They were inspired by the Holy Spirit and merely written down by myself. Scriptures are taken from the King James Version of the Bible. Many of these sermons were written in the very early hours of the morning. I would awaken and hurry to write the thought down before it escaped. God has no watch; but He has perfect timing. It is no coincidence that you are reading this description at this particular time. Somewhere in the book is a thought that God wants you to have. All credit is due Him. We hope this book will bless you. Until that glorious day when all His family is gathered together, we say God be with you.

This book passed my ultimate test-- "I didn't want it to end!""--R.L. Stine "Gods, shapeshifting tricksters and mortal lovers form the intersecting facets of Ellen Steiber's "A Rumor of Gems "in a contemporary setting at once strange and familiar. Fans of urban fantasy -- and gem lovers everywhere--will enjoy it!"--Jacqueline Carey "Steiber's prose is as multi-faceted, dazzling, and flawless as any gem."--Holly Black "City and mountains, shapeshifters and fashion designers, the god of Love and the god of Thieves, intrigue and supernatural danger," A Rumor of Gems" has them all--plus characters you really want to spend time with. A sophisticated and sensual treat."--Delia Sherman "A compelling and original novel full of subtle and sometimes erotic magic. Alasdair and Lucinda are the real gems here, and the city of Arcato itself places Ellen Steiber in the company of authors such as M. John Harrison, whose richly imagined cities prove endlessly intriguing."--Gregory Frost "Steiber's knowledge of gemstone lore makes for a rich and unusual fantasy background. I hope to see more of the city of Arcato!"-- Emma Bull "The city of Arcato holds masks and shape-shifters, tricksters and true love, gods and dragons, and a glittering hoard of amethysts and topaz, rubies and moonstones. Steiber weaves her spell with all this and more, to create a beautiful, dazzling, magical novel."--Lisa Goldstein

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lawrence A. Babb's Emerald City provides an intriguing portrait of the gemstone cutting industry of the North Indian city of Jaipur. It focuses on the ownership class consisting mainly of Jains and members of northern India's traditional trading communities. Based on oral-historical investigations of family firms, along with ethnographic observations and interviews, the book describes how the industry is organized, when and how it developed its characteristic features, and its evolving relationship with its social context. Babb pays special attention to the impact of culture on the business, with particular emphasis on the role of religion, specifically Jainism. He also offers a systematic comparison between Jaipur's gemstone business and New York City's famed diamond industry. In its application of ethnographic methodology to the study of an indigenous Indian industry, Emerald City delivers a unique perspective on business life in a non-Western setting.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Weve all heard, Diamonds are Forever! But is it really true? If diamonds could talk, Im sure they would tell many stories of intrigue, lust, and greed, but also about a few beautiful love stories where fairy tale couples marry and live happily ever after. On a tour of the Holyland, two decades ago, our group ventured into a somewhat exclusive diamond factory. We watched a meticulous diamond cutter at work at his bench. Although many enticing gems and decorative items of jewelry were on display, I shyly slipped away without even the tiniest free sample. However, very shortly thereafter, I grabbed up a beautiful gemstone necklace from a persistent Arab street vendor in the city of our Saviors birth. It later glistened like the Star of Bethlehem whenever my mom wore it. Besides this, I noticed how a member of our tour group was picking up a worthless little stone at every holy site we would visit. Very soon I was following her example. What is the value of such a collection of stones? Only the memories it brings back to our minds every time we gaze upon it. Hopefully, my bag of stones (or poems) will be of similar value to the reader if this book. But please dont altogether elude The Sacred Vault and The Cavern of Commentaries. At any rate, may you pursuer and enjoy the adventure of it all.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited collection is an interdisciplinary study of gems in the early modern world. It examines the relations between the art, science, and technology of gems, and it does so against the backdrop of an expanding global trade in gems. The eleven chapters are organised into three parts. The first part sets the scene by describing how gems moved around the early modern world, how they were set in motion, and how they were pulled together in the course of their travels. The second part is about value. It asks why people valued gems, how they determined the value of a given gem, and how the value of a gem was connected to its perceived place of origin. The third part deals with the skills involved in cutting, polishing, and mounting gems, and how these skills were transmitted and articulated by artisans. The common themes of all these chapters are materials, knowledge and global trade. The contributors to this volume focus on the material properties of gems such as their weight and hardness, on the knowledge involved in exchanging them and valuing them, and on the cultural consequences of the expanding trade in gems in Eurasia and the Americas.
