Book Synopsis Handbook of Physical Testing of Paper by : Richard E. Mark
Download or read book Handbook of Physical Testing of Paper written by Richard E. Mark and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 1062 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientists from academic and the paper industry compile as many aspects of testing properties of paper as possible into a broad reference to help people who plan, specify, and evaluate the physical and mechanical testing of paper material take advantage of the many developments in recent years. An initial essay in each volume discusses the independent invention and widespread use of paper in Mesoamerica beginning sometime before AD 660. The two volumes are paged and indexed separately, but do not seem to be topically distinct. The first edition, Handbook of Physical and Mechanical Testing of Paper and Paperboard appeared in 1983; the second contains 30 chapters, a third of which are new and the others substantially revised, updated, and expanded. c. Download or read book Concise Encyclopedia of the Structure of Materials written by J. W. Martin and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-10-30 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Concise Encyclopedia draws its material from the award-winning Encyclopedia of Materials: Science and Technology, and includes updates and revisions not available in the original set. This customized collection of articles provides a handy reference for materials scientists and engineers with an interest in the structure of metals, polymers, ceramics and glasses, biomaterials, wood, paper, and liquid crystals.Materials science and engineering is concerned with the relationship between the properties and structure of materials. In this context "structure" may be defined on the atomic scale in the case of crystalline materials, on the molecular scale (in the case of polymers, for example), or on the microscopic scale. Each of these definitions has been applied in making the present selection of articles.* Brings together articles from the Encyclopedia of Materials: Science & Technology that focus on the structure of materials at the atomic, molecular and microscopic levels, plus recent updates* Every article has been commissioned and written by an internationally recognized expert and provides a concise overview of a particular aspect of the field * Extensive bibliographies, cross-referencing and indexes guide the user to the most relevant reading in the primary literature

Book Synopsis Morphology of Wood Pulp Fiber from Softwoods and Influence on Paper Strength by : Richard A. Horn
Download or read book Morphology of Wood Pulp Fiber from Softwoods and Influence on Paper Strength written by Richard A. Horn and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To achieve full utilization of each harvested tree, interest centers on use of all of the tree components. The objective of the study is to determine the influence of the morphological characteristics of pulp fiber from 12 western U.S. softwood species, representative of a wide range of fiber. The effect of the morphology of the wood pulp fiber as distinguished from that of the wood fiber is emphasized because differences in performance of fiber-based products are traced to the pulp fiber. Interrelationships of fiber morphology and pulp sheet properties are discussed. The results indicate that it is not possible to fully characterize the performance of a pulp by a single morphological characteristic and that the morphological characteristics significantly influence strength properties of sheets.

Download or read book Fundamentals of Nanoparticles written by Abdel Salam Hamdy Makhlouf and published by William Andrew. This book was released on 2018-08-09 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Nanoparticles: Classifications, Synthesis Methods, Properties and Characterization explores the nanoparticles and architecture of nanostructured materials being used today in a comprehensive, detailed manner. This book focuses primarily on the characterization, properties and synthesis of nanoscale materials, and is divided into three major parts. This is a valuable reference for materials scientists, and chemical and mechanical engineers working in R&D and academia, who want to learn more about how nanoparticles and nanomaterials are characterized and engineered. Part one covers nanoparticles formation, self-assembly in the architecture nanostructures, types and classifications of nanoparticles, and signature physical and chemical properties, toxicity and regulations. Part two presents different ways to form nanometer particles, including bottom-up and top-down approaches, the classical and non-classical theories of nanoparticles formation and self-assembly, surface functionalization and other surface treatments to allow practical use. Part three covers characterization of nanoparticles and nanostructured materials, including the determination of size and shape, in addition to atomic and electronic structures and other important properties. - Includes new physical and chemical techniques for the synthesis of nanoparticles and architecture nanostructures - Features an in-depth treatment of nanoparticles and nanostructures, including their characterization and chemical and physical properties - Explores the unusual properties of materials that are developed by modifying their shape and composition and by manipulating the arrangement of atoms and molecules - Explains important techniques for the synthesis, fabrication and the characterization of complex nano-architectures
