Book excerpt: This volume makes available an international collection of plays, from Britain, the US, Germany, France and Russia, providing an essential and fascinating resource for anyone interested in the theatre culture of this period. Lovesick brings together six plays, each with individual introductions, including an author biography and a production history. The editor provides a contextual introduction to the volume offering valuable information about the ancestry of gay theatre and queer performance. The anthology reveals how 'sexual deviance' made its way into the drama of this time, and also how homosexual playwrights used comic or lyrical devices in order to celebrate a 'superior sensibility'.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have heard some ministers say that it is your belief that will send you to hell and not your sins, and this can be misleading. Because some of you might be deceived into thinking that you can keep sinning as long as you believe there is a God. Not only are some of you living your lives to reflect that kind of thinking, you are expressing it from your mouth. If one does not repent and remove from him his sins, he does not profit his soul any good thing. Remember, repenting is part of the process to become sanctified. All sins, big and small, shall be repented of and forgiven. And remember also, have you forgiven so that your sins can be forgiven you also? It all works together for your salvation to be intact. If you die with any of these sins still part of you, which you have not bothered to repent off, my Bible tells me that you cannot enter the kingdom of God. Think about this, if you really believe there is a God, and there is, you are going to come to a point where you are going to not want to sin before Him and get right with Him. You’re going to judge your own self, because your conscience is going to weigh you down. Don’t focus on the sugarcoated babblings of man and his weak human wisdom, but do focus on the precious bloodshed mercy of Jesus. Those sins that yield short-lived pleasure are only temporary and lead directly to the gates of hell, but your salvation leads directly to Jesus through eternity. Be on the safe side; just repent and get right with God. It is the only way! This book was written for personal enrichment and Christian training. It gives the reader clear, easy instructions and Scripture references for the reader to research. This book appeals to young people to make that change in their lives that Jesus is calling for. There is also a worksheet to help the reader interact with the book. If you would like to give me your thoughts about the book and whether it answered any of your concerns, send them at [email protected].

The recipes come from many sources but are mainly French and American. I have tried to stay away from recipes that have too many or hard to find ingredients or require too much to be done at the last minute. Recipes are often accompanied by stories, true or fictional. You do not have to be a cook to enjoy reading this book - only to enjoy the thought of a good meal and listening to a good story.I have always followed the rule that if one can not taste the recipe by reading it, it is better to discard it for one that tastes good in your head. I have spent some time in France as well as Washington, D.C., New York City and the Rangeley Lakes of Northwestern Maine and I come from a family of writers who loved to cook and tell stories

Book excerpt: It’s hard enough to have your mate die suddenly, but even harder to discover that he had a second life, which included a mistress, and that their estate was largely depleted because of his gifts to his paramour. Peg must put herself back together again and do it rapidly. With beautifully worded insights, Sheila Evans has created a multi-faceted character, one that you can root for, a woman who has been dangerously out-of-touch with herself but summons up, with courage, self-deprecation, and humor, the ability to reinvent herself.

Book excerpt: Tales of America, adultery, football, incest, love, paranoia, sadism and Zionism.... Wickedly funny these stories may be, but heartless they are not. Disturbing images abound; like the loving family that feasts upon living butterflies; and other images that connect the themes with places deeper than the mind. The narrators are an extraordinary group: a berserk psychiatrist, a giraffe, a man with an invisible creature on his back, a Jewish private eye, a communist with a bowel fixation, and various other disillusioned souls. None the less, each story is lucid, concisely written and has a strong sense of location. In The Promised Land a diaspora Jew travels to Israel determined to plant his seed, only to find himself excluded from his erotic paradise. In Le Docteur Enchaîné, a London psychiatrist decides that he can only find satisfaction with a dumb woman and takes the remedy into his own hands. In The Luftmensh, Joshua Smolinsky, trailing a missing writer to New Orleans, becomes involved with ghosts from American and Jewish history. In A Moment of Happiness a Czech hypochondriac manipulates two tourists into providing him with 'that single 1/60th of a second when I am not afraid'.... Clive Sinclair has created a wryly alluring world in which the neurotics, the outsiders, become the spokesmen best equipped to deal with the hardness at its core. Like the surprising artichoke in the title piece, his stories have hearts of gold. "I found Hearts of Gold quite wonderful ... And all this despite my immense dislike for football, cunts and national movements of any kind. So it had to be a very good book ... and it was." Sir Angus Wilson "Evil, entertaining little fictions... Clive Sinclair is fluent, inventive, linguistically gifted" Victoria Glendinning, Sunday Times "Extremely sexy, wry, likeable, tortured, these stories crackle with talent" Jacky Gillott, The Times "Fireworks of all kinds explode in Clive Sinclair's first collection of short stories .... Hearts of Gold is remarkable" John Mellors, Listener

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the 2017 revision and supersedes all previous volumes in this series. More than 1600 cultivars of Coleus blumei, Coleus rehneltianus, and the hybrid Coleus x hybridus have been named since the middle of the 19th century. The International Coleus Society took up the cataloging and registration of all these cultivars when we started in 2013 using the existing files of the New Ornamentals Society and our numerous expert members. This volume provides descriptions to more about 95% of the cultivars beginning with the letter A and ending in F and includes screen-wide high-resolution digital images of modern cultivars, color plates from old catalogs, and scans of other nursery listings back to 1851 and including some 2017 introductions. This 224 page volume is just the beginning in our never ending goal to understand the genus Coleus and document it's history in gardens. Hundreds of hours of study, pouring over old catalogs, literature, garden records, patents, cultivar release notifces, and the memories of modern Coleus experts went into this presentation. Only cultivars from A to F are included. Cultivars of G to Z will be offered as separate volumes in the future.

Book excerpt: In this definitive, three-volume set, top scholars illuminate the historical, social, cultural, political, administrative, psychological, and philosophical issues behind the standards debate. The nation's demand for more sophisticated knowledge workers who can easily access information using computers requires that they be able to interpret that information, judge and assess it, and give it meaning. In short, students must be taught how to think. Is education as it now exists in the United States a mere memorization and regurgitation of facts? If so, is this a pseudo-education? In this three volume encyclopedia, a 100 page introductory overview and 41 essays by top scholars present a new vision of education—and educational rigor—in a variety of classroom contexts and subject areas. Essays cover the most important issues in education today: the purpose of education, regulating teachers, school accreditation, testing, nontraditional schools, bilingual education, justice and education, the politics of education, learning theory and cognition, and opposition to standards and more. The encyclopedia also includes a historical timeline of educational reform and an annotated bibliography.
