This book was released on 2000 with total page 1424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the several modern commentaries on the Gita, this one is unique in the sense it is both down to earth and fascinatingly erudite. In explaining every verse, the author, the 13th President of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, relates its real connotation and significance to not only what Shankaracharya said in his introduction to the Gita, or how Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda interpreted it in terms of practical Vedanta, but also how it conforms to the thinking of some of the greatest Greek philosophers like Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. The author also takes the readers on an enlightening voyage of discovery, where they meet Buddha, Mahavir, Tao, Christ and most of the thinkers in the West and he relates their thought by an ingenious interaction with the message of Sri Krishna. Even scientists like Einstein, famous neurologists like Charles Sherrington and poets like Wordsworth and Shelley and philosophers like Julian Huxley and Bertrand Russell are brought in by the author to give the readers an in-depth understanding of this great scripture. The author weaves every verse into the requirements of modern life and throws light on how man should lead his life while involved in his daily chores and fulfil his duties in accordance with the philosophy of action as taught by Sri Krishna. The book contains the Sanskrit slokas in Devanagari script, their English transliteration, simple meaning in English followed by explanation in English.

Book Synopsis Attitudes and Habits for a Successful Life by : Gene Brady
Download or read book Attitudes and Habits for a Successful Life written by Gene Brady and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006-09 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an inspirational, profound self-improvement, life-planning book designed primarily to help our youth. In fact, it may be the most helpful self-improvement, life-planning book ever written; the health regimen could make medical history and be extremely beneficial in increasing longevity even if started late in life. Much of the book is autobiographical. The wisdom that has taken the author a lifetime to learn is available to the reader just for the taking. The strategies discussed in the book work because I have either tested them successfully in my life or had observed their use in the lives of others. Ten strategies discussed in the book, in particular, can be helpful in ensuring a successful life for you. This is an important book. Its advice on preventive medicine, particularly in the area of diet, exercise, stress management, medical examinations and on developing beneficial attitudes and habits, if followed, could greatly improve the health and quality of life of the nation's citizens. It does seem that if the advice in Mr. Brady's book is followed by everyone, young and old alike, that individuals would be happier and more productive and society as a whole would be much better off. Every parent should read this book and have their son or daughter read it too.

Download or read book Imagined Orphans written by Lydia Murdoch and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In Imagined Orphans, Lydia Murdoch focuses on the discrepancy between the representation and the reality of children's experiences within welfare institutions - a discrepancy that she argues stems from conflicts over middle- and working-class notions of citizenship that arose in the 1870s and persisted until the First World War. Reformers' efforts to depict poor children as either orphaned or endangered by abusive or "no-good" parents fed upon the poor's increasing exclusion from the Victorian social body. Reformers used the public's growing distrust and pitiless attitude toward poor adults to increase charity and state aid to the children. With a critical eye to social issues of the period, Murdoch urges readers to reconsider the complex situations of families living in poverty."--BOOK JACKET.

Book Synopsis Humanity’s Children by : Sonja C. Grover
Download or read book Humanity’s Children written by Sonja C. Grover and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-13 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the phenomenon of children as the particular targets of extreme cruelty and genocide during armed conflict. Selected International Criminal Court cases are analyzed to illustrate the ICC‘s failure to address the genocidal forcible transfer of children to armed State and/or non-State groups or forces perpetrating mass atrocities and/or genocide. An original legal interpretation of children as a protected group in the context of the genocide provision of the Rome Statute is provided. The work also examines certain examples of the various modes in which armed State and/or non-State groups or forces perpetrating mass atrocities and/or genocide appropriate children and accomplish the genocidal forcible transfer of children to the perpetrator group. It is argued that the failure to prosecute the genocidal forcible transfer of children through the ICC mechanisms (where the Court has jurisdiction and the State has failed to meet its obligations in this regard) undermines the perceived gravity of this heinous international crime within the international community. Furthermore, this ICC failure to prosecute conflicts with the interests of justice and ultimately results in an erosion of the respect for the personhood and human dignity of children.
