Book Synopsis Ceci N'est Pas Une Copie by : Chris Meplon
Download or read book Ceci N'est Pas Une Copie written by Chris Meplon and published by Racine Lannoo. This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Copying is bad. So we are told, from school to the workplace. Gaining money or honour by stealing someone else's work is morally despicable and forbidden by law. But is it really that simple? Sometimes a copy - or something that strongly resembles the original - can bring fresh new insights about the original. The line between innovation and imitation is not always clear, and as technology allows us to come closer to the art of perfect imitation, things such as originality and individual authorship are placed under pressure. In Ceci n'est pas Une Copie design journalist Chris Meplon looks for the nature, meaning and perception of copying techniques in design practice. The book offers a wide selection of interesting examples and perspectives on 'copying', making for a reader-experience that is both informative and open-ended, allowing you to make up your own mind. Text in English and French. AUTHOR: Chris Meplon is a design expert and journalist. SELLING POINTS: * Includes contributions and works from 70 renowned designers and artists such as Jasper Morrison, Richard Hutten, Philippe Starck, Konstantin Grcic, Maarten Baas, Unfold, and many more * Pays attention to cultural differences between east and west, and how opinions have changed throughout history * Provides an holistic study of copying-culture, from accepted copying (quotes, collage and homage) to more controversial and experimental forms of 're-design' 180 colour, 20 b/w

Download or read book Les voies de la transmission du Kitāb de Sībawayhi written by Geneviève Humbert and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2017-11-13 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kitāb of Sībawayhi, compiled in the 8th century, is the oldest existant Arabic grammar. It has gone through many editions, but all are based on a copy from the 18th century. The author of this important book has discovered 11 manuscripts in addition to the 66 mentioned by F. Sezgin (GAS, IX). More than 40 were used in this book to contribute to a new understanding of the history of the text. She has now definitively shown that all of the recensions, oriental and occidental, follow closely the—now lost—copy of al-Mubarrad (d. 9th century), which functioned as a true vulgate. Only one manuscript, found in Milan, managed to escape its influence, and adhered to the rival Kufan grammatical tradition. This manuscript provides a better version of the text and makes a new reading of the Kitāb possible

Book Synopsis 'James Joyce and Paul L. Léon: The Story of a Friendship' Revisited by : Alexis Léon
Download or read book 'James Joyce and Paul L. Léon: The Story of a Friendship' Revisited written by Alexis Léon and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2022-10-20 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: James Joyce spent the last decade of his life in Paris, struggling to finish his great final work Finnegans Wake amidst personal and financial hardship and just as Europe was being engulfed by the rising tide of fascism. Bringing together new archival discoveries and personal accounts, this book explores one of the central relationships of his final years: that with his friend, confidant and adviser Paul L. Léon. Providing first-hand accounts of Joyce's Paris circle – which included Samuel Beckett and Vladimir Nabokov – the book makes available again the text of Lucie (Léon) Noel's personal memoir of the relationship between her husband and the Irish writer (published as James Joyce and Paul L. Léon: The Story of Friendship in 1950), including his valiant rescue of Joyce's Paris archives from occupying Nazi forces. The book also collects for the first time Leon's clandestine letters to his wife from August to December 1941, chronicling his desperate state of body and mind while interned in Drancy, France's main Nazi transit camp, and then in Compiègne, just before he was deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Joyce died suddenly on 13 January 1941 in Zurich and Léon was murdered by the Nazis on 4 April 1942 in Silesia. Annotated throughout with contextual commentary by Luca Crispi and Mary Gallagher, this is an essential resource for scholars of James Joyce and of the literary culture of Paris in the 1930s and first years of World War II in France.
