Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The intricate relationship between food, city and architecture, spanning from ancient civilizations to the present, serves as a focal point for interdisciplinary discourse. This book delves into a diverse set of cases throughout history in which processes related to food significantly influenced architectural or urban designs. This book delineates three spatial levels — city, home and intermediate spaces — illuminating their dynamic interplay within the construct of a continually evolving “food space." Featuring 12 contributions from Mediterranean Europe, this publication explores historical legacies and contemporary challenges. Divided into urban-territorial and architectural scales, it offers nuanced insights into urban dynamics, domestic life and gastronomic tourism. Supported by a prestigious introductory study, this research advances a comprehensive understanding of food's role in shaping urban environments. Through the chapters of this book, those interested in cultural studies of food, urban history and architecture will be able to reflect on our relationship with food and its processes, and how it affects the way we live and design our cities and their architectures.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is one of the first to link company law to the law of succession by concentrating on family businesses. It shows that, to understand the legal framework underlying the daily operations of family businesses, one needs legal analysis, empirical data, psychological and sociological knowledge. The book works on the premise that, since many businesses have been founded by families, practitioners need to develop an understanding of the legal background of such businesses and build up experience to be able to create contracts, trusts, foundations and other legal mechanisms to give shape to systems and procedures for the transfer of shares and control within the family. Comparing the national legal order, techniques, and mechanisms in a range of countries, the book examines parallel developments in these fields of law across the world. Finally, it demonstrates the room for companies, shareholders and the members of a family to develop individual solutions within the legal framework for transferring businesses and shares to the next generation.

Book excerpt: This book highlights the latest improvements in cadastre with examples and case studies from various parts of the world. Authors from different continents, in association with national and international organizations and societies, present the most comprehensive forum to date for cadastre, offering a broad overview of land administration and contemporary perspectives on current research and developments, including surveying, land management, remote sensing and geo-information sciences. Cadastre is a universal concept and is defined as “the work of officially mapping and systemically registering the areas, borders and values of all kinds of land and property”. It is normally a parcel-based and up-to-date land information system containing a record of interests in land with rights, restrictions and responsibilities. It may be established for fiscal and legal purposes, to assist in management for better planning and other administrative purposes, and to enable sustainable development and environmental protection. As such, “cadastre” is an important public inventory documenting the records of ownership, bordering and responsibility regarding the land with “title deeds” to parcels and answering the questions of “whose land, where and how much”. The materials included in the book can support courses at universities and related training institutions worldwide, and will greatly improve readers’ understanding of the scholarly fields involved in cadastre: land registration and management, surveying and mapping, and geo-information management, land governance, land taxation and public administration etc.

This book was released on 2012-09-18 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professor John Hills' report on fuel poverty (March 2012, DECC) found that the problem of fuel poverty was being measured in the wrong way. Proper measurement is integral in designing effective polices to counter fuel poverty. This consultation looks at changing the approach to measurement (currently based on whether a household would need to spend more than 10% of its income on energy to keep warm). Section 1 sets out the background to the Hills Review and summarises its main findings. Section 2 focuses on the proposal for a new definition (the Low Income High Costs indicator) and also covers the recommended changes to the methodology used to calculate the fuel poverty statistics. The proposed changes raises questions about how a new definition fits with t he current target, which is set out in the Warm Homes and Energy Conservation Act 2000. Section 3 of this paper considers whether the definition and target should be aligned and how to achieve that. Finally, section 4 considers next steps. The Government intends to publish a refreshed fuel poverty strategy early in 2013 incorporating the new definition.
