Book Synopsis Customary Law in Hungary by : Martyn Rady
Download or read book Customary Law in Hungary written by Martyn Rady and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2015-08-06 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first comprehensive treatment in any language of the history of customary law in Hungary, from the thirteenth to the twentieth centuries. Hungary's customary law was described by Stephen Werboczy in 1517 in the extensive law code known as the Tripartitum. As Werboczy explained, Hungarian law derived from the interplay of Romano-canonical law, statute, written instruments, and court judgments. It was also responsive, however, to popular conceptions of the law's content and application, as communicated through the lay membership of the kingdom's courts. Publication of the Tripartitum was intended to make the law more certain by fixing it in writing. Nevertheless, its text was customized by actual use, in the same way as the statute laws of the kingdom were adjusted as a consequence of court practice and of errors in their transmission. The reputation attaching to the Tripartitum and Hungary's insulation from the Roman Law Reception meant that the Tripartitum continued to retain authority until well into the nineteenth century. Attempts to replace it foundered and it was the principal text on which the courts and the schools relied, not only in Habsburg Hungary but also in Transylvania. Courts, nevertheless, continued to modify its provisions in the interests of rendering judgments that they deemed either to be right or in conformity with developing practices. Even after the establishment of a parliamentary form of government in the nineteenth century, a strong customary element attached to Hungarian law, which was amplified by the association of customary law with national traditions. The consequence was that Hungary maintained aspects of a customary law regime until the Communist period.
Book Synopsis Product Liability Law in Transition by : Magdalena Tulibacka
Download or read book Product Liability Law in Transition written by Magdalena Tulibacka and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume examines the evolution of Central European product liability systems, with particular reference to the effect of the implementation of the Product Liability Directive in the context of the recent enlargement of the EU. This book also provides a comparison of how product liability law has evolved in the socialist states, comparing it to developments taking place in the West. Using product liability law, this study offers a valuable insight into the necessary features and requirements of the harmonization of laws between the EU and post-socialist Europe. Predominantly legal in scope, it also takes account of the importance of extra-legal elements in law reform. As such, this book will be a valuable resource for those interested in European Law, as well as those working in the area of Consumer and Product Liability law.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first volume in a new series of European Yearbooks in Law and Sociology. As the Editorial Board we have considerable pleasure in being able to inaugurate this series, and to do so with a collection of articles from such distinguished contributors. For a number of years the need for a regular outlet for European work in law and sociology has been appreciated, and many individuals have co-operated in laying the foundations for this series. The we are preparatory work that was done has been most valuable. Equally delighted that the series is launched with the encouragement and backing of both the Research Committee on Sociology of Law of the International Sociological Association and the Institute of Sociology of Law for Europe. Indeed the current activities of the Research Committee and the recent establishment of the Institute, together with this series of Yearbooks, permit optimism that work in this field in Europe will progress and develop as never before. Whether this will happen does depend however, quite simply, on the nature of the research and writing that follows and the quality of work accomplished.
Book Synopsis Sisterhood Is Global by : Robin Morgan
Download or read book Sisterhood Is Global written by Robin Morgan and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2016-03-08 with total page 798 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A powerful and essential anthology that sheds light on the status of women throughout the world Hailed by Alice Walker as “one of the most important human documents of the century,” this collection of groundbreaking essays examines the global status of women’s experiences, from oppression to persecution. Originally published in 1984, the compilation features pieces written by a diverse set of powerful women—journalists, politicians, grassroots activists, and scholars—from seventy countries. Author Robin Morgan, a champion of women’s rights herself, expertly weaves these inspiring essays into one comprehensive feminist text. These compelling “herstories” contain thoroughly researched statistics on the status of women throughout the world. Each chapter focuses on a different country and includes data on education, government, marriage, motherhood, prostitution, rape, sexual harassment, and sexual preference. Sisterhood Is Global transcends political systems and geographical boundaries to unite women and their experiences in a way that remains unequalled, even decades after its first publication.
