Jinn is an angel trapped in mortal flesh, sent down from the heavens to fight, die, and be reincarnated endlessly in the war against evil. But over the years, revenge supplanted justice, and now he lives only to wreck vengeance—whatever the cost—on the dark angel of Asmodeus who killed his lover. A series of brutal occult murders, left like breadcrumbs for him to follow, lead Jinn straight to the dark angel—an invitation to a final battle for the soul of Waterdeep. But will he still be able to choose the path of justice when he is so close to his enemy, after lifetimes of failure? Circle of Skulls is a dark fantasy of fallen angels, desperate rituals, and a mysterious series of occult murders. Set in the classic City of Splendors and presented by Forgotten Realms® campaign setting creator and celebrated author Ed Greenwood, you don’t want to miss out on this exciting glimpse into what the latest edition of the Realms has to offer. Book excerpt: The most powerful shaman of the People of the Bear Mother invites a young woman to take her soul's great adventure by painting a new piece of animal art on the walls in the deepest chambers of the awesome Great Cave. The time has come for Little Bear to make the life-altering choice to overcome her fear of the terrifying old shaman, and in doing so, unalterably change all the lives her soul will subsequently experience even as her "lion eye" reappears in each lifetime to identify her avatar. But before she may embark on her hero's journey, she must be initiated as hunter and then as Seer through trials, ordeals, and the revelations of her people's mythology expressed in the art of the Cave. The tale builds to an unexpected climax as one soul experiences many lifetimes in a hunting culture where being born female or male, homosexual or heterosexual, young or old are equally valid ways of being human. Inspired by the work of Joseph Campbell and the artwork of France's 35,000-yearold Chauvet Cave, the novel takes a fresh look at, and is a new take on, the life-ways and religion of our earliest ancestors through Little Bear's encounters with shamans, hunters, avatars, and painted caves. This story reveals that the spiritual messages hidden within this magnificent, incredibly ancient art are the same metaphysical beliefs of the New Age and the same universal human truths at the heart of every world religion and mystical philosophy. 2011 Book Competition Finalist Awards: USA Best Book Awards for New Age Fiction; IBA for Chick Lit-Women's Fiction; IBA for Gay-Lesbian Fiction.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How far will four friends go for immortality? This novel is Hugo and Nebula Award–winning author “Robert Silverberg at his very best” (George R. R. Martin). After Eli, a scholarly college student, finds and translates an ancient manuscript called The Book of Skulls, he and his friends embark on a cross-country trip to Arizona in search of a legendary monastery where they hope to find the secret of immortality. On the journey with Eli, there’s Timothy, an upper-class WASP with a trust fund and a solid sense of entitlement; Ned, a cynical poet and alienated gay man; and Oliver, a Kansas farm boy who escaped his rural origins and now wants to escape death. If they can find the House of Skulls where immortal monks allegedly reside, they’ll undergo a rigorous initiation. But do those eight grinning skulls mean the joke will be on them? For a sacrifice will be required. Two must die so that two may live forever . . . Stretching the boundary between science fiction and horror, Robert Silverberg masterfully probes deeper existential questions of morality, brotherhood, and self-determined destiny in what Harlan Ellison refers to as “one of my favorite nightmare novels.” This ebook features an illustrated biography of Robert Silverberg including rare images from the author’s personal collection.

Book excerpt: The skull is one of the most recognizable symbols of today’s contemporary visual culture. Adorning T-Shirts, badges and rock memorabilia as the ultimate symbol of anarchy and rebellion, the image of the skull has found its way into the vocabulary of urban life. In response to this cultural phenomenon, The Book of Skulls presents a cool visual guide to the skull, charting its rebirth through music and street fashion to become today’s ultimate anti-establishment icon. From the Grateful Dead to skater punk graffiti, from haute-couture to Damien Hirst, this book is the ultimate collection of iconic and unusual skull motifs. Packaged in an amazing 'skeleton' binding and drawing together artwork from music, fashion, street art and graphic design, The Book of Skulls is a celebration of one of today’s most iconic cultural symbols.

In AN OATH OF BROTHERS, Thorgrin and his brothers emerge from the land of the dead, more driven than ever to find Guwayne, and set sail across a hostile sea, leading them to places beyond their wildest dreams. As they come ever-closer to finding Guwayne, they also encounter obstacles unlike ever before, obstacles which will test them to their very limits, which will call on all their training and force them to stand together as one, as brothers. Darius stands up to the Empire, boldly freeing one slave village after the next, amassing an army, as others rally to his cause. Facing off against fortified cities, against an army a thousand times his size, he summons all of his instincts and courage, determined to survive, determined to win, to strive for freedom at any cost, even at the cost of his life. Gwendolyn, with no other choice, leads her people into the Great Waste, deeper into the Empire than anyone has ever journeyed, on a quest to find the legendary Second Ring—the last hope for the survival of her people, and the last hope for Darius. Yet along the way she will encounter horrific monsters, worse landscapes, and an insurrection from amidst her own people that even she may not be able to stop. Erec and Alistair sail for the Empire to save their people, and along the way stop at hidden islands, determined to raise an army—even if it means dealing with mercenaries of questionable repute. Godfrey finds himself deep inside the city of Volusia and deep in trouble as his plan goes from bad to worse. Imprisoned, set to be executed, finally, even he can see no way out. Volusia forges a pact with the darkest of sorcerers, and driven to even greater heights, she continues her ascent, conquering all who stand in her way. More powerful than ever, she will take her war all the way to the steps of the Empire Capital—until she is up against the entire Empire army, an army that dwarfs even her own, setting the stage for an epic battle. Will Thorgrin find Guwayne? Will Gwendolyn and her people survive? Will Godfrey escape? Will Erec and Alistair reach the Empire? Will Volusia become the next Empress? Will Darius lead his people to victory? With its sophisticated world-building and characterization, AN OATH OF BROTHERS is an epic tale of friends and lovers, of rivals and suitors, of knights and dragons, of intrigues and political machinations, of coming of age, of broken hearts, of deception, ambition and betrayal. It is a tale of honor and courage, of fate and destiny, of sorcery. It is a fantasy that brings us into a world we will never forget, and which will appeal to all ages and genders. “[An] entertaining epic fantasy.” —Kirkus Reviews “Action-packed …. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This early work by Robert E. Howard was originally published in 1929 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. 'Skulls in the Stars' is a story that follows the adventures of the puritan explorer Solomon Kane. Robert Ervin Howard was born in Peaster, Texas in 1906. During his youth, his family moved between a variety of Texan boomtowns, and Howard – a bookish and somewhat introverted child – was steeped in the violent myths and legends of the Old South. At fifteen Howard began to read the pulp magazines of the day, and to write more seriously. The December 1922 issue of his high school newspaper featured two of his stories, 'Golden Hope Christmas' and 'West is West'. In 1924 he sold his first piece – a short caveman tale titled 'Spear and Fang' – for $16 to the not-yet-famous Weird Tales magazine. Howard's most famous character, Conan the Cimmerian, was a barbarian-turned-King during the Hyborian Age, a mythical period of some 12,000 years ago. Conan featured in seventeen Weird Tales stories between 1933 and 1936 which is why Howard is now regarded as having spawned the 'sword and sorcery' genre. The Conan stories have since been adapted many times, most famously in the series of films starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Weirdness, however, is an easily accessible antidote to these feelings of languishing. The quirky, eccentric, and peculiar can take us out of our normal habits of thought and perception, surprising us by breaking up our routines and reminding us that there's more to life than the everyday. In How to Be Weird, Eric G. With brief digestible entries on how to make sense of the random, guidelines on how to defamiliarize familiar objects through meditation, and exercises for locating weird states and phenomena for ourselves, How to Be Weird is an invitation to lean into the weird and to live a fuller life.

Book excerpt: Crystal skulls are human-skull hardstone carvings often made of clear or milky white quartz known as "rock crystal." They are allegedly pre-Columbian Mesoamerican artifacts and can be found in the permanent collections of a number of world-class museums, including the Smithsonian and the British Museum. In occult and metaphysical circles, the skulls have magical and healing qualities: Anna Mitchell-Hedges (owner of a particularly famous skull) claimed that the skull could cause visions and cure cancer and that its magical properties could be used to kill. Drunvalo Melchizedek claims in Serpent of Light that he stumbled upon descendants of the ancient Mayans who possess crystal skulls for use in religious ceremonies in Yucatan temples. Jamie Sams writes of the skulls' association with Native American mythology. In this book, best-selling occultist and crystal expert Judy Hall provides a basic primer on crystal skulls: What they are Where they are found Their role in legend and lore around the world Their uses for physical and psychic healing Also included here in this stunning introductory text is an examination of the prominent "skull keepers" of the past 100 years and examination of how to use and communicate with a crystal skull. This is a terrific introductory text for those interested in occult and ancient mysteries and/or the power of gems and crystals.
