This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Volume is based on the Lectures presented at the Meeting "Chemistry at the Beginning of the Third Millennium", wh ich was held in Pavia, Italy, during the period 7-10 October, 1999. The Meeting involved the participation of scientists from German and ltalian Universities of the 'Coimbra Group'. The 'Coimbra Group', wh ich was founded in 1987, gathers the most ancient and prestigious European Universities, with the aim to promote initiatives in both research and teaching and to provide guidelines for the progress and development of the University system. German and Italian Universities within the Coimbra Group propose every year a theme for scientific discussion, which originates a Meeting to be held in a German or Italian University. The Meeting in Pavia was the fifth of the series and followed those of Bologna (1995), Jena (1996), Siena (1997), Heidelberg (1998). Each Meeting is centred on a topic from either humanistic or natural sciences and consists in aseries of lectures presented by distinguished scientists from the six participanting Universities. For the Pavia Meeting, the Steering Committee chose Chemistry as the topic and gathered researchers with experience in almost all fields of chemistry. In particular, during the Meeting, lectures were presented on many up-to-date subjects of chemistry, including: materials science, superconductors, supramolecular chemistry, bioinorganic chemistry, fullerenes, liquid crystals, photoinduced electron transfer, etc. The different topics were covered by distinguished and renown researchers of the various fields.
Book Synopsis Receptor Chemistry Towards the Third Millennium by : M. Gianella
Download or read book Receptor Chemistry Towards the Third Millennium written by M. Gianella and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-05-31 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Receptor Chemistry Towards the Third Millennium is the result of papers presented at the 12th Camerino-Noordwijkerhout Symposium, held in Camerino, Italy in September 1999. Although much is known about the way ligands interact with receptors, which have now been isolated, characterized and cloned, many aspects still remain to be explored. In particular, differentiation into distinct subpopulations and the multiplicity of transduction processes offer more specific targets in the search for new drugs. This book will be of interest to medicinal chemists, pharmacologists, biochemists and neurologists and will also be a valuable source of reference for medical students and postgraduate students in related fields.

This book was released on 2020-03-06 with total page 451 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is indexed in Chemical Abstracts ServiceGreen Chemistry has evolved in response to several environmental issues in the second half of the last century, mostly due to the almost freely expanding chemical, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical industries. During the past two decades Green Chemistry grew rapidly and we can now consider this area as a mature and powerful field. Tremendous development has taken place in many important areas including renewable energy and resources, reaction environments, catalysis, synthesis, chemical biology, green polymers, and facile recycling. The combination of Green Chemistry with engineering, biology, toxicology, and physics will lead to novel interdisciplinary systems, which can now lift Green Chemistry to the next, advanced level. The editors have assembled authors among the best specialists of this growing area of research. This collection of reviews and perspectives provides an exciting vision of the more recent developments in Green Chemistry. The contents of this book illustrate the breath of the field and its role to address environmental issues. This volume will serve as a book of reference showing a panoramic view of the field and a preview of its future direction, as well as a book of inspiration for those aiming to further advance its frontiers. This volume emphasizes on the most recent developments in green catalysis, bio-sourced polymers and the study of continental organic matter for a better understanding of the carbon geochemical cycle.
Book Synopsis Supramolecular Chemistry in the 3rd Millennium by : Catherine E. Housecroft
Download or read book Supramolecular Chemistry in the 3rd Millennium written by Catherine E. Housecroft and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-08-18 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Special Issue is one of the first for the new MDPI flagship journal Chemistry (ISSN 2624-8549) which has a broad remit for publishing original research in all areas of chemistry. The theme of this issue is Supramolecular Chemistry in the 3rd Millennium and I am sure that this topic will attract many exciting contributions. We chose this topic because it encompasses the unity of contemporary pluridisciplinary science, in which organic, inorganic, physical and theoretical chemists work together with molecular biologists and physicists to develop a systems-level understanding of molecular interactions. The description of supramolecular chemistry as 'chemistry beyond the molecule' (Jean-Marie Lehn, Nobel Lecture and Gautam R. Desiraju, Nature, 2001, 412, 397) addresses the wide variety of weak, non-covalent interactions that are the basis for the assembly of supramolecular architectures, molecular receptors and molecular recognition, programed molecular systems, dynamic combinatorial libraries, coordination networks and functional supramolecular materials. We welcome submissions from all disciplines involved in this exciting and evolving area of science.

Book Synopsis Deterministic Kinetics in Chemistry and Systems Biology by : Gábor Lente
Download or read book Deterministic Kinetics in Chemistry and Systems Biology written by Gábor Lente and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-09 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a concise overview of the mathematical foundations of kinetics used in chemistry and systems biology. The analytical and numerical methods used to solve complex rate equations with the widely used deterministic approach will be described, with primary focus on practical aspects important in designing experimental studies and the evaluation of data. The introduction of personal computers transformed scientific attitudes in the last two decades considerably as computational power ceased to be a limiting factor. Despite this improvement, certain time-honored approximations in solving rate equations such as the pre-equilibrium or the steady-state approach are still valid and necessary as they concern the information content of measured kinetic traces. The book shows the role of these approximations in modern kinetics and will also describe some common misconceptions in this field.

Book Synopsis Human Chemistry (Volume Two) by : Libb Thims
Download or read book Human Chemistry (Volume Two) written by Libb Thims and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2007-09-01 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume two begins with Goethe's theories of affinities, i.e. the chemical reaction view of human life in 1809. This is followed by the history of how the thermodynamic (1876) and quantum (1905) revolutions modernized chemistry such that affinity (the 'force' of reaction) is now viewed as a function of thermodynamic 'free energy' (reaction spontaneity) and quantum 'valency' (bond stabilities). The composition, energetic state, dynamics, and evolution of the human chemical bond A?B is the centerpiece of this process. The human bond is what gives (yields) and takes (absorbs) energy in life. The coupling of this bond energy, driven by periodic inputs of solar photons, thus triggering activation energies and entropies, connected to the dynamical work of life, is what quantifies the human reaction process. This is followed by topics including mental crystallization, template theory, LGBT chemistry, chemical potential, Le Chatelier's principle, Muller dispersion forces, and human thermodynamics.
