Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over 3 million copies sold! Essential reading for Catholics of all walks of life. Here it is - the first new Catechism of the Catholic Church in more than 400 years, a complete summary of what Catholics around the world commonly believe. The Catechism draws on the Bible, the Mass, the Sacraments, Church tradition and teaching, and the lives of saints. It comes with a complete index, footnotes and cross-references for a fuller understanding of every subject. The word catechism means "instruction" - this book will serve as the standard for all future catechisms. Using the tradition of explaining what the Church believes (the Creed), what she celebrates (the Sacraments), what she lives (the Commandments), and what she prays (the Lord's Prayer), the Catechism of the Catholic Church offers challenges for believers and answers for all those interested in learning about the mystery of the Catholic faith. The Catechism of the Catholic Church is a positive, coherent and contemporary map for our spiritual journey toward transformation.

Book Synopsis Catechism for Children by : Canon Quintet

Book excerpt: CATECHISM FOR CHILDREN OF DIFFERING AGES This newly reprinted Catechism for Children presents the truths of the Faith in a profound, but age-appropriate way, testing children differently depending upon their age and grade, all the while using the same text as the basis. Though written years ago, this book has sadly fallen into disuse, except for the Dominican Sisters at Post Falls, who have used this title in their education program for some years. ILLUSTRATED WITH LESSONS, STORIES, AND PRAYERS Each chapter of this attractive and partially illustrated catechism begins with a story from the Gospel to help root the lesson in the words and life of Our Lord. After the Gospel story, children will review questions from previous lessons, and then proceeds to the lesson itself. After the lesson there is a small reflection on how the catechism lesson applies to the life of the child, followed by a short prayer, a Gospel text, and excitingly, a relation of the catechism lesson to the Sacred Liturgy of the Church. Put simply, this Catechism for Children is an excellent tool by which to teach the catechism, which will be a joy for parents, educators, and children alike.

Book Synopsis The Baltimore Catechism by : Third Council of Baltimore
Download or read book The Baltimore Catechism written by Third Council of Baltimore and published by . This book was released on 2019-11-16 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Baltimore Catechism was the official book of Catholic doctrine and instruction for children in the United States - it consists of many lessons about God, the sacraments, and Jesus. An all-encompassing summary of the Catholic faith, The Baltimore Catechism explains what the principles and beliefs of Catholicism are. Each chapter consists of a series of questions and answers; beginning with the simple topic, gradually the questions grow more detailed and insightful. By the end of each chapter, the reader is intended to fully grasp the topic at hand, whether it be about the life and example of Jesus, or the functions of the church in society. The first part is intended for young children up to the fifth grade, the second is aimed at those from the sixth to the ninth grade, while the final, most detailed part is for those in high school. The idea of an official, Catholic book that explains the faith for young readers was conceived in the early 19th century. Bishops of the church determined that a single, complete text be distributed to church educators for use in Sunday schools and to parochial institutions. Divergences in the text throughout the 20th century made the catechism less popular, as schools established their own curricula. This edition of The Baltimore Catechism replicates the 1891 text, so that readers may receive an accurate impression of what the original book was intended to answer.

Download or read book Children’s Spirituality, Second Edition written by Kevin E. Lawson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-06-13 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Society of Children's Spirituality: Christian Perspectives launched in 2003 with its first conference held at Concordia University Chicago, in River Forest, Illinois. An earlier edition of this book, composed of chapters based on presentations from that conference, was published in 2004. In 2018 a decision was made to revise this book from the inaugural conference, updating some chapters and providing a new perspective on the ongoing work of the organization, now called the Children's Spirituality Summit. For example, given the advances in what we are learning from brain research, a chapter on this topic has been extensively updated. What this revised volume provides is a collection of chapters offering theological perspectives, social science research, and insights on ministry practice about the spiritual lives of children: how they relate to God, how this relationship grows, and what helps in promoting the spiritual formation and vitality of children in the home, church, and school This book offers twenty-three chapters by professors, graduate students, social science researchers, and ministry leaders from different denominational traditions addressing a wide range of issues in theory, research, and ministry practice with children. This second edition offers much to learn from, stimulate your thinking, and improve your practice.

Book Synopsis A Catechism for Family Life by : Sarah Bartel
Download or read book A Catechism for Family Life written by Sarah Bartel and published by Catholic University of America Press. This book was released on 2018-08-29 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of A Catechism for Family Life: Insights from Catholic Teaching on Love, Marriage, Sex, and Parenting is to present the teachings of the Catholic Church as they relate to specific questions in marriage and family life. Many Catholics are under-catechized and have trouble both understanding and articulating Church teaching on sexuality and marriage to an increasingly challenging culture. Pope Francis, along with the fathers of the two recent Synods on the Family, have called for better formation for those who work in the area of marriage and family life (see Amoris Laetitia, 202). To address this need, we gathered pertinent questions facing men, women, and pastoral workers in marriage and family life. We then found passages relevant to these questions by researching Church documents on marriage and family from the past one hundred years. These include papal encyclicals, apostolic exhortations, and addresses, Vatican II documents, and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Mainstream media coverage of Church events and Church teaching leads many to misunderstand Catholic positions on marriage and family life. While the Catholic Church has developed a rich, detailed, and positive teaching on marriage, family, and sexuality, many Catholics do not have access to this teaching, buried as it is in lengthy Church documents which many find intimidating. Finding the relevant teaching to address specific questions is not always a simple task, either. This book’s main contribution is to present Church teaching relevant to marriage and family in one volume clearly organized by topic and question.
