Book excerpt: CAPRICE LETAN is a book of short novels, what is held together by my life full of adventures, and my recent sailing trip across the South -Pacific Ocean. I began to write it in a Bay in Nuku Hiva Island In The Marquesas Group on the way to Tahiti. I am on a 10 meter long sailing boat Called : Dolphin Dancer. I bought her in 2011 October and sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge 6 weeks later. I stopped at St. Catalina Island for a short spell, however, it’s too cold for me there. I can’t deny it I Am a Tropical Person Now. Nobody can sell me snow, unless he mixes it with sugar and lime juice first, moreover call it Lemon Ice cream. I should had been born as a small black boy, on a tropical island, with a fishing rod in my hand and a hat like Huckleberry Finn used to wear on his raft on the Mississippi . Lately I buy and sell boats yearly, it’s a bad habit of mine . I should stop it, but can’t afford it, because it keeps me in cash . I fix them up quick and sell them for little extra . I can buy an air ticket and fly back to The Top of the hill and slide down again with a new boat . Not all slides are without accident, as you rightfully guessed . Dolphin Dancer is my tenth boat in line. Number four Antilia broken in half, in a category 5 hurricane in the lagoon of St. Martin, and never sailed at all . I could not decide which half to use to sail onwards . She was a schooner, so had 2 masts, enough for 2 boats but the hull was of concrete . Yes she was a Floating pavement . Not many around anymore. “ I wonder why? “ Some of my boats I sold as far as New Caledonia, Gibraltar and the Seychelles . Yes I sailed a lot . But do not chuck this book away, because you do not like boats and sea , the better half of this book is about normal land dwellers like you and poor me . Yes I was born on land, not even on the nicest part of it, and had to wade my way towards the sea, like a seal virtually on my belly.

Download or read book Life on the Wing written by Derwent May and published by Biteback Publishing. This book was released on 2012-04-10 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From dainty avocets prancing along the seashore to panic-stricken waxwings frenziedly gobbling berries, from barking barnacle geese to soaring skylarks, Derwent May writes about birds in a very special way. As he goes in search of birdlife in a variety of places - the English lanes and rolling corn fields that he loves, the lonely Essex marshes, the remote bird-haunted islands of Grassholm and Fair Isle - May reveals just what it feels like to be a birdwatcher. With him, the reader will experience the excitement of fresh discoveries, the peace and contentment that birds can bring and the comedy to be found both in the behaviour of birds and the human response to them. May is an alert observer of avian habits and manners, describing them vividly and poetically, but underlying everything he writes is scientific knowledge and a wealth of experience. Employing all of these skills and drawing on his popular weekly 'Feather Reports' column from The Times, May creates a fascinating chronicle of a year in the life of our birds, from robins to rarities, with Peter Brown's illustrations adding the perfect finishing touch.

Book excerpt: Innocent people are dying. The forces of evil are getting out of line and somebody needs to kick some asses and take some names. That's Alexa's job. Alexa Hernandez is a Knight of the Right Hand. She stands between you and the forces of evil who corrupt your soul and think that you'd make a yummy appetizer. The Sword of Final Banishment is at her side. Angels who won't speak English are watching over her, and her mother is being nosy from thousands of miles away. Alexa's got this, even if demons and darkness take her work personally. She can hunt them, but they'll return the favor. “James Crawford’s quirky wit and imagination mesh remarkably well in this action-packed clash of angelic and demonic forces. James does a wonderful job painting a vivid picture of the epic struggle between good and evil using rhyming prose to hilarious effect, but it is the heart injected into this story that kept me turning pages late at night.” - Mark Reefe, author of The Road to Jericho, El Sendero, and The Valley of Hinnom.

Book Synopsis The Missing Treasures of Amy Ashton by : Eleanor Ray
Download or read book The Missing Treasures of Amy Ashton written by Eleanor Ray and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2021-06-08 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For fans of The Keeper of Lost Things and Evvie Drake Starts Over comes a “heartwarming and tender…good-humored and uplifting” (BookPage) debut about a reclusive artist whose collection has gotten out of control—but whose unexpected friendship with her new neighbors might be just what she needs to start over. Amy Ashton once dreamed of becoming an artist and creating beautiful objects. But now she simply collects them. Aquamarine bottles, bright yellow crockery, deep Tuscan red pots (and the odd slow cooker) take up every available inch of space in her house. Having suffered a terrible tragedy—one she staunchly refuses to let herself think about, thank you very much—she’s decided that it’s easier to love things instead of people. But when a new family moves in next door with two young boys, one of whom has a collection of his own, Amy’s carefully managed life starts to unravel, prompting her to question why she began to close herself off in the first place. As Amy embarks on a journey back into her past, she has to contend with nosy neighbors, a meddlesome government worker, the inept police, and a little boy whose love of bulldozers might just let Amy open up her heart—and her home—again. Quirky and charming, big-hearted and moving, The Missing Treasures of Amy Ashton proves that it’s never too late to let go of the things that don’t matter...and welcome the people who do.
