Different to other books on the topic, it addresses the challenges and opportunities facing the different risk management types in banks, insurance companies, and the corporate sector. Due to the rising volatility in the financial markets as well as political and operational risks affecting the business sector in general, capital adequacy rules are equally important for non-financial companies. Book Synopsis Affordable housing in India opportunities and challenges for developers by : Rajat Singh
Download or read book Affordable housing in India opportunities and challenges for developers written by Rajat Singh and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2019-09-30 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academic Paper from the year 2019 in the subject Sociology - Habitation, Urban Sociology, grade: 1, , course: Urban planning, language: English, abstract: This paper focuses mostly on the developer’s side because affordable housing is not possible by the government alone and government is not giving any special type of benefits towards the developer which is making them to loss interest in this segment. The Millions of Indians want to have roof over their heads, yet at the same time hundredth and thousands of housing units remain unutilized throughout the country, the reason is simple, the developers are investing in mid and premium segments but are increasing the material and labor costs while financing the segments, making affordable housing segments unaffordable. The Perceptional risk at keeping buyers away are approached from two angles, the First one, looks at the need of organized players such as Tata housing and Mahindra life who brought innovation and assembly line approach to this sector. Demands are simple and have a single-window of simplified approval process that includes Digitalized land record to make developing land easier. Also to enable mass housing within the city along with simplified taxation on affordable homes schemes and taxation like- Vat, the service tax, stamp duty, registration, if handled by the government then the mass affordable housing has the potential of reducing the cost of ownership by 15 – 20%. The Other method to simplify Mass Affordable housing is to make the smaller developer understand the value of the land that is critical to crack the market. Organizations like “Brickeagle” are helping developers to achieve that. It is important because bank did not want to educate the developer to buy the land parcel. And private company did not see affordable housing as a worthy bet.

Book Synopsis Review of the Department of Homeland Security's Approach to Risk Analysis by : National Research Council
Download or read book Review of the Department of Homeland Security's Approach to Risk Analysis written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2010-10-10 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The events of September 11, 2001 changed perceptions, rearranged national priorities, and produced significant new government entities, including the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) created in 2003. While the principal mission of DHS is to lead efforts to secure the nation against those forces that wish to do harm, the department also has responsibilities in regard to preparation for and response to other hazards and disasters, such as floods, earthquakes, and other "natural" disasters. Whether in the context of preparedness, response or recovery from terrorism, illegal entry to the country, or natural disasters, DHS is committed to processes and methods that feature risk assessment as a critical component for making better-informed decisions. Review of the Department of Homeland Security's Approach to Risk Analysis explores how DHS is building its capabilities in risk analysis to inform decision making. The department uses risk analysis to inform decisions ranging from high-level policy choices to fine-scale protocols that guide the minute-by-minute actions of DHS employees. Although DHS is responsible for mitigating a range of threats, natural disasters, and pandemics, its risk analysis efforts are weighted heavily toward terrorism. In addition to assessing the capability of DHS risk analysis methods to support decision-making, the book evaluates the quality of the current approach to estimating risk and discusses how to improve current risk analysis procedures. Review of the Department of Homeland Security's Approach to Risk Analysis recommends that DHS continue to build its integrated risk management framework. It also suggests that the department improve the way models are developed and used and follow time-tested scientific practices, among other recommendations.

While these uncertain times are difficult, they also provide the opportunity for great leadership. Over three decades of research, Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, the bestselling authors of The Leadership Challenge, have asked thousands of leaders to describe their personal leadership best. Across the board, people say their greatest moments arise out of the most difficult periods of their careers. Turning Adversity Into Opportunity reveals how leaders at any level can transform difficult circumstances into opportunities for growth and success. Kouzes and Posner offer a clear set of six actionable strategies, showing how extraordinary leaders navigate through uncertainty, hardship, disruption, transformation, transition, recovery, new beginnings, and other significant challenges. Exemplary leadership disrupts the status quo, and Kouzes and Posner show how to awaken and pursue new possibilities and opportunities, no matter what the circumstances. Wherever you find yourself in your organization or community, Turning Adversity Into Opportunity will help you embrace the chance within any challenge to make a real difference.
Book Synopsis Sustainable Innovation by : Andrew Hargadon
Download or read book Sustainable Innovation written by Andrew Hargadon and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If we can carry in our pockets more computing power than the Apollo program needed to put a man on the moon, why can't we solve problems like climate change, famine, or poverty? The answer lies, in part, in the distinctive challenges of creating innovations that address today's pressing environmental and social problems. In this groundbreaking book, Andrew Hargadon shows why sustainable innovation—the development of financially viable products that support a healthy environment and communities—is so difficult when compared to creating the next internet ventures or mobile apps that disregard these criteria. While other books treat innovation across sectors equally, Hargadon argues that most effective innovation strategies hinge on attention to the context in which they are pursued. Instead of relying on a stale set of "best practices," executives must craft their own strategies based on the particulars of their industries and markets. But, there are some rules of the road that foster a triple bottom line; this book provides a research-based framework that outlines the critical capabilities necessary to drive sustainable innovation: a long-term commitment, nexus work, science and policy expertise, recombinant innovation, and robust design. Sustainable Innovation draws on a wide range of historical and contemporary examples to show business readers and their companies how to stand on the shoulders of successful pioneers.
