Book Synopsis Historia mínima de Centroamérica by : Rodolfo Pastor
Download or read book Historia mínima de Centroamérica written by Rodolfo Pastor and published by El Colegio de Mexico AC. This book was released on 2011 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Families in War and Peace by : Sarah C. Chambers
Download or read book Families in War and Peace written by Sarah C. Chambers and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2015-05-29 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Families in War and Peace Sarah C. Chambers places gender analysis and family politics at the center of Chile's struggle for independence and its subsequent state building. Linking the experiences of both prominent and more humble families to Chile's political and legal history, Chambers argues that matters such as marriage, custody, bloodlines, and inheritance were crucial to Chile's transition from colony to nation. She shows how men and women extended their familial roles to mobilize kin networks for political ends, both during and after the Chilean revolution. From the conflict's end in 1823 until the 1850s, the state adopted the rhetoric of paternal responsibility along with patriarchal authority, which became central to the state building process. Chilean authorities, Chambers argues, garnered legitimacy by enacting or enforcing paternalist laws on property restitution, military pensions, and family maintenance allowances, all of which provided for diverse groups of Chileans. By acting as the fathers of the nation, they aimed to reconcile the "greater Chilean family" and form a stable government and society.

Book Synopsis Sexuality and the Unnatural in Colonial Latin America by : Zeb Tortorici
Download or read book Sexuality and the Unnatural in Colonial Latin America written by Zeb Tortorici and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2016-02-09 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sexuality and the Unnatural in Colonial Latin America brings together a broad community of scholars to explore the history of illicit and alternative sexualities in Latin AmericaÕs colonial and early national periods. Together the essays examine how "the unnaturalÓ came to inscribe certain sexual acts and desires as criminal and sinful, including acts officially deemed to be Òagainst natureÓÑsodomy, bestiality, and masturbationÑalong with others that approximated the unnaturalÑhermaphroditism, incest, sex with the devil, solicitation in the confessional, erotic religious visions, and the desecration of holy images. In doing so, this anthology makes important and necessary contributions to the historiography of gender and sexuality. Amid the growing politicized interest in broader LGBTQ movements in Latin America, the essays also show how these legal codes endured to make their way into post-independence Latin America.Ê

This book was released on 2015-10-15 with total page 964 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the publication of the still very valuable Biblioteca histórica de la filología by Cipriano Muñoz y Manzano, conde de la Viñaza (Madrid, 1893), our knowledge of the history of the study of the Spanish language has grown considerably, and most manuscript and secondary sources had never been tapped before Hans-Josef Niederehe of the University of Trier courageously undertook the task to bring together any available bibliographical information together with much more recent research findings, scattered in libraries, journals and other places. BICRES I covered the period from the early beginnings to 1600), followed by BICRES II (1601–1700), BICRES III (1701–1800), and together with Miguel Ángel Esparza Torres of Madrid there followed BICRES IV (1801 to 1860). Now, the fifth volume, has become available, covering the years from 1861 to 1899. Access to the bibliographical information of altogether 5,272 titles is facilitated by several detailed indexes, such as a short title index, a listing of printers, publishers and places of production, and an author index. More than twenty years of research in the major libraries of Spain and other European countries have gone into this unique work — relative sources of the Americas have also been covered — making it exhaustive source for any serious scholar of any possible aspect of the Spanish language.
