Book Synopsis Critical Minerals, Sustainability, and the Energy Transition in the Global South by : Susan Nakanwagi
Download or read book Critical Minerals, Sustainability, and the Energy Transition in the Global South written by Susan Nakanwagi and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2024-11-14 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the relationship between efficient management of critical minerals and sustainability in the Global South, including Sub-Saharan Africa. Critical minerals are essential raw materials for the technologies that are pivotal in today's energy transition. However, critical mineral host states and communities face social, economic, ecological, political, technological, and governance injustices. The book contends that the criteria currently used in assessing criticality and critical mineral development do not fulfil the sustainable development ambitions of developing countries and that broader considerations must be taken into account to include the stakeholders involved as well as the spatial dimension of the critical mineral value chain. In particular, the book argues that the law must consider the broader context in which minerals become critical to particular processes. It positions this argument within the current context of climate change, the just energy transition, the minerals-energy nexus, and geopolitical tensions. By analysing the copper-cobalt value chain through case studies on DRC, Zambia, China, and the EU, the book provides new avenues for critical mineral development and acknowledges the necessity for sustainability amidst the exacerbated impacts of climate change. Addressing a key challenge of the global energy transition, the book argues for a just holistic framework, which includes parameters such as domestic value addition, human rights in business development, environmental sensitivity, the development of communication channels from remote marginalised communities to international policymakers, and the re-designing of criticality considerations beyond supply and economic aspects.
Book Synopsis Development-Oriented Corporate Social Responsibility: Volume 1 by : Michael Blowfield
Download or read book Development-Oriented Corporate Social Responsibility: Volume 1 written by Michael Blowfield and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-08 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Globalization and the professionalization of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) have led to a surge of CSR activities claiming to support development across the globe. In this two volume series, the chapters explore this claim through nuanced debate about the potentialities, limitations and threats of development-oriented CSR in the developing world at both the global and local levels. Volume 1 explores whether there is a genuine possibility for corporations to contribute to development through CSR activities. With corporate reach spreading into every corner of the globe, this is a timely contribution presenting cases from developing countries spanning multiple continents. It explores the multi-level and multi-stakeholder dynamics involved in shaping the complex interface between multinational corporations (MNCs) and possibilities for CSR-related development. The chapters highlight the potential for MNCs to spread best practice and complement the role of governments in bridging governance gaps and spearheading capacity building efforts. But they also highlights serious reservations, stemming from isolated assessments, limited appreciation of the complexities of context, and the permeation of a northern agenda that marginalizes local voices.Within the larger debate on the merits and evils of globalization, this volume captures the mixed record of MNCs in promoting effective development in those parts of the world where it is most needed. This important series will be the reference source for academics, practitioners, policy-makers and NGOs involved in development-oriented CSR.

Book Synopsis Implementing Rapid E-Learning Through Interactive Materials Development by : Santally, Mohammad Issack
Download or read book Implementing Rapid E-Learning Through Interactive Materials Development written by Santally, Mohammad Issack and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2023-07-24 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past, the process of developing an interactive digital learning resource required content developers, technology experts, and learning designers to work together. As such, the process was time consuming and expensive. Now there are new tools that do not require advanced mastery of ICTs for the development of digital learning resources. Such tools allow the reduction of costs and timelines of development. The rapid e-learning method helps to decentralize curriculum digitization and empower teachers to embrace technology to develop and share resources among peers. Implementing Rapid E-Learning Through Interactive Materials Development provides a relevant theoretical foundation for the design and development of interactive learning materials using the rapid e-learning method. It draws on research, case studies, and reports from different contextual applications of the methods, challenges, and learning experiences of students. Covering topics such as goal-oriented design, quality assurance, and rapid game development, this premier reference source is an essential resource for multimedia developers, IT professionals, learning designers, educators and administrators of both K-12 and higher education, pre-service teachers, teacher educators, librarians, researchers, and academicians.
