Book excerpt: We are just over three years into a pandemic that has greatly impacted all facets of society. Wearing masks, social distancing and lockdowns have redefined our world. Our memory of what used to be a "free and safe" world has very quickly been blurred out by this event. There's a sense of helplessness and hopelessness as many are left disillusioned and confused. This then poses the question, what does it mean to be free, and what are my fundamental rights as a human? Andrew examines the first few chapters of the scriptures and shares seven fundamental rights and duties from the Creator to all humans. A graduate of medical science in 2010, a youth leader and now a pastor, Andrew is most passionate about serving the Lord's Will and bringing His freedom to humanity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern movements such as neo-Calvinism, the New Perspective on Paul, and the emerging church have popularized a view of Christianity and culture that calls for the redemption of earthly society and institutions. Many Christians have reflexively embraced this view, enticed by the socially active and engaged faith it produces. Living in God's Two Kingdoms illustrates how a two-kingdoms model of Christianity and culture affirms much of what is compelling in these transformationist movements while remaining faithful to the whole counsel of Scripture. By focusing on God's response to each kingdom—his preservation of the civil society and his redemption of the spiritual kingdom—VanDrunen teaches readers how to live faithfully in each sphere. Highlighting vital biblical distinctions between honorable and holy tasks, VanDrunen's analysis will challenge Christians to be actively and critically engaged in the culture around them while retaining their identities as sojourners and exiles in this world.

Book excerpt: This is a study into the central theme of the Bible on achieving citizenship in the Kingdom of God. As spiritual archaeologists, we explore and examine what provision has been made for our growth in order that we may be just like Jesus. What principles and doctrines are given to us and how to interpret them. The Bible is a rich source of material that is easily distorted or diverted to prove our own opinions. But what is the Word that comes with a power that cannot be shaken or moved? Jesus never came to set up a new religion or even envisaged the ones we currently find on earth. Jesus never ordained ministers or Bishops or any other office such as is found only in churches. Jesus was very opposed to religious rulers but freely conducted Himself as only a regal King could. We only need to look at the manner in which He spoke to sickness, disease and bondage. There was no discussions just commands issued as a King would. Sickness, disease and bondage are not resident in the Kingdom of Heaven and the King of Kings was not going to allow them to exist in any part of His Kingdom. Jesus came and corrected the image people had of the Father. Up until the time Jesus came and ministered, people had no clue as to the nature and character of the Father. Without a clear vision it is easy to see why people got caught up in idol worship. This book opens the windows and pulls back the curtains to let the light in that we can see our path to citizenship clearer.

Book excerpt: Wholly Citizens addresses the relation between the church and the world in light of the Reformation teaching of the two realms—especially as presented by Luther. Rather than exploring again the usual texts of Luther from the 1520’s, this book begins with a careful reading of Luther’s Commentary on Psalm 81 (1531), and then considers subsequent interpreters of Luther, both faithful and otherwise, and the dubious legacy they have left the church. The book argues that both the corporate church as well as individual believers are responsible for the world, and that each must speak directly about and to the world in meaningful ways. The final section of the book addresses the concrete situation facing believers in the early 21st century in light of faithful Reformation teaching about the two realms. Following this path leads to conclusions not entirely expected, including the forthright rejection of “a wall of separation” between church and state, and also a rebuke of the familiar clamor for the preservation of the rights of Christians and the church. Heedless of the status quo, Wholly Citizens offers an engaging and bracing picture of Christian life in today’s world—a picture framed in theological truth.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The church in the West is rediscovering the fact that God cares deeply for the poor. More and more, churches and individual Christians are looking for ways to practice economic discipleship, but it's hard to make progress when we are blind to our own entanglement in our culture's idolatrous economic beliefs and practices. Practicing the King's Economy cuts through much confusion and invites Christians to take their place within the biblical story of the "King Jesus Economy." Through eye-opening true stories of economic discipleship in action, and with a solid exploration of six key biblical themes, the authors offer practical ways for God's people to earn, invest, spend, compensate, save, share, and give in ways that embody God's love and provision for the world. Foreword by Christopher J. H. Wright.

Book excerpt: A profound exploration of how to hold on to hope when our unchanging faith collides with a changing culture, from two respected Christian storytellers and thought leaders. “Offers neither spin control nor image maintenance for the evangelical tribe, but genuine hope.”—Russell Moore, president of ERLC As the pressures of health warnings, economic turmoil, and partisan politics continue to rise, the influence of gospel-focused Christians seems to be waning. In the public square and popular opinion, we are losing our voice right when it’s needed most for Christ’s glory and the common good. But there’s another story unfolding too—if you know where to look. In Gospelbound, Collin Hansen and Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra counter these growing fears with a robust message of resolute hope for anyone hungry for good news. Join them in exploring profound stories of Christians who are quietly changing the world in the name of Jesus—from the wild world of digital media to the stories of ancient saints and unsung contemporary activists on the frontiers of justice and mercy. Discover how, in these dark times, the light of Jesus shines even brighter. You haven’t heard the whole story. And that’s good news.

Book excerpt: The Kingdom Citizen: Understanding the Dominion, the Character, the Passion and the Power of the Citizen of Kingdom of God. To quote a favorite saying of some of the leading authorities on the subject of Purpose and Destiny: ‘where the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable.’ For months after I became born-again I felt somehow incomplete. The bliss I was promised was not there and I was too much of a self realist to pretend to myself or anybody else for that matter that everything was all right. My limited experience in the world of born-again believers up to that time has been limited to leading me to Christ and the eternal salvation of my soul. However, once I found Christ, nobody told me what I am supposed to do here on earth, other than living holy and ‘guarding’ my salvation with fear and trembling, before I will finally receive the keys to my mansion in heaven when I die.
