Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book on 'Coactions and Competition in Plants' worldwide. It was translated from Czech language, because the English is read in most countries of the world, hence, the allelopathy scientists would be able to know the phenomenon of coactions and competition in plants. The allelopathic interactions in coactions and competition in higher plants greatly influences the productivity of field crops, fruits trees and forest trees in natural and managed ecosystems. In tropical and subtropical countries, many crops are grown in crop mixtures, owing to their several advantages. Likewise, in natural forests, many tree spp. grow together, besides many herbs and shrubs grow underneath their canopy. Now due to increased human population, the farmers to meet the diverse requirements of their families, grows several crops with trees, called Agroforestry. However, little information is available about the allelopathic interactions in coactions and competition in the above agro-ecosystems. Worldwide, it is the only book available on these important aspects. This book consists of 8 Chapters viz., (i) Basic principles, (ii) Competition, (iii) Secondary compounds, (iv) Non-contact coactions, (v) Antagonistic contact coactions, (vi) Synergic contact coactions, (vii) Conclusions, (viii) References and Appendix. It is hoped, that this book will provide inspiration and in-depth knowledge of the coactions and competition in higher plants. This book will be very useful for the Researchers, Teachers and Students of Biosciences (Plant Ecology, Plant Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology) and Agricultural Sciences (Agronomy, Forestry etc).

Book excerpt: Plant Physiologists have to certainly sort out the insufluciency of consequential researches, genuinely required for getting higher productivity, opulence and sustainability of agriculture through outstandingly promising technologies to help improvement in metabolic boundaries necessitates mainly for abiotic stress factors. The aspiration is to make stronger the vital outcome of conscientious research coupled principally with thorough perceptions of underlying mechanisms of plant tolerance under changing environments. Nevertheless, appropriate strategies by relevant ideas of paramount importance could ensure food production under extremes of stressful conditions geographically varying from one place to another. The book entitled Plant Abiotic Stresses: Physiological Mechanisms, Tools and Regulation has substance for extending simple and applied researches for their rapid applications in agriculture besides broadening knowledge of the abiotic stress science far and beyond. On the other hand, with loo ming third decade, stress physiology research has almost surpassed the fundamentals globally and has been entirely intriguing to scrutinize the physiological and molecular bases of plant stress tolerance. At this decisive point in time, hopefully, this book, in part, could be a step forward in providing enough insight on stress causing multiple environmental components and to obtain favourable directions in several ways. All possible research initiatives have been sensibly included in exceptionally well written chapters by genuinely dedicated eminent contributors with a view to organize the burning theme of the present scenario being acknowledged resolutely by the world scientists.

Book excerpt: Sustainable agriculture is a rapidly growing field aiming at producing food and energy in a sustainable way for humans and their children. Sustainable agriculture is a discipline that addresses current issues such as climate change, increasing food and fuel prices, poor-nation starvation, rich-nation obesity, water pollution, soil erosion, fertility loss, pest control, and biodiversity depletion. Novel, environmentally-friendly solutions are proposed based on integrated knowledge from sciences as diverse as agronomy, soil science, molecular biology, chemistry, toxicology, ecology, economy, and social sciences. Indeed, sustainable agriculture decipher mechanisms of processes that occur from the molecular level to the farming system to the global level at time scales ranging from seconds to centuries. For that, scientists use the system approach that involves studying components and interactions of a whole system to address scientific, economic and social issues. In that respect, sustainable agriculture is not a classical, narrow science. Instead of solving problems using the classical painkiller approach that treats only negative impacts, sustainable agriculture treats problem sources. Because most actual society issues are now intertwined, global, and fast-developing, sustainable agriculture will bring solutions to build a safer world. This book series gathers review articles that analyze current agricultural issues and knowledge, then propose alternative solutions. It will therefore help all scientists, decision-makers, professors, farmers and politicians who wish to build a safe agriculture, energy and food system for future generations.

Book excerpt: The book summarizes present scientific knowledge in plant physiology with regards to plant production. The authors, mainly professors of plant physiology at agricultural universities in Czechoslovakia, present the individual fields of plant physiology with regard to the demands of agricultural practice and education of students and doctorani at these universities. The first chapters discuss metabolism ie. photosynthesis, respiration, mineral and heterotrophic nutrition, and water regime of plants. What follows is a discussion of the physiology of plant growth, development and movements, and finally resistance of plants against unfavourable abiotic and biotic effects. The book shows how to increase the yield of crops by manipulating photosynthesis and also studies the possible flow of photosynthetic products to the commercially valuable parts of the biomass. Rational plant production, however, cannot do without knowledge of plant nutrition and water regime as a theoretical basis for fertilization and irrigation. The reader will find this knowledge detailed as well as information about the ecological and physiological principles of the resistance of plants against drought, frost, heat, diseases and other unfavourable effects.
