Book excerpt: The objective of this book is to link my human resource management experiences with my perception on what the Bible demonstrates about human resource management in general. My experiences are derived from industries such as health, media, security, education, manufacturing, and the banking industry. The Scripture quoted in this book is from the Holy Bible, New International Version (NIV). In the book, I have also made a number of references to the Kenyan Labor Laws of 2007 (Employment Act 2007, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and Labor Relations Act 2007). This book serves to enlighten employees about human resource management. Employees should learn that when a human resource practitioner does something, it is not out of malice but rather in line with the human resource policies. It is therefore the duty of the employees to adhere to the employee code of conduct and the human resource policies. Managers in other departments will also get enlightened to embrace and support the human resource department. These managers should learn that human resource policies apply to everyone in the organization regardless of their job titles. The human resource department is just as important as any other department in any organization. Human resource practitioners are therefore to be treated with respect and dignity as a part of the larger team driving the vision of the organization. Human resource practitioners will be encouraged to learn that in my perspective, the Bible is in support of human resource management practices. The Bible also gives human resource practitioners guidelines on how to run the human resource function. The human resource practitioners should therefore demonstrate integrity and professionalism as they work in this noble profession. Students joining universities will get motivation to pursue human resource management as a career from my story in this book. This is a unique, interesting, and well-rewarding career.

There are a lot of myths about productivity--what it means to get things done and how to accomplish work that really matters. In our current era of innovation and information overload, it may feel harder than ever to understand the meaning of work or to have a sense of vocation or calling. So how do you get more of the right things done without confusing mere activity for actual productivity? Matt Perman has spent his career helping people learn how to do work in a gospel-centered and effective way. What's Best Next explains his approach to unlocking productivity and fulfillment in work by showing how faith relates to work, even in our everyday grind. What's Best Next is packed with biblical and theological insight and practical counsel that you can put into practice today, such as: How to create a mission statement for your life that's actually practicable. How to delegate to people in a way that really empowers them. How to overcome time killers like procrastination, interruptions, and multitasking by turning them around and making them work for you. How to process workflow efficiently and get your email inbox to zero every day. How to have peace of mind without needing to have everything under control. How generosity is actually the key to unlocking productivity. This expanded edition includes: a new chapter on productivity in a fallen world a new appendix on being more productive with work that requires creative thinking. Productivity isn't just about getting more things done. It's about getting the right things done--the things that count, make a difference, and move the world forward. You can learn how to do work that matters and how to do it well.

Finally, the book uses Acts 6:1-7 as a basis for identifying the type of people one should look to hire. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is for managers (owners, executives, and supervisors of businesses, nonprofit organizations, and government entities) who occasionally or often think about God and the Bible when managing employees. Written by Connecticut lawyer David A. Robinson, it discusses laws pertaining to employment and human resource management. It occasionally uses Bible quotes to illustrate what the employment laws say. Employment law is derived in many ways from the Bible. David is not a preacher. But he has found some Bible quotes that happen to be very good teaching tools for employers. They teach how to achieve a diverse workforce, maximum worker productivity, legal compliance, fewer lawsuits, clearer conscience, and, hopefully, good profits. David's book is for people of all faiths. It is an excellent textbook or supplemental reading for business students and law students. David has 40 years of experience handling employment discrimination cases. He taught business ethics and human resource management at the University of New Haven from 2005 to 2014. He taught legal ethics from 1979 to 1982 and business law from 2001 to 2005 at Western New England University. He earned his J.D. in 1977 from Washington University in St. Louis.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the scriptural concepts that apply to leading and managing people. It begins with a chapter that contrasts leaders, managers, and administrators and the roles they each play. The book then presents the seven virtues from the Beatitudes and how these virtues result in leaders and managers’ behaviors. The book then reviews the 15 characteristics of what love is and what love is not from the 1 Corinthians 12 passage. The book presents the four modalities of leaders as conveyed in the Ezekiel 1 and 10 chapters, as well as Revelations 4 where Ezekiel and John describe the four faces of the winged beings. The modalities are described in terms of contemporary leaders interacting with employees in the workplace. A chapter follows, based on the Parable of the Vineyard and how leaders should provide a minimum living wage. The book then compares the wife in Proverbs 31 to a good leader/manager in today’s contemporary organization. The book ends with an admonition from Ecclesiastes 3:1 about the need for leaders/managers to step away and not meddle when the leader/manager’s role is finished. Throughout the book, composite case examples provide practical application of the concepts to contemporary organizations.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some managers want to integrate the Bible into their managerial thinking. This book teaches them how. It teaches how to achieve a diverse workforce, maximum worker productivity, legal compliance, fewer lawsuits, clearer conscience, and, hopefully, good profits. It is for managers and employees of all faiths. Written by Connecticut lawyer David A. Robinson, the book is more a legal guide and practical guide than a religious guide. But it has a religious flavor. It includes innovative, faith-based tips to help achieve good profits and help prevent race discrimination, ethnicity discrimination, sex discrimination, age discrimination, religion discrimination, disability discrimination, and sexual orientation discrimination in the workplace. This book comes along at the right time. Donald Trump is, according to his daughter Ivanka, "color blind and gender neutral." Whether President Trump is indeed "color blind and gender neutral" is perhaps debatable, but employers can expect that beginning on January 20, 2017, they will be hearing the words "color-blind and gender neutral" more and more. It will more and more become national policy. This book is an excellent guide for them. There are, of course, a few circumstances when employers should not be color blind and gender neutral. Robinson discusses these circumstances. President Trump says his favorite book is the Bible. We may be hearing the words "faith-based" more during the Trump administration than during the previous administration.

Book excerpt: In Matthew 10:16, Christ advised His Apostles to be "wise" and "innocent" as they go out "in the midst of wolves." This book shows Christians how to be wise and innocent as they work among people who sometimes behave like wolves. Temptation, greed, dishonesty, and misguided ambition have always presented challenges for Christians in the workplace. Add secular bias, political correctness, and persecution to the mix, and the modern workplace becomes a foreboding environment for Christians to navigate. This is so much the case, many Christians wonder if it is still possible to earn a living without compromising their faith. Christians on the Job does more than demonstrate that Christians can stand firm when confronted with faith-related dilemmas in the workplace. It also demonstrates how to go about it. Using concepts illustrated with real-life examples, steps to implement in specific situations, life application questions, and resources for going deeper, Dr. Goetsch draws a clear map to ensure Christians can find their way and thrive on the job.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the authors create a statistically validated scale measuring the display of each of the nine fruit of the spirit in employees. The authors will discuss how biblical values are applicable to contemporary organizational leadership and management. These nine virtues span a wide breadth of important personal and organizational attributes including benevolence, affection, gladness, relational harmony, tranquility, perseverance, helpfulness, caring for the welfare of others, adherence to the beliefs and value of others, power used soberly, and mastering one’s desires. While diverse in nature, the list also suggests a holistic development of personal and organizational character. Understanding the manner in which these traits can be measured will be a significant benefit to HRM and HRD scholars conducting research in Christian servant leadership.
