Book excerpt: Far from carrying out its Biblical mandate to be a terror to evildoers, civil government in America has increasingly become a terror to its law-abiding citizens. R. J. Rushdoony’s essays seem even more timely today as we are witnessing a staggering display of state intrusion into every area of life. This is the outcome of humanistic thinking. It is the end result of political salvation as both Left and Right continue to practice the belief that we can somehow get better—or less—government by way of politics. However, Rushdoony’s comments are pastoral and theological, not political. He did not spin the issues for political gain, but spoke as a man who feared God and desired to know how God’s Word was applicable to our times. Throughout these concise, insightful essays, you will see that true and lasting freedom is the end result of responsible, faithful Christians exercising self-government in terms of God’s Word.

Book excerpt: “THE following messages are printed in response to many requests for their publication. I have allowed the local coloring to remain in the discourses, because I felt that these elements might add to the vitality of the messages, and make them more concrete and real. “I have not softened the messages, either, by ‘retouching’ them. These messages were stenographically reported, and they are given here just as God gave them to the messenger,—hot from the heart. “Happily, however, we are getting away from that false modesty which is not willing to talk about these evils, in order that they may be exposed and corrected, but is willing to tolerate them in guilty and shameful silence. We need to substitute the challenging tones of truth for this cowardly and prudish reserve. We need to speak out. We need knowledge of these secret enemies of our homes. These evils feed on silence and grow by stealth, and we ought today to tell the whole truth and not compromise with evil. ‘Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.’ As in Hosea’s day, thousands and tens of thousands are being ‘destroyed for lack of knowledge.’ Men and women, boys and girls,—our children, our brothers and our sisters,—are going down. Surely it is our duty to unmask the sources of their destruction, and to seek by all honest and legitimate means to defend ourselves against these secret assailants of the sanctity of the church, the purity of the home, the good order of the state, and the very life of the nation itself. After every war, there is a wave of immorality. We have just passed through the greatest war of all time, and we are now witnessing the widest wave of immorality in the history of the human race. Like a consuming fire, it is sweeping over the world. Only a spurious and silly optimism can deny this fact. All who really know conditions, both in Europe and America, confirm the fact.”—Rev. John Roach Straton

Book excerpt: Jung-Stilling was a mystic and Christian visionary, and member of the German Pietist Brethren. He personally experienced the terrors and tragedies of war after the invasion of Germany by France in 1792, and the effects of the Enlightenment and the French Revolution on religion, morality and life in his homeland. Jung believed that Jesus Christ would come in the year 1836, convinced that the events of Europe during this era were the signs of the end of the age. Jung developed a plan to evangelize and prepare Germany for the return of Jesus Christ, which he expounds in this book. Menace Eastern-Light, the Man in the Grey Suit, written 1795-1800, is a compilation of the mystical and evangelical concepts of Jung. This translation makes available to the English-reading public the valuable ideas and concepts of this unique and famous German mystic and Christian visionary. The person of Menace Eastern-Light is the alter-ego of Jung. Menace was originally the main character in Jungs book Homesickness, and who always wore grey clothing. Even though Jung is a character in his own book, his is distinct from Menace, and Jung becomes the recorder of the thoughts and opinions of Menace. As alter-ego of Jung, Menace considers himself a demi-god, an angelic entity who descended from heaven and became incarnated; he is commissioned to rectify the corruption of the Christian religion in Germany and to prepare the people for the arrival of Christ in 1836. The translator is Daniel H. Shubin, who has previously translated 5 books into English dealing with Christianity in Russian and Europe; and is the author of 2 books on the Bible and one on Christian pacifism.

Book excerpt: The early Church faced its share of villains—persecutors like Nero and Julian, heretics like Marcion and Arius. And what good were they? Plenty, say the Church Fathers. The threat of persecution made Christians strong and bold. As noted author Mike Aquilina demonstrates in Villains of the Early Church: And How They Made Us Better Christians, the menace of heresy made Christians smarter — and deepened their knowledge of the divine mysteries. The villains of the ancient world proved the mettle of heroes like Peter and Paul, Irenaeus and Athanasius. Treachery and adversity inspired the Fathers’ clearest teaching, most entertaining invective, and more than a few memorable jokes. The time of villains—and heroes—is hardly over. Through Villains of the Early Church, you’ll learn how you can keep your good humor through trials and opposition, and all the while grow sharper in doctrine and warmer in devotion.

From the moment He arrived on the scene, Jesus posed a threat to the unjust, a threat to the oppressors, and a threat to every semblance of authority wielded by the kingdom of darkness. He invaded the world with love for the forgotten, hope for the hopeless, and freedom for the bound. His ideas were disruptive, subversive, and scandalous to the world around Him. Jesus was so dangerous, the powers that be killed Him. Today, our generation is seeing a surge of people walking away from the Christian faith. But what’s repelling people isn’t Jesus; it’s that what is often propagated as mainstream Christianity is simply not worthy of His name. Jesus is the most admired figure in history. He is also the most ignored, weaponized, reinterpreted, and misappropriated figure in history. The question is . . . who do you think He is? In Dangerous Jesus, Kevin “KB” Burgess—award-winning rapper, podcaster, and international speaker—reintroduces us to the true Jesus, the one who poses a living threat to the status quo. He’s a threat to our division. He’s a threat to our rebellion. He is the kind of dangerous that is so infused with power from on high that nothing stays the same when He walks into the room. His love is so strong, it’s intoxicating. His truth is so good, it sets people free. We need to reconnect with this Jesus. We need to become a threat to the threats. We need to be dangerous. If you’re ready to meet the real Jesus . . . If you’re ready to join in the fight . . . If you want to make the church a genuine threat to evil once again . . . join KB in Dangerous Jesus and encounter the enemy-loving, world-changing, good-dangerous Savior.

Book excerpt: It is stunningly obvious that the Western World is waging a relentless war on Christianity, unparalleled when compared to its treatment of other major world religions. It is difficult enough that we are dealing with a sharp decline in societal morality, but much of what we have to deal with in the 21st century is coming from legislators, social activists, and national leaders. Practices and traditions that we have treasured for centuries are increasingly under threat. In addition to Easter and Christmas, the value of life and the way we define "human" is under assault, and even gender distinctions are being threatened. These trends are both alarming and deeply disappointing to observe, because Western Civilization, which owes its historic survival and success to Christianity, repeatedly goes to great lengths to strip Christianity from all sectors of Western life, particularly in Europe and North America. Christians are often bullied, their faith vilified and their beliefs undermined, while special accommodations are made for other religions. What is going on? The value of life: Some European doctors legally kill healthy adults on request, while Americans abort over one million healthy babies every year. Traditional marriage: In the Spring of 2013, the United States Supreme Court heard arguments for same-sex-marriage. Sexuality: Pressure mounts for Christians to affirm all adult consensual sex as normal and healthy. Celebrating Easter: School districts have banned the word "Easter" in favor of "Spring Egg Hunts." Acknowledging God: Public high school students are routinely threatened with significant disciplinary action if they make any reference to God in speeches. Christmas: Christmas is now "holidays," Christmas trees are "holiday trees," public nativity scenes are banned, and some companies forbid their employees from saying "Merry Christmas" to customers. Preaching of God's Word: The legitimate preaching and teaching of God's Word cou

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on the values, beliefs, fears and actions of Brazilian groups that throughout the twentieth century fought the red menace. It is based on broad and diversified documentary sources, including police files, archives of political leaders, traditional press periodicals, newspapers and brochures of right-wing organizations, monuments, caricatures, and photographs. The work is a major contribution to better understanding the political impact of right-wing movements in Brazil and the justifications made for the authoritarian coups of 1937 and 1964. The author explains the intricacy of the political movements, leaderships and organizations that gathered around the fight against communism, as well as the ideas and images used to disseminate their arguments, including international sources of inspiration. The argument presented is not one of mere condemnation, but as dictatorship has reared its head post-1964 an assessment is long overdue in order to understand the political impact of anti-communist movements which have contributed to enable the longstanding police-military repressive machine of the Brazilian State. The current return of anti-communism to the Brazilian political scene is evidence of the book's thesis that this phenomenon took root in Brazilian society during the first decades of the twentieth century. On Guard Against the Red Menace helps to understand why a candidate of military origin who promises to rid the country of the reds won the October 2018 elections in Brazil, by adopting a discursive strategy that represents the appropriation of the anti-communist tradition analyzed in this book.

The two are wholly antagonistic to each o'ber. If you embrace the Gospel, you oppose the entertainment; ii' you are an entertainer or patronize them, you oppose the Gospel of Jesus Christ, in asmuch as the whole teaching of the Scriptures is opposed to the spirit and principles of Church entertainments. As in my first book, this addition seeks to evaluation the present condition of the church in the world. The workers of iniquity do not bother those from whom there is no threat. For that reason, this addition seeks to look deep within the modern church to sees where the modern world has slipped in among us, because we were unaware. And so, the Threat from Within Revisited, come to the reader with eyes wide open, exposing the threat of Secular Humanism within the church, the assault on the family, and the unceasing attack on Biblical inerrancy. Let's look at the path of encroachment, brick by brick, that has taken the church to the brink of becoming irrelevant to a lost world looking for a Savior.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "It incarnates every unclean beast of lust, guile, falsehood, murder, despotism and spiritual wickedness." So wrote a prominent Southern Baptist official in 1899 of Mormonism. Rather than the "quintessential American religion," as it has been dubbed by contemporary scholars, in the late nineteenth century Mormonism was America's most vilified homegrown faith. A vast national campaign featuring politicians, church leaders, social reformers, the press, women's organizations, businessmen, and ordinary citizens sought to end the distinctive Latter-day Saint practice of plural marriage, and to extinguish the entire religion if need be. Placing the movement against polygamy in the context of American and southern history, Mason demonstrates that anti-Mormonism was one of the earliest vehicles for reconciliation between North and South after the Civil War and Reconstruction. Southerners joined with northern reformers and Republicans to endorse the use of newly expanded federal power to vanquish the perceived threat to Christian marriage and the American republic. Anti-Mormonism was a significant intellectual, legal, religious, and cultural phenomenon, but in the South it was also violent. While southerners were concerned about distinctive Mormon beliefs and political practices, they were most alarmed at the "invasion" of Mormon missionaries in their communities and the prospect of their wives and daughters falling prey to polygamy. Moving to defend their homes and their honor against this threat, southerners turned to legislation, to religion, and, most dramatically, to vigilante violence. The Mormon Menace provides new insights into some of the most important discussions of the late nineteenth century and of our own age, including debates over the nature and limits of religious freedom; the contest between the will of the people and the rule of law; and the role of citizens, churches, and the state in regulating and defining marriage.
