Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this study was to evaluate the cold-recycling process and to determine the effectiveness of the three types of rejuvenating agents used in the cold-recycle mix. Additionally, two types of covers were used and were compared to determine their ability to seal the cold-recycled pavement. The study has shown cold-recycling to be an effective and valuable method for rehabilitating asphalt pavements and retarding reflective cracking.

Book Synopsis Cold-recycled Bituminous Concrete Using Bituminous Materials by : Jon A. Epps
Download or read book Cold-recycled Bituminous Concrete Using Bituminous Materials written by Jon A. Epps and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1990 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to pavement designers, construction engineers, and others interested in economical methods for reconstructing or rehabilitating bituminous pavements. Information is provided on the processes and procedures used by a number of states to recycle asphalt pavements in place without application of heat. Since 1975 a growing number of state highway agencies have reconstructed or rehabilitated asphalt pavements by recycling the old pavement in place. This report of the Transportation Research Board describes the processes used for cold in-place recycling, including construction procedures, mix designs, mixture properties, performance, and specifications.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report documents the construction and performance of hot asphalt concrete recycling on three projects located on Route I-5 at Weed, Route I-80 at Gold Run and Route I-10 at Blythe. In addition, various cold and one hot surface recycled projects are discussed. Also, information is presented on recycling pavements containing various fabrics and use of the nuclear gage to determine asphalt contents for recycling. Two California test methods for design of recycled mixture are presented, one for hot and one for cold recycling.

Download or read book Cold Bituminous Pavement Recycling Us-56, Pawnee County, Kansas written by Glenn A. Fager and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study was undertaken between 1977 and 1991 to construct and monitor some cold recycle sections. Five different test sections and one control section were completed in 1977 and monitored for cracking for approximately 14 years. The control section consisted of widening the roadway to 24 ft with hot mix, then placing a normal 4 in. hot mix overlay. The five test sections consisted of cold recycling approximately 6 1/2 in. of old pavement using various additives (MC-800, Portland Cement, and AC-7), followed by a 3 in. hot mix overlay. In 1991 the project was again overlayed which terminated the monitoring period. The cracking in each section had progressed to 100% of its original condition, thereby allowing determination of the life of each section. A cost analysis was completed but was based only on the amount of cracking in each section. The report concluded that the 6 1/2 in. cold recycle with a 3 in. hot mix overlay was cost effective in reducing the amount of cracking when compared to a 4 in. hot mix overlay.
