Book Synopsis Crown Ethers and Phase Transfer Catalysis in Polymer Science by : Lon Mathias

This book was released on 2013-11-22 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phase transfer catalysis or interfacial catalysis is a syn thetic technique involving transport of an organic or inorganic salt from a solid or aqueous phase into an organic liquid where reaction with an organic-soluble substrate takes place. Over the past 15 years there has been an enormous amount of effort invested in the development of this technique in organic synthe sis. Several books and numerous review articles have appeared summarizing applications in which low molecular weight catalysts are employed. These generally include either crown ethers or onium salts of various kinds. While the term phase transfer catalysis is relatively new, the concept of using a phasetrans fer agent (PTA) is much older~ Both Schnell and Morgan employed such catalysts in synthesis of polymeric species in the early 1950's. Present developments are really extensions of these early applications. It has only been within the last several years that the use of phase transfer processes have been employed in polymer synthesis and modification. Similarly, the use of polymer-bound phase transfer agents is also a recent development. These and related areas have nonetheless enjoyed explosive growth as mea sured by the number of publications and the variety of applica tions which have appeared. Several reviews dealing with these l 6 polymer-related investigations have been published.
Book Synopsis Ions and Ion Pairs and Their Role in Chemical Reactions by : J. Smid
Download or read book Ions and Ion Pairs and Their Role in Chemical Reactions written by J. Smid and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ions and Ion Pairs and their Role in Chemical Reactions covers a wide spectrum of ion pairing phenomena. This book focuses on the structure, dynamics, and energetics of ions and ion pairs and their complexes with solvent molecules and ion coordinating ligands in the solid, liquid, and gaseous state. Organized into 12 chapters, this book begins with an overview of the theory and complications involved in dipole moment measurements in slightly conductive polar solvents. This text then explores the measurement of gas phase ion-molecule equilibria by special spectrometric methods. Other chapters consider the NMR experiments on potassium biphenyl, sodium biphenyl, and rubidium biphenyl, dissolved in different solvents. This book discusses as well the ion pair formation of some cyclic conjugated carbanions and nitranions. The final chapter deals with the information obtained from relaxation measurements on processes such as ionic dissociation, aggregation, and solvent separation. This book is a valuable resource for chemists, organic chemists, and quantum chemists.

Download or read book Handbook of Polymer Synthesis written by Hans R. Kricheldorf and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-12-23 with total page 830 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compact but comprehensive review of the most important preparative methods for the synthesis and chemical modification of polymers. The contents of the two-volume handbook (Part A was cited in the May 1992 SciTech Book News) are subdivided according to the chemical structure of the polymer backbone on the one hand (Chapters 1-14 of Part A and 15-18 of Part B) and special properties and applications of polymers regardless of their chemical structure on the other hand (Chapters 19-27 of Part B). The latter chapters deal with, for instance, electroconductive polymers, polymeric reagents, and models of bio-polymers. Includes some 11,000 references to the original literature. Book Synopsis Polymerization of Heterocycles (Ring Opening) by : S. Penczek
Download or read book Polymerization of Heterocycles (Ring Opening) written by S. Penczek and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-02-03 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polymerization of Heterocycles (Ring Opening) is a collection of papers presented at the International Symposium on Polymerization of Heterocycles (Ring-Opening) held in Warsaw, Poland on June 23-25, 1975. The first paper describes the developments and physical meaning of ion pairs and higher ionic aggregates. Another paper explains the process of obtaining linear polymers, containing rings in the main chain. The book interprets the various behaviors of polymers that can result in high optical yields of stereoelectivity ratios equal to 8. The text then discusses future trends in aldehyde and carbonyl polymerization, including some problem areas pertaining to failures to homopolymerize or copolymerize tetrachloroethylene oxide. Another paper reviews the elemental reactions of selected combinations of copolymerization; the next paper discuses aspects of the mechanism of nucleophilic opening of epoxide rings through studies of certain kinetics. The book then analyzes the ability of lactams to undergo ring-opening polymerization, which mainly depends on the ring size and on the substitution and presence of heteroatoms in the lactam ring itself. The text also discusses the preparation, properties, and applications of the heterochain polymers in medicine or biologically active materials. The book can provide useful information for biochemists, researchers dealing with inorganic and organic compounds, and scientists working in the fields of chemistry such as synthetic chemistry, as well as polymer engineering.
