Book Synopsis Christian and Catholic (Classic Reprint) by : Charles C. Grafton

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Christian and Catholic The professional proselytizer, as we know the class, is a repulsive character. He studies the art of injecting doubts into devout minds, of playing on the weaknesses and vanities of his proposed con verts. He exaggerates the discords within their church, the contrariant opinions, the lack of discip line. Sometimes he cajoles, sometimes he seeks to terrify, sometimes he tries to influence by social ad vantages, sometimes he seeks to take souls captive by subtle sophisms. He is apt to be self-deceived as well as a deceiver, while asserting that he is working for the greater glory of God. In reality he is doing what our Lord condemned in the Pharisees. They compassed heaven and earth to make proselytes, but failed grievously in making them true children of God. For themselves and their converts the result was just the Opposite. It is right to try to help our brothers who are in honest doubt, just in the same spirit as we would be glad for them to help us when in need. It is right if our motive is to aid any Christian soul to come into closer union with Christ. Even should any one be lieve that his church was the only true one, yet to work for it in the same spirit one works for the success of an earthly object is to belie its character. We must work, not for any personal gain but as Christ did. Our guiding pole-star must be the good of others' souls. If our own words are found of help to any, enabling them to know better God's Will, in whatever way He leads them, may they have grace to follow it. Book Synopsis The Christ of the Forty Days by : A.B. Simpson
Download or read book The Christ of the Forty Days written by A.B. Simpson and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2010-08-02 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, The Christ of the Forty Days, A.B. Simpson tells of the overwhelming experiences of the risen Christ. A.B. Simpson scripturally tells of the 40 days between Christ's resurrection and ascension, His appearance many times to His disciples, His teaching them about the nature of discipleship and His own divine nature and power they need to "go into all the world." In The Christ of the 40 Days, it is with this same power, that A.B. Simpson affirms is no less needed today to accomplish God's work today in all the world. The Christ of the Forty Days is a triumphant book of overpowering declaration and peace. He wins, He has defeated the aggressor, and Christ has been declared the victor! Christ is not an untouchable unapproachable Christ but is the opposite, knowing that we need Him and allows Himself to be a truly understanding Christ. He is "able to 'sympathize with our weaknesses' and ready to help us in our times of need." But he will also teach us during these times of trials and stress. He even took the opportunity to challenge his disciples during this most stressful time in their lives to "go into all the world and preach the gospel," sending them a clear message of that their real work had just started. The Christ of the Forty Days was originally published in 1883.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Catholic We can all do something either with the tongue or pen; God demands it and the government expects it. Let us look around us, and we shall see that there are those in our midst who are continually trying to destroy our faith in God, as well as in all the free institutions of our country. We hear a great deal said in our day about which is the true church; now, there is only one church, and that is the church of Jesus Christ. This church was established by him. Now, Christ has assured this church that the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Now, we do not believe that this is the church of Rome. We believe it is the true, non-sectarian Catholic church. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Our Need of a Catholic Church But the world in 1915 is not in the least like that, and the contrast between what is and what might have been is due in part, at least, to the failure of the Church to be true to its own commission. It is also because of this that no practical man dreams of turning to the Church to find the way out from the intolerable situation into which the nations have drifted. From the mighty moral principles that reach down to the depths of human nature, to the symbolic regalia of her holiday pageants, all the church's doctrines of faith and precepts of morals and forms of worship are related to a few great truths, and are, in their time and place, the natural and proper expression of those truths. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A History of the Catholic Church This sublime purpose of Christ has always been the main object pursued by the Church. It is the highest aspect and aim of Christianity. But Christianity has two aspects: one, partially described above, is all divine, and looking to God; contemplating man, not in his temporal existence, but in the eternal state of being. This is the direct object of the existence of the Church. But it may be easily shown that the Church, which appears to have been intended exclusively for our happiness in a future life, is also to serve for the furtherance and maintenance of our well-being here below. Book Synopsis The Spirit of Catholicism by : Dr. Karl Adam
Download or read book The Spirit of Catholicism written by Dr. Karl Adam and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2017-06-28 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the 1929 English translation of the original German text first published in 1924 and authored by one of the world’s most distinguished Christian philosophers, Dr. Karl Adam. This book is a brilliant and evocative study of the fundamental concepts of the Catholic Faith, from its tenets, its historical development and the role of the Church in world society. For many on the outside, Catholicism, according to Dr. Adam, represents a daunting and somewhat foreign confused mass of conflicting forces that has somehow survived the tests of time. Catholicism is simultaneously new yet quite old; holy yet corrupt; hierarchical yet personal; dogmatic yet utilitarian, and so on. How can someone outside the Church get a good grasp on the essence of Catholicism when it is so vast and seemingly complex? Those attempting to grasp the very heart and spirit of Catholicism should read Karl Adam’s book, which is a most elegant and concise exploration of the faith and an attempt to address these ambiguities. What are the fundamental attributes of the Catholic Church? What is the source from which it has drawn vigor and life through its two thousand years of life on earth? What are the secret sources of its incredible vitality in the world today? The author answers these and many other questions about the nature and structure of the Church. He examines the essential nature of the Catholic Church from the basic premise that it was expressly founded by Christ, traces its historical development and analyzes its actual functioning through the ages.
