This book was released on 2015 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The treatment of Class II malocclusions has long been a difficult and challenging task for orthodontists. It has been estimated that roughly one-third to one-half of clinical orthodontic practices consist of Class II malocclusions due to a dental discrepancy and/or a skeletal discrepancy between the maxilla and mandible. Thus, accurate diagnosis and treatment planning are of vital importance to practicing orthodontists. The purpose of this longitudinal study was to evaluate the reliability and validity of the Frankfort Mandibular Plane Angle Bisector (FMAB) reference plane in the assessment of anteroposterior discrepancies in a sample of Class II Division 1 individuals. Comparisons were made between the FMAB, ANB angle, and maxillo-mandibular Bisector (MMB) in both treated and control samples of Class II Division 1 patients. The data was collected from pre-treatment (T0), immediate post-treatment (T1) and two year post-retention (T2) lateral cephalograms of 40 female and 36 male Class II Division 1 subjects. Patients were treated non-extraction with fixed orthodontic appliances in conjunction with cervical or straight pull headgears and Class II elastics. Cephalometric data were compared to an untreated control group of 15 female and 15 male Class II Division 1 subjects. The data was evaluated using independent samples t-tests and ANOVA statistical tests to determine statistical differences between groups (p 0.05). The FMAB was determined to be a highly reproducible reference plane which mimics the ANB angle in the changes seen with growth and treatment. The FMAB-Wits had a mildly higher correlation with the ANB angle than the MMB-Wits. A good correlation (r 0.80) was found between the FMAB-Wits and MMB-Wits appraisal measurements in both the control and treatment groups for all time periods, indicating that the use of either of these measures may be indicated in cephalometric analysis.

This book was released on 2016 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction: Class II Division 1 malocclusions are characterized by a retrusive mandible and prominent upper incisors. Despite Class II malocclusions being one of the most frequently treated cases in orthodontists' office, there is no uniform consensus in the orthodontic community on the best treatment modality and biomechanical approach to use in treating patients with Class II malocclusions. Purpose: This paper examines the end-of-treatment outcomes of severe Class II Division I malocclusion patients treated with surgical versus non-surgical approaches. Study Design: This is a retrospective study of consecutively treated severe Class II Division I patients at the University of Iowa. Initial and deband lateral cephalometric radiographs were compared between 45 non-surgical and 21 surgical patients. All patients that were debanded between the ages of 13 to 19 years were included. Multivariable regression analyses were used to examine differences in outcomes between treatment groups. Results: Following adjustment for patient level confounders (age, gender, and race), those treated surgically had better end of treatment cephalometric outcomes. Those treated surgically had a more balanced skeletal profile, greater reduction in overjet, and improvement in ANB angle (p

Book Synopsis Twin Block Functional Therapy by : William Clark
Download or read book Twin Block Functional Therapy written by William Clark and published by JP Medical Ltd. This book was released on 2014-09-30 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Twin Block appliances are simple bite blocks that are designed for full-time wear. They achieve rapid functional correction of malocclusion (misalignment of upper and lower teeth) by the transmission of favourable occlusal forces to occlusal inclined planes that cover the posterior teeth. The forces of occlusion are used as the functional mechanism to correct the malocclusion (www.twinblocks.com). Beginning with an introduction to orthodontics and twin blocks, the next chapters describe growth studies and diagnosis and treatment planning. Each of the following sections discusses the use of twin blocks for different types of malocclusion. With a focus on the latest developments in functional therapy, the book offers guidance on diagnosis, treatment planning, case selection, appliance design and clinical management. Written by the internationally recognised Orthodontist William Clark from Fife, UK, who also invented Twin Blocks, this comprehensive guide includes nearly 600 clinical photographs and illustrations.
