Why would a beautiful, talented doctor like Helen Moore want to come to a remote part of England to work part-time in a village doctor’s office and adopt and raise a child on her own? As a single father, he adored his son, but hadn’t chosen to raise him alone. Nick was certain of one thing: he had to find out why this devoted single mother had mothballed her emotions. Book excerpt: A man discovers that love can show up when you least expect it—and in a much different form—in this piping-hot romance from the author of Due Diligence and Just Business. Brian Keppler, owner of Ground N'At, the coffee shop beneath SR Anderson Consulting, doesn't have time for a relationship. His most recent girlfriend broke up with him because he'd become married to his shop, which is falling apart without his favorite barista, Justin. As he struggles to stay afloat, the arrival of handsome British high-tech whiz Robert Ancroft becomes another complication. Rob quickly becomes a fixture at the shop with his sharp wit and easy charm, and Brian soon finds himself looking forward more and more to Rob's visits—to the point where his heart skips a beat when he walks in. But will Brian be able to come to terms with his previously unexplored sexual identity and find happiness now that he has a chance? Praise for the romances of Anna Zabo See where it all began with a special excerpt from Anna Zabo's Takeover. "Zabo offers an engaging narrative that ropes readers in from the beginning, addressing issues of trust, love, sex, and homophobia while also crafting potent sex scenes."—Library Journal (starred review) "A deliciously erotic and emotional romance that I would highly recommend even if you're not normally a BDSM fan."—The Book Vixen "This book was phenomenal. Something about the story line and these two men just resonated with me and I really loved their story."—Smitten With Reading

Book excerpt: It's the early 1900s in still-Victorian Bergen, Norway. Little Swanhilde Holmboe has never felt especially loved by her fat, selfish mother Sophie, who also makes her sweet but inept husband, Martin Holmboe, unhappy, by her constant cravings for more money. When the father makes a disastrous investment, hoping to please Sophie, she divorces him to marry her successful distant cousin, Henry Krogh. Young Swanhilde makes the best of it, yearning for the day she's grown and can get At fourteen, the girl, now nicknamed Bus for her Buster Brown mop of blonde hair, is nearly seduced by her stepfather and flees to share a flat with her older brothers, Johann and Wilhelm Holmboe. Eric Andersen, handsome in his Navy uniform, and the spirited Bus meet at an enchanted Christmas party in 1918. Eric has his own family skeleton, a scandalous divorce by his father, Hans, from his pretty wife, Charlotte-Emily, after learning she has slept with his handsome brother Thorvald. They fall in love and are married the following June. While on their idyllic Sognefjord honeymoon, an offer comes via his father, for Eric to become director of a new bank in Mexico. The newlyweds set out for New York in elegant first class on the liner Stavangerfjord. The Mexican bank is unexpectedly nationalized and the young Andersens cool their heels in New York, exhausting their finances, before another opportunity arises through Danish businessman Colonel Borg de Rasmussen, one of a group of other city Scandinavian immigrants. Before long the young couple is bound for Casper, Wyoming, where Eric is to be in charge of the drilling of an oil well at the big Salt Creek strike near there. The money for the lease has been raised by Hans Andersen and his wealthy Christiania cronies. The venture ends in a dry hole, and Bus, now pregnant, and Eric head for California. Los Angeles is entering a tremendous decade of prosperity, and Eric quickly finds work as an accountant for a company supplying props and costumes to the burgeoning film industry. The next few years are good ones, marred only by the news that Hans Andersen has committed suicide in the woods outside Christiania following a fatal tunnel collapse in the subway project he has been overseeing. Also, Alf Andersen, Eric's brother, turns up one day at his brothers Spanish style Inglewood home, on the run from Canada after embezzling $100,000 there. By the mid-twenties, ambitious Eric Andersen is riding high (though his brother has been nabbed and sent to jail). He has a new home, a good job, a brand new Packard, a growing stock portfolio and two young daughters. Julia Andersen, the six-year old, is a blonde angel, smart as a whip. Firstborn Nora Andersen, now seven, is slower and has never been robust. In 1927 however, the prop company is about to fold, as many movie companies, inspired by the big profits already garnered by the first talkie, form their own costume departments. The problem is solved for the owner, Leo Laemmler, when the building burns down, and Eric finds himself jobless. Times are still good and he takes a position as a mortgage loan officer with a bank, deciding at the same time, and against his wifes wishes, to plow every dollar he can into the upward-spiraling stock market. The October, 1929 crash wipes him out. He decides to head back to New York, on news from Borg de Rasmussen that a new formula ships' paint will be a surefire success, and that The venture fails because of the paints cost and, like millions of others, Eric is now seriously out of work. A kind Norwegian family puts the Andersens up in their crude, cold attic in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, where many Norwegians have settled. To add to the difficulties, Bus is pregnant once more. In November, 1932, at the height of the Depression, little Bertel Andersen is born. Roosevelt has just been elected president and a faint hope of relief from the dreadful times has been raised. Eric pays the hospital bill

A young man from England’s rural West Country, he was thrust into a new world for which he was completely unprepared and which he found utterly bewildering. Tom gives an insight into the life of an English teacher in this most fascinating of countries and how he found his feet teaching students aged two to ninety-one. From sitting in a robot restaurant watching a giant metal triceratops firing multicoloured laser beams, to the quietude of secluded and ancient mountain-top shrines on remote Japanese islands, this is a story of coming of age in a beguiling metropolis, of culture shock, faux pas, joy, hilarity, horror and the steepest of learning curves. Earthquakes, hedgehog cafes, bathing with the yakuza, love hotels, typhoons, geisha, nuclear fallout, fascists, festivals, temples, bullet trains, karaoke, samurai swords, sushi and sumo. This memoir has it all.

Book excerpt: Bridges the gap between global farmers and fishermen and American consumers America now imports twice as much food as it did a decade ago. What does this increased reliance on imported food mean for the people around the globe who produce our food? Kelsey Timmerman set out on a global quest to meet the farmers and fisherman who grow and catch our food, and also worked alongside them: loading lobster boats in Nicaragua, splitting cocoa beans with a machete in Ivory Coast, and hauling tomatoes in Ohio. Where Am I Eating? tells fascinating stories of the farmers and fishermen around the world who produce the food we eat, explaining what their lives are like and how our habits affect them. This book shows how what we eat affects the lives of the people who produce our food. Through compelling stories, explores the global food economy including workers rights, the global food crisis, fair trade, and immigration. Author Kelsey Timmerman has spoken at close to 100 schools around the globe about his first book, Where Am I Wearing: A Global Tour of the Countries, Factories, and People That Make Our Clothes He has been featured in the Financial Times and has discussed social issues on NPR's Talk of the Nation and Fox News Radio Where Am I Eating? does not argue for or against the globalization of food, but personalizes it by observing the hope and opportunity, and sometimes the lack thereof, which the global food economy gives to the world's poorest producers.

Book excerpt: Mackenzie “Kiki” Forbes finds herself in a pickle. Either become her snarky sister’s nanny, or move halfway across the country to work as assistant-to-the-stylist of a country music star. Neither job sounds ideal, although bedazzling cowboy boots may be a hell of a lot more interesting than ironing her brother-in-law’s underwear. But life on the road as the errand coffee girl for a sold-out tour leaves much to be desired. That is, until Kiki meets her sinfully sexy new boss’s boss… Tatum Reed’s career is flying high. He’s up for country music’s Entertainer of the Year and he’s headed out on a nationwide sold-out tour. So why does he feel like it’s all about to implode? His superstar ex-girlfriend seems determined to make his life difficult, his opening act is a handful, and the new girl on his tour, the feisty brunette, is quickly getting under his skin. In this crazy world of showbusiness Tatum needs to learn who he can trust, but that doesn’t come easily, because the one person who holds all the cards may just throw them down and walk away. Life in the public eye is never all it’s cracked up to be, which has both Kiki and Tatum questioning what they’re really doing with their careers, and their hearts.
