have presented colonial and national courts with historical evidence that defends their landholdings. Because of its sweeping scope, groundbreaking research, and the author's intimate knowledge of specific communities, Mexico's Indigenous Communities is a unique and exceptional contribution to Mexican history. It will appeal to students and specialists of history, indigenous studies, ethnohistory, and anthropology of Latin America and Mexico

Book Synopsis Silver Wonders from the East by : Maria Menshikova
Download or read book Silver Wonders from the East written by Maria Menshikova and published by Ben Uri Gallery & Museum. This book was released on 2006 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Filigree is a remarkable method in jewellery-making in which very pure precious metal is drawn into extremely fine threads. These threads are then ingeniously inter-woven to produce almost transparent objects. This book presents for the first time the highlights from the magnificent and unique filigree collection in the State Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg. The principal centres of filigree were to be found in China, and Chinese filigree found its way to the countries which traded with China in the 16th and 17th centuries: Portugal, Spain, The Netherlands and England. Production centres also developed in India. The Hermitage collection has a large number of works in eastern filigree from the 17th and 18th centuries, mainly from China, India and Indonesia. The 17th-century Chinese pieces are in traditional Chinese style and are ornamented with traditional Chinese motifs: peoonies, lotus flowers and plum blossom. The works from India were made to order for clients such as the Catholic Church, and are therefore European in form.Among the highlights of the collection are the two large toilet sets belonging to Catherine the Great, one from China and one from India. These are unique ensembles because over time comparable sets from other European courts have been sold, melted down or lost. Another object, the writing box of William of Orange, recently discovered in the Hermitage collection, provides an interesting link between the Russian and Dutch courts. The filigree collection of the tsars is the only royal filigree collection to have been preserved in its entirety, yet has received little scholarly attention to date. This publication will contribute to the further study of this unique collection and the issues surrounding it, and will introduce a new audience to the wonders of this Eastern silver.

This book was released on 2012-12-13 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
