The progress and deficiencies in achieving the Millennium Development Goals provided impetus to the intelligentsia and policymakers to map out the pertinent goals for a sustainable growth trajectory for humanity and the planet. The United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which was adopted in September 2015, took the shape of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 targets. In effect, the 17 Sustainable Development Goals focus on protecting the earth's life support systems for intra- and inter-generational equity and for development that is rooted in sustainability science. Attaining these goals is an uphill task; nevertheless, scientific knowledge, trans and interdisciplinary inquiries, concerted global action and capacity building would provide an enabling environment for achieving the SDGs. Having defined the general problem and impacts of climate change, the essay then turns into a discussion of climate crises more based on an enterprise level. The first part is about a critical assessment of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), in which recent literature of Banerjee (2007) and Levy & Spicer (2013) form the foundation. The second part deals with alternative model that are proposing to solve the current climate crisis in terms of political economy. For this purpose, recent contributions form Rockström et al. (2017) and Jackson (2009) were analysed. In conclusion, it appears that the only way to stop the climate change is through the revolution of energy. The goal is a worldwide energy supply exclusively from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydro power. This is primarily a task at governmental level, that is directed and enforced by UFCCC regulations. The climate change poses a major challenge to the global community that can, however, only be tackled together. Every individual can contribute to this and many little deeds together will make a difference. The essential point is that everyone is aware of this and is acting accordingly.

New markets for low-emission products and technologies are beginning to appear, but there are currently few regulatory drivers to assist their development. The impact of potential regulation on business will vary tremendously between companies and sectors. The fossil fuel and energy sectors fear the economics of action, while sectors such as insurance and agriculture fear the economics of inaction. Combined with the remaining uncertainties about what form climate change may take, corporate responses to reduce risks have to differentiate between sectors and have to be flexible. The Paris Agreement will replace the 1997 Kyoto Protocol which expires in 2020, and it creates legally binding obligations on the parties, based on their own bottom-up voluntary commitments to implement Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The codification of the climate change regime has advanced well, but the implementation of it remains uncertain. This book focuses on the implementation prospects of the Agreement, which is a challenge for all and will require a fully comprehensive burden- sharing framework. Parties need to meet their own NDCs, but also to finance and transfer technology to others who do not have enough. How equity- based and facilitative the process will be, is of crucial importance.
