Book Synopsis Taxation of Foreign Business Income Within the European Internal Market by : Jérôme Monsenego
Download or read book Taxation of Foreign Business Income Within the European Internal Market written by Jérôme Monsenego and published by IBFD. This book was released on 2012 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rules of the Member States on the taxation of the foreign business income of companies, whether such rules are based on the fiscal principle of territoriality or on the principle of worldwide taxation, are in conflict with the objective of achievement of the internal market. This objective is indeed difficult to reach when it comes to the taxation of foreign income, given that the Member States are far from taxing companies doing business cross-border as if their operations were purely domestic. Areas of conflict include particularly the taxation of foreign profits, the deduction of foreign losses, the elimination of international double taxation and the attribution of profits to permanent establishments. This dissertation analyses this conflict on the basis of a study of the case law of the European Court of Justice as well as some of the key provisions of the European treaties. It appears that both the fiscal principle of territoriality and the principle of worldwide taxation give rise to complex issues of compatibility with the law of the European Union. Although the analysis conducted throughout the dissertation provides some guidance for the taxation of the foreign business income of companies, it is concluded that the Court cannot, by itself, efficiently resolve the conflict between such taxation and the objective of achievement of the internal market.
Download or read book Exiled for Love written by Arsham Parsi and published by Fernwood Publishing. This book was released on 2015-05-01T00:00:00Z with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To be gay in Iran means to live in the shadow of death. The country’s harsh Islamic code of Lavat is used to execute gay men, and LGBT individuals who avoid execution are often subjected to severe lashings, torture and imprisonment. It was in this unforgiving environment that Arsham Parsi came to terms with his identity as a gay man. When a close friend committed suicide after his family learned he was gay, Arsham felt compelled to act. Risking his life as well as the safety of his family, he used the anonymity of the Internet to speak out about the human rights abuses against LGBT people in his country. In 2005 Parsi learned that an order had been issued for his arrest and execution. He was forced to seek refuge in neighbouring Turkey until, thirteen months later, he was granted asylum in Canada. Exiled for Love follows Parsi’s incredible journey from his first understanding of his sexual orientation to his eventual exile. It explores the reality for LGBT people in Iran through the deeply personal and inspiring story of his life, escape and continuing work.

Download or read book Gratitude written by Dannielle Miller and published by . This book was released on 2015-02-01 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you ever give in and buy your kids stuff they've been nagging you for... only to find that they're still not satisfied? Do you sometimes worry that children are growing up in a narcissistic and materialistic world? Do you want to teach your children how they can focus more on what they are thankful for, and less on the negatives in their lives? Children are not always very good at saying thank you or feeling grateful. That is because none of us is born understanding gratitude - we have to learn and develop it. The good news? There is actually a lot we can do to help nurture thankfulness in our children, and Gratitude is packed with practical, common-sense tips and hints that have been shown to work. It offers a positive new approach to nurturing thankfulness in children by making gratitude an everyday habit of family life. Instilling gratitude in our children is about so much more than politeness. Gratitude is linked to greater happiness, a more positive outlook on life, stronger social bonds and support networks, and higher achievement. This book shows how fostering gratitude in our children helps them develop the skills they need for fulfilling and successful futures - in their studies, personal lives, and careers. "Thanks, Danni, for being such a positive champion and guide for parents and teachers to help them build gratitude and thoughtfulness in our children so that we can create a more caring and compassionate world for all." - Maggie Dent, parenting and resilience educator, and author "A must-have for every parent's bookshelf." - Rebecca Sparrow, columnist, author, and speaker
